"Luxury price hotel run by backpackers"

We flew all the way from the UK for a friends wedding (which was of course amazing), but were just surprised by the mismanagement in this resort. The island itself is stunning and well worth a visit, but if you've forked out the money to stay here you expect the staffing and organisation that goes into running a top hotel to go with it. They were terrible to communicate with prior to our stay - took ages to respond, and gave us terrible rates - we actually looked up a deal on their website (stay 3 nights save x%), and had to ask them for it. The room and resort is nice - great pool and poolside bar, the room was well kept but the floor was not swept once during out stay - we had to do it ourselves. Restaurant well overpriced, and foxy's bar is nice if you want a drink but is essentially a backpackers bar with drink stained laminated menus and a happy hour - oh and don't bother eating there (oh right, you've got no choice) - very expensive and awful quality. Needs a complete overhaul/refurb. It could be a really wonderful, mid-luxury hotel if it had that level of staff. As it is, it has this weird mix of resort come backpacker vibe. They need to ditch the cheap t-shirts and put on a shirt - seems a good look for every other hotel in the world.

"Camping at Fitzroy!"

What and amazing experience! Camp grounds are well looked after - nice shade and space. Love how much you can do at Fitzroy , we all had fun and we traveled with my three children 11,8 and 3 . Unfortunately two of the big walks are not appropriate for a three year old and didn't get to go up the summit and lighthouse ! Great excuse for a next holiday. We only stayed 1 night but I would stay at least 5 next time. The corals were great although you have to be able to swim confidently and away from main areas if you want to see the real geams in these waters. Weather and visibility perfect which made the island just feel like paradise only 45' away from mainland! Nudey beach -not for nudists - just its name is perfect, literally ! Will be back

"Beautiful island, not the best staff"

Recently I travelled to Fitzroy Island for a wedding and spent 3 nights at the resort. The island is beautiful with a few walking tracks, pool and endless beach. One problem we encountered was the staff (especially in Foxy's Bar) were not very accomodating to guests and meals took forever and a day to come out (over 1.5 hours!). Fitzroy Island is very limited when it comes to food choices as the only options are $40 meals at a restaurant and Foxy's where everything is fried - burgers, chips etc. The resort staff also serviced at random times throughout the stay (must be on island time) but on the day of the wedding didn't both to service apartment until 2pm right before the ceremony.

"Beautiful island and resort but furniture weren't in good and clean condition "

Beautiful island and resort but furniture weren't in good and clean condition. We paid $340 Australian dollars for one night resort. The view is spectacular. However, furniture wasn't in good condition.

"Nice island, terrible resort "

Stayed there in August 2015. The island is beautiful and a step into paradise. The resort is awful, terrible food - very limited choices. The room was very unclean, scuff marks all over the shower tiles as if they had never been scrubbed. Uncomfortable and small beds and paper thin pillows. Our bed was rolled into itself so we felt as though we were sleeping on top of each other. I lifted the mattress to find there were missing slats and underneath the bed was filthy and dusty. When we asked reception for a bigger bed we were told there are only doubles on the whole island even though we booked a QUEEN room through Expedia. The bar/cafe there says on the menu chicken breast but they serve raw chicken thigh. My partner is a chef and sent it back to the kitchen because it was under cooked and they brought it back out and said it's pink because it's chicken thigh (HA they even admitted it wasn't breast as on the menu) so that place left a bad taste. However there wasn't anywhere else to eat and didn't like the restaurant menu with its three or so choices per night so we starved and ended up eating bread because there wasn't even a toaster. We considered leaving the island after the first or second night because we couldn't sleep comfortably or find a decent meal but found the island itself was entertaining enough. The facilities were okay - nice and big pool but the pool bar shuts way too early. The games room was the most entertainment we got out of the air hockey table. All non motorized water sports are not free so you need to be prepared to pay. I would recommend grocery shopping for snacks, fruit, breakfast cereals, sunscreen, big spray etc. on the mainland before getting there. There is a barbecue near the campsites that you could probably use for dinner but otherwise there are no cooking areas so you have to eat the restaurant or bar food. Cocktails are very NON alcoholic (weak/half shot) during happy hour so do buy them if you like a sweet drink only. Most of the staff were nice. But the resort needs some big spending to at least upstyle and make the rooms comfortable and not dark depressing bunkers. Ps. you can hear your neighbors every move too so beware of thunder feet walking above and other things.
