"A gem of a hotel"
We stayed for two nights at the end of February. We had been told in advance that there were some building works going on nearby but thankfully they weren't too disruptive. The hotel is old and traditional but the rooms are fantastically modern. We were lucky and got a free upgrade to a luxury room which was great. A fabulous extremely large comfortable bed, a massive bathroom and a large balcony overlooking the pool. The hotel is well located close to restaurants and shops. They also have valet parking which is included and great as parking on the street is difficult. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good with buffet and menu choices. The pool was a good size but very cold! More plunge pool then swimming pool. We would definitely recommend it as a place to stay
Disappointed with this hotel having seen the reviews. The location is great and very central so you can get around easily on foot. Room and rest of hotel looked as per the website. Service was where it was let down. Breakfast was average and had to ask 3 times for coffee, my husbands tea didn't arrive until we asked for a 4th time. Waiting staff unfriendly. Room service for a drink from the bar 2 minutes from our room took far too long, my husband went to collect them himself after chasing for the 3rd time. Turn down service was either at 6.00 pm or not at all, a ridiculous time as most people are preparing for their evening out. WE told the maid we were not ready and asked her to come back later. Got back to room to no turn down, this resulted in no water being replenished for the night and having to use damp towels for showers in the morning. Reception staff always busy and disinterested in helping with restuarants. Lots of other central hotels to choose from, so wont return.
"charming hotel in great location"
4 star hotel we really enjoyed the stay. The hotel is in a superb location and Stellenbosch is a very nice place everything on the doorstep lots of restaurants etc. The beds and bedding were extremely comfortable and a very nice quality bedding, breakfast and service were really good, I would recommend it to anyone . The only small criticism was that we had a room that was not serviced by the lift as it's an old property that's been converted but the staff helped with all our cases up to them so it wasn't really a problem
Staff were good. Great location. We were in a very old room at the front of the hotel it was in need of a good deep clean. The rooms around a very small pool looked more modern and clean. The maid knock on our room at 8.30 on departure day when we were still in bed to clean the room !!!!!
"Magnificent welcome for brief coffee refreshment"
My wife and I had an hour to 'kill' in Stellenbosch while waiting for our return shuttle to out of town hotel so we entered hotel foyer to request a coffee. We were greeted by pleasant and helpful concierge who escorted us to lounge and arranged our refreshment. On explaining that we were returning to U.K. the following day, he told us about the history of the hotel, gave us a 4 page leaflet and took us on a brief tour of the hotel ground floor and the remains of the original church building. We were delighted by his attention, loved the look and feel of this place and will definitely book to stay here should we return to Stellenbosch again. An excellent 'promotional' response to an elderly couple in need!
