Over Daintree Wilderness Lodge

"A retreat in the true sense of the word"

This is our 3rd time at the Daintree Wilderness lodge and we stil loved every minute of it! The location is simply stunning. The little huts are nestled into the rainforest and on stelts so you really feel that you are in the middle of the trees. If you are after peace and tranquil nature to just sit with a cup of tea and watch the trees and birds this is the place for you. The interior of the huts is well designed combining nature inspired 'back to basics' yet still has a touch of luxury and elegance. The little veranda in front of the hut is perfect to just sit and relax. The new managers David and Jen are just wonderful and really look after you in the true sense of hospitality! the small number of huts means they can really pay attention to each guest. They realy go out of their way to make your stay as good as possible. Each night we got a special vegetarian dish apart from what was on the menu. The food was really yummy, perfect sized dishes to leave room for dessert. They also have a very good selection of wines and spirts and you can enjoy a cocktail on the deck listening to the night noises of the rainforest. If you get itchy feet there is plenty to do around the area. We shall return

"Fantastic all round"

You really are in the rain forest staying here, it's fantastic. Our lodge was one of the furthest away from the main reception and our entire time, we didn't pass another person on the boardwalks. The rooms were very sympathetic to the eco nature of the location while providing everything you need and at no point do you feel like you are missing anything. We had a great shower, very comfy bed and some resident sugar ants. you cannot avoid that fact, you are in the rain forest, wildlife will come to say hello, including cassowaries and their babies. Due to the location there is no TV signal but there is an extensive dvd selection alongside a generous amount of books to make use of. The food was brilliant, you do need to book for dinner and if you do have any dietary requirements, they are more than happy to accommodate but let them know in advance, isn't particularly easy to pop to Tesco with the location. We were one vegetarian and one non, staying for two nights and there were two options for vegetarian each night for us. One of them was that good we both had it one night! With it being ran by just the couple on site (really sorry can't remember your names) they do a fantastic job, right from checking you in, providing a lovely breakfast and doing all the cooking themselves, they are a real credit and really did make our stay wonderful. We would certainly stay here again and would highly recommend it to people wishing to spend time in the rain forest, but remember the deet, with the location insects do bite.

"Wonderful location "

If you want to see wild life up close this is the place to see it .cassowaries birds and many other types of animals wonderful sounds day and night right beside you. David and Jennifer are perfect host & hostess . And thank her for booking the trip to see the crocodile .this was a great experience for people who live in a country with very little dangerous wild life .we wouldn't hesitate to return to daintree.

"Majestic lodge and excellent customer service!!"

We stayed in the Daintree Wilderness Lodge in April for four nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary and we could not have picked a better retreat!! It will be hard to do this place justice with my words…it is just so majestic! The location of the lodge is extremely easy to get to once you’re off the river ferry, with the managers detailed instructions on how to find them very helpful to ensure your trip runs smoothly. The lodge is close to all that the Daintree has to offer with most things just a short drive away, however once you’ve driven into the lodge you seriously feel like you are worlds away! The managers are so knowledgeable on all the area has to offer and are there to help plan your time (along with bookings for you!) or to leave you in peace to come and go as you choose. Personally, we found all of the managers’ recommendations very worthwhile and we were much appreciative! The lodge itself comprises a gorgeous open-air restaurant area and spa where you can dine amongst the rainforest….where else can you do this! Each meal is cooked to perfection, with us rating the steak as the best we’ve come across (after eating at all the best steak houses in Melbourne, this is a big call!), as the chef sources all of their produce locally, some from the beautiful nearby Atherton Tableands (another must visit!), with Dave obviously caring about each meal that leaves his kitchen. We had no issues whatsoever with the restaurant (it seems the negative reviews do not apply to the new managers who took over in December 2016) and found the dinner and breakfast always ample. Juice, coffee and the local Daintree rainforest tea is served at breakfast, along with an option of either croissants, museli and yogurt or eggs and bacon- all of which is included in your room rate and again very yummy due to the freshness of the locally sourced produce! The cabins themselves are just gorgeous! So secluded, quiet and of decent size. We enjoyed the glass panels in the ceiling, waking and opening your eyes to the rainforest is very special, as is looking out your windows to see that you are surrounded by rainforest! The cabin had an aircon, fan, TV and a great hot shower and was quiet. If you experience rain you may thank yourself if you bring along some ear plugs to help you sleep, as rain on the roof can get a little loud at times. However I imagine that this comment is not unique to the lodge, if you are staying in the heart of rainforest and it’s raining, I’m sure wherever you’re staying the noise on the roof would be loud! The lodge has resident cassowaries, so if these animals are a must see for your time in the Daintree, you won’t be disappointed here… on several occasions we had the joy of just watching a male and a baby cassowary roam around the property. Gorgeous. The new managers Dave and Jen also greatly contributed to making our time so special. They both go above and beyond to make you feel right at home and obviously take great pride in their customer service – hard to come by these days but these guys know what they are doing!! Cannot thank you enough! We won’t hesitate to recommend this place and look forward to our next visit! Brooke & Tim X

"One with nature, in comfortM"

We loved the room with skylights to view the canopy. It was totally dark at night and very quiet (except for the frogs, other critters and soft rain, of course!) A very restful and restoring visit with great food and excellent service. Thank you!
