Cairns is een ideaal begin- of eindpunt van uw rondreis Australië. Er heerst hier een gezellige atmosfeer. Langs de boulevard zijn er namelijk verschillende bars en restaurants te vinden, en ook aan winkels is geen gebrek.
"Sadly Sub Standard"
This Resort has been around for many years, it has such potential even though it is far from all that Cairns offers. for some that may be a plus, for others not so much...The property is vast and is very rundown, it needs a lot of work to bring it back to its former glory. We arrived to find two coach loads of what I would call contract workers lining up for rooms, we joined the line and after waiting quite a substantial amount of time we finally were at the reception counter. The staff were more than nice considering the pressure they were under as yet another bus load arrived. Check in was swift and cordial, our room however was at the back of beyond, a dark walk way along shabby buildings. The room was well, just plain tired and worn., bed linens were clean, towels clean, the room overall was clean but well worn as was the mattress on the bed. The bathroom vanity was held against the wall with plastic tape and was badly water damaged. I realise these are all negatives, and I hate to dwell in negativity, but maybe the current owners will wake up and realise what a gem they really have. Parking is free and no issues, although all outdoors. The pool area looks quite wonderful, once again a bit tired. we did not eat in the Restaurant, the hotel was busy obviously and the rates super low, for us it was just an overnight before an early flight. We would not stay again...sorry.
"Extended motel like rooms surround shallow pools and beautiful plants"
We arrived from an early flight from Sydney and were pleased that allowed us opportunity to change and use the pool facilities while rooms were being cleaned. The resort was primarily occupied by Chinese tourists that came and went in large groups. Staff was pleasant. Restaurant was average. We went to Cairns beach area to eat. Pay attention to shuttle schedule ($) to make sure it matches your plans.
My partner and I needed a last minute night away and the colonial club was the best price, especially since we booked direct. They have free parking, wifi, pools and a restaurant on site. We had dinner at the restaurant, there weren’t many people there but the food was good. I had the seafood linguine and my partner had a steak and chips. The steak was cooked really well and my linguine had a decent amount of seafood and good flavour. The desert and salad bar are a little different but there were a few good items e.g. the potato salad and the chocolate brownie pieces. The only thing that let it down was how tired everything is looking. The room was fine, but the mattress needs replacing - lots of springs popping everywhere. However the air con was awesome and the tv was a good size and placed in a good spot in the room. Would probably stay again and recommend.
Our flight back home was cancelled so Tiger air put us for a night into this place. As soon as we entered the room the worst smell in the world hit us so hard that the next second we were standing in front of the door thinking that this must have been a joke!! There were leaves on the carpet which was mouldy, stained and dirty as well. Furniture looked very tired. Walls were full of patches, dirty as well. It was interesting to see the shoeprint on the ceiling. Towels were fresh and clean, however, having a shower was an adventure. Water is splashing everywhere and the pressure in the pipe wasn't strong enough. Tap was leaking through the night so we had to use towel to minimise the noise. The worst thing was sleeping in the bed. Through the whole night something was crawling over me. We saw some spiders and webs in the bedroom, but I am still not sure which animal exactly was keeping me awake. I read that this hotel is going through some renovations. That seems awkward because I haven't seen any workers around the site (it was in the middle of the week) nor did I hear any hammer or impact tool noise. This could be really amazing place to stay in if they start with some serious work immediately. Putting people into such rooms we were in will get them even more bad reviews.
"Great landscape and pools"
The first time I stayed at CCC, was with my daughter when she was about 7. We went to Cairns to see the New Years Eve celebrations and fire works. When it came time to go, she wanted to stay in the pools at the resort, rather than seeing the fireworks. (And she loves fireworks!) This time, I went with my partner, and we had a wonderful time. The staff were very attentive, the room and facilities were great, and we did make use of the pool with a private entrance from our accommodation. My partner and I went for a swim after dinner, and in the morning I went for a swim while he was still asleep. We were both impressed with the grounds and the tropical, relaxed setting.
