"Nice place to stay"

   30-08-2017
Stayed at palm bungalows for five nights. The accommodation is very nice and comfortable. The rooms have recently been updated. Nice to sit on the balcony and read etc Staff were very good during our visit which is perhaps explained by the large number of overseas staff.

"Peaceful Visit during Audi Race Week"

   29-08-2017
I booked our trip to Hamilton Island at the beginning of the year, not knowing our visit would coincide perfectly with Audi Race Week. When we were waiting to board our plane in Sydney we were surprised at the number of people on the flight, then realized that they were all heading to the island to participate in the regattas. Arrival at the Hamilton Island airport was a bit hectic due to the number of visitors, but overall we managed to get our luggage quickly and boarded a bus that would bring us to our hotel. We were traveling as a family of 4 (with a 6 and 8 year old). We were all excited to have tropical weather after spending 2 weeks in Sydney, Auckland and Melbourne. We were transferred to the Reef View Hotel which does the Palm Bungalow checkins. We were the first in line, so our check in time was quick and easy. Then they popped our luggage (and us) on a golf cart and drove us to our bungalow. We were on the top level of bungalows, and I wasn't sure how I'd like it given that we had to walk to the beach (I usually like to have the beach outside my doorstep). But we found the location quiet and beautiful. The trees and plants are so well cared for and lush. Plenty of space for a family of four, and the kids loved the hammock on the veranda. Kitchen had all we needed to prepare our meals. Since we had been traveling 2 weeks prior to arriving at Hamilton Island, we were happy to have home cooked meals. The IGA is by the marina, and only a 10 minute walk away (15 minutes if you have kids that are lollygagging). Prices are reasonable and they are well stocked; plus they have a good beer and wine selection. Pots, utensils, plates, cups. All was there. Also, had some salt and pepper packages so at least you don't have to buy it at the shop. Breakfast buffet is included!!! Since I booked so far in advance I forgot about free breakfast. We only realized on our last day. Bathroom had ample space for all of us, and closet space was good also. The only things that became a little troublesome for us were (keeping in mind these were not major issues as we found solutions): a) the trundle bed was quite tough... both the upper and lower. One of my kids complained the first night, but it wasn't until the second night (when he stole my spot in the bed and I had to sleep on the trundle) that I realized just how hard it was. We called up the front desk and just asked for a bunch of pillows. They happily obliged and it made a big difference. b) there are only 2 seats on the veranda... which makes sense since it is not large. However, it just made it a bit difficult for us all to sit and eat together. As an alternative, the kids would just eat in the hammock with their plates on their laps. The beach was a 10 minute walk away, which didn't bother us. The island was so beautiful that we enjoyed the walks. The pool at the Reef View is the only heated pool I think. We found the other pools quite chilly, but kids would still play in them. We were always able to find lounge chairs and towels. At the Reef View pool the staff come around periodically with towels and ice water, which was really nice. Catseye Beach was a lot of fun for us. There are a lot of rocky sections, so we were happy we brought our water shoes. The water shoes also let us explore the tide pools and rocks when the tide went out (and it goes out FAR). We would spend hours every afternoon just looking for crabs, conch and sea stars. Bring water shoes! The staff said there were a lot of whale sightings from the beach the previous week, but I didn't get to see any sadly. The water activities at the beach are great. I think the only things that had waiting lists were the Hobey Cat boats. They wait until low tide before allowing you to sign out the snorkel gear. Lots of animals... wallabies, kookaburras, cockatoos (so noisy), lizards, lorikeets, etc. All the staff was super nice and helpful. Whenever we needed something they were happy to oblige. There is a free shuttle bus that can take you around the island, so no need to rent a golf cart. My suggested "must do" list: One Tree Hill for at least one sunset (so pretty), Cruise Whitsundays Great Barrier Reef excursion, Whitehaven Beach (lovely), and explore the rocks at low tide. Only thing I didn't get to do was hike to the top of the hill, but I would presume the view would be spectacular. We had added excitement because it was race week... live music at night, pool party, pop up shops, etc. And the crowds stayed by the marina, so we never felt like there was too much commotion. Loved this place and would definitely go back again.

"Great hammocks and wallabies"

It's very nice to be able to lay out on a hammock on the deck with a tasty beverage and have the local fauna hop by. Tidy, clean room. Could do with more satellite tv options. Very good central location.

"Perfect accomodation and position"

   13-08-2017
The Palm Bungalows were fabulous- super comfortable, perfect location within easy walking distance to everything. Friendly and helpful staff, beautiful pools and great water sport activities. Great way to start each day with a delicious breakfast overlooking Catseye beach. Highly recommend, we will be back!!

"Great value"

   08-08-2017
We stayed at Palm Bungalows for 7 nights. The room with self-contained little kitchen is modern and each bungalow has a front deck with a hammock. The safe in the room didn't work, but that didn't worry us as the place is really safe. The location is very convenient - walking distance to Catseye Beach and the Marina. If we were tired or timely, we could get on one of the free shuttle buses which operates every 15-20 mins. We could just walk down to the pools and Catseye beach from our bungalow (there are another lot of bungalows which are located across the street further away from the beach). This place offers complementary non-motorised water activities, so we enjoyed kayaking and sailing on a small catamaran. Unfortunately we couldn't try wind-surfing as the weather condition was not ideal - that was what we were told by the staff. This place also offers complementary breakfast. It was usual buffet style but we could choose from two restaurants. The one in the Reef View Hotel tended to have a queue at the entrance so we chose the other one at the Resort Centre more often. All staff including receptionists, porters and house keeping were very polite and friendly. We were glad that we chose this accommodation.
