Cairns is een ideaal begin- of eindpunt van uw rondreis Australië. Er heerst hier een gezellige atmosfeer. Langs de boulevard zijn er namelijk verschillende bars en restaurants te vinden, en ook aan winkels is geen gebrek.

"Beautiful place, lovely resort & friendly staff."

My partner and I just spent a few days there, it was such a great taste of paradise. The beautiful beach, great views and a very nice resort with a swim up bar! Felt very welcomed by the resort staff and they filled us in with activities to do while we were on the island. We didn't book a sea view room but we didn't spend much time in our room so didn't bother us. Our room definetly had a wow factor upon arrival. Nice modern rooms however the cleanliness was quite poor. The bed wasn't really comfy and the bar fridge had a very foul spell. Besides all that, we certainly enjoyed our stay! Definetly recommend it and we will be back...

Firstly, Fitzroy island is beautiful. Put it on your list of places to see... but avoid a stay at the resort. Booking 2 nights as part of our anniversary getaway, we were excited to spend a few days revisiting island life. The resort looks appealing, but was terribly disappointing. Our room (studio) was a small, dank box. The mouldy smell meant we avoided time in our room and made it uncomfortable when inside. When I enquired upon check in I was told this was the room type we had paid for and were offered to upgrade at an extra $150 per night. The phone in room was non functional and when explaining we had left the hotel number with family in case of emergency (no mobile reception in rooms), we were told they would take a message and maintenance would replace it the next day, which not surprisingly, didn't happen. We were told luggage restrictions applies on ferry so supplies must be minimal. With no mini bar, vending machines or all day menu,, the only access to supplies closes at 430 daily. Be prepared for little option at inflated prices. The resort staff in general are less than attentive with many avoiding people rather than acknowledging them. Food at the bar can be hit and miss but offers a decent variety of pub style food on the menu. As a place all about the enjoying the water time in the resort was slim, it however meant what we were happy to be leaving such a beautiful island rather than wishing we could stay.

"My Eden "

The perfect Island resort getaway. Climate is sensational. 30 degrees most days with cooling sea breezes. Accommodation in the resort was excellent. Great bedding for a comfortable nights sleep. Self contained apartments were roomy if you want to spend time recouping from day and evening activities. 2 good walks. Nudey beach (Nudey by name only) is a easy 2o minute walk. Some climbing involved. Nudey beach was rated as Number 2 in the top 100 beaches in Australia and it was easy to see why. Chrystal clear waters, solitude and great views. The walk to the lighthouse is challenging. 1100 meters above sea level. Best to start early in the morning and take water. But the views st the top are well worth the climb. Foxy's bar and grill is the place to be in the afternoon and evenings. Good food and a selection of drinks. All tables have views to the bay. Lots of things to do. Snorkelling, paddle boarding, reef viewing, trips to the Great Barrier Reef or just relaxing on the beach or the pool/pool bar. Only a 45 minute ferry ride following the Cairns coastline.

"Beautiful Island!"

I booked a last minute 3 night stay on Fitzroy Island and I'm so glad I did! As the ferry approaches the jetty, you can already see coral and Sea life through the crystal clear waters! The snorkelling around the Island is great (you can walk in straight off the beach, or do a glass bottom boat tour), and I saw reef sharks, turtles and plenty of relatively healthy coral. You can hire reasonable equipment from the dive shop, although you have to check the fit and state of repair yourself (I had to take one leaking mask back, only to be told "Oh yeah, I think that one does leak"!!) I took a day trip to the reef which was a great day out, but very busy with a lot of people jostling to get in the water. You are only allowed to snorkel within a roped off area which was a bit disappointing, but also understandable to try to protect the reef. I'm very glad I stayed mid week as by Saturday the relaxed Island feel changed a lot, and the beaches were filled by lots of loud daytime drinkers! There's plenty to do on the Island; from hiking, snorkelling, taking a day trip to the reef, scuba diving, or you can just relax by the pool (which includes a swim up bar open from midday onward) or enjoy a cocktail at Foxys Bar and watch the sunset. The food choices were lacking however, and are either very expensive at the restaurant or 'pub grub' style at Foxys Bar. The only two breakfast choices are cooked or continental from the restaurant, and both were pretty underwhelming and overpriced. I stayed in one of the studio rooms which was exceptionally clean, but quite dark and with no view (the only window was on the entrance side where people can see into the room as they walk past if the curtains aren't closed). The room was serviced daily and the bed was very comfortable. The staff definitely make up for the slight tiredness of the resort, and were exceptionally friendly and warm. I'd definitely recommend Fitzroy Island for anyone from solo travellers like myself, to families. The resort itself is a little tired and could do with a little TLC, but you will be well taken care of by the fantastic staff and you definitely won't be disappointed with the beauty of the nature!

Very old dirty and out of date resort. Rooms are smelly and we had lots of bugs in room coming from the bathroom. Our phone in our room didn't even work when we tried to call the reception desk. The whole resort needs to be updated. The food options are average and costly. Of course you pay to snorkel and pay more for a stinger suit for two people to hire snorkel gear for one day was $50 absolutely absurd. We were suppose to be heading back to cairns on the 5pm fairy but we changed it to the 9.30am one to get out of there sooner. Very disappointing. The island itself is beautiful but with such crap and gross accommodation it isn't worth going too. I would never return or recommend going. The beach is full of coral and rocks so it's not at all white sandy beaches. Better to do a day trip on a boat and get to do the snorkeling but not stay in the filthy accommodation.
