"Great Family Holiday"

We stayed at the Resort for 3 days over Easter 2016. We had 2 young boys and a toddler in tow, and expecting our fourth at the time. We stayed in the one bedroom apartment on the top floor overlooking the beach. The room and the view were stunning. The bathroom is absolutely amazing and very convenient for families to use with its open plan design (especially when washing off sand from the beach). The master bed was luxurious. The other amenities in the room were mostly good. We did find it very cramped .... which we wouldn't complain about except in the context of the price you pay which is quite high. For that money, we would expect a more spacious room. Our boys slept on a fold-out sofa which was of poor quality and extremely uncomfortable and once it was folded out it took up almost the entire room space. The kitchen was very good to work in, but again for the money paid we would have expected some more utensils. When you book a self-contained apartment room you expect to be able to walk in and have enough there to use. But we lacked even the basic utensils ... I think there was a wooden spoon, one set of tongs, cutlery, no large sharp knives at all (only a couple small paring knives) and just one saucepan to cook with. No frypan at the time and no chopping board either. We had to call down to reception for a sponge and detergent for the sink. For the money guests are paying here I think those small things could be improved and it's my reason for giving 4 stars instead of 5. The resort itself is absolutely gorgeous and very clean & tidy. The pool is nice but we went over Easter so naturally it was fairly crowded which isn't ideal with 3 young kids. It seemed to us like there are a lot of missed opportunities at this resort .... they could do more with the activities that they have available for guests (again in the context of what they charge to stay there); particularly activities that don't cost extra money. Everything there costs a fairly hefty fee so you need to budget a fair bit as a family to stay there if you want to do more than just swim in the pool and walk to the lighthouse. The kids enjoyed the games room and we didn't get to do the movie night but that seems like a great idea too. The resort could possibly do more to help families transport their belongings up & down from their rooms ... we had to make several trips up and down the tiny elevators to get our stuff upstairs (and staying in a self-contained apartment for 3 days with 3 kids = a decent amount of stuff). We did the lighthouse trek - I was 4 months pregnant and did the steep walk with a toddler strapped to the front of me. We found out afterward there was an "easier" track which we think could definitely be better sign-posted (you can barely find it, and we are locals familiar with the island). I've seen other comments about the general store - I agree it is very expensive but I also think it's quite well stocked and well-situated. The restaurant is also very expensive and the buffet quality doesn't really live up to the price .... these pricing issues are to be expected in an exclusive island resort but at the same time, it does seem a bit like gouging from tourists. We only ate at the restaurant once as a result. But these are just comments meant as constructive feedback and to highlight a few points for other families that may find them important to their own stay. Overall it is a very, very enjoyable family holiday destination and we look forward to doing it again soon.

"Idillic getaway that trumps Green island"

When I first visited Far North Queensland, I had the opportunity to visit Green island. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. Fast forward a few years and some family were visiting so when the opportunity to visit an island presented itself green island was off the list and Fitzroy island came on to the scene. Fitzroy is awesome. Now it's beach is unique in that it is not sandy. It's a Coral beach that is very well... corally. So reef shoes are recommended unless you have thick heels or calloused feet :) The snorkeling is pretty satisfying with good access to corals and marine life right off the beach. If you are a strong swimmer and want to see something spectacular then the snorkeling off to the left hand side of the island will take your breath away both figuratively and literally. It takes about 30-45mins of swimming to get to the side of the reef which is pristine and untouched. There you will find soft and hard corals of many different and brilliant colours. It's like swimming in an underwater rainbow. There are many facilities on the island but importantly they cover the basics. Standouts include for hire paddle boats, a water trampoline, glass bottom boat tours. On land, you can hike up the top of the mountain and look at the expansive view which will take your breath away (again both literally and figuratively speaking). The bottom line if you have a choice between green and Fitzroy. Take Fitzroy, you won't regret it.

"Paradise found"

after reading the reviews we didn't really know what to expect, so we did abit of food shopping and jumped on ferry over to island. We went to reception were told room not ready but could store bags and use facilities, so we headed straight to the pool. Nice area, big pool with a swim up bar which did open at 12. We enjoyed the pool for a few hours then got key to room. We were on the top floor and wow what a room. Very spacious, clean and well equiped everything we needed. The bedroom window was massive and looked out over sea, only partly blocked by trees. The bed was very comfortable and we slept well, very quiet. We went to nudey beach, climbing the pathway, which was nice but do t carry too much. Beautiful beach lovely spot for snorkeli g or just relaxing. Stinger suits worn by most people so you didn't feel too silly. Had drinks and food in Foxys which was nice we didn't find it expensive at all. Lovely views and great wildlife. We spent a week on the island and we loved it from start to finish were sad to leave and hope we can someday go back.

"Girls getaway"

We travelled to Fitzroy for a relaxing break with close friends; we didn't imagine how beautiful Fitzroy Island really is until we got there. Ocean suits are quite roomy and have a great view and were friendly and cleaned the rooms daily. Meals were excellent and we never had to wait for Foxy’s or Zephyr’s. Staff were happy to help and were always up for a chat Craig, Bec, Tommy, Brandon and Simon made us feel at home and very welcome. Snorkelling and glass bottom boat tour was amazing we got to see beautiful fish, Stingrays colourful coral and turtles. There is no doubt we will return to Fitzroy

"Fantastic Holiday Destination"

We stayed for a week in an ocean view suite for my 40th birthday and we couldn't have asked for a better place to chill, snorkel, dive and just be. We spent our spare time doing a few of the walks around the island and enjoying cocktails in the pool bar. The staff were amazing - all so very friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The head chef helped my partner to organise a cake to be delivered in time from the mainland for my birthday and all of the staff at Zeffa's sang a great 'happy birthday' for me. It was great! One particular staff member, Simon, who often worked in the pool bar was absolutely awesome. He was by far the best F&B attendant I have come across in a long time (and I have a background in F&B management). Our ocean view suite was fantastic, very clean, modern and serviced each day. We brought some of our own nibbles over from Cairns although the rest of the time we ate at Foxy's which served awesome food and great cocktails. I would highly recommend this resort for a great getaway. We plan on taking our kids up there next year for a family diving holiday!!
