"Brilliant Bungalows"

Came for honeymoon, loved the location of our bungalow just up on the hill with a beach view and just a 2 minute walk to a pool with the swim up bar. Pool facilities are great and staff are young and friendly. Can’t go wrong anywhere with accomodation in Hamilton really, but this place was great for its privacy, location and service.

"Great Destination"

Hamilton Island was an agreeable surprise. The amenities, staff and the island were great. The Bungalows were really comfortable and close to Marina Village, swimming pools, shopping. They seemed to be relatively recently updated as the interior was painted in light shades and the bathroom had half glass screen and fabulous shower. We loved being at ground level, as opposed to being in the high rise hotel, and had privacy as well as a lovely green outlook. As well as the above there are free shuttles on the island, so you can get everywhere really easily.

"The Prisoner"

Anyone who remembers the 60s tv series with Patrick Mcgoohan will be at home on Hamilton Island. It is basically a modern purpose built resort with various hotels restaurants, bars shops mainly around the Marina area. On arrival at the airport you are collected by numerous bright young things who direct you onto buses for the short trip to check in. Many residents travel about by electric golf buggies whose silent approach can surprise the unwary. A regular shuttle bus service runs round the island providing transport from the Marina to the various hotels and up to the lookout at the top of the island for sunset drinks. We stayed in Palm Bungalows which had all the basics-bed, bathroom, small kitchen area for basic cooking and large terrace with hammock. A good spot to watch the resident kangaroos. Cannot fault the Island for cleanliness, organisation and facilities for its captive audience, but overall had too much o a resort feel for us but if you intend to visit Whitehaven Beach is an ideal stop off.

Hamilton Island is such a unique place, it's so charming! It is an island that for the most part people don't use cars on. You rent buggys (golf carts) and use those. There is a marina and a "downtown" area with a pharmacy, bakery, grocery store and lots of shops and restaurants. I would say the food was good, but not great, but there was a good variety to choose from. Room: We stayed in room 35 of the palm bungalows and I highly recommend! It is like a studio apt with a kitchenette. It was great to be able to drive the buggy to the grocery store and stock up our kitchen with wine, cheese and crackers and then breakfast items. All the bungalows have a nice deck you can go enjoy breakfast and watch the sunrise. We found that for the "nicer" restaurants you MUST have a reservation, so I highly recommend doing some research and getting reservations set up. They also suggest reserving buggys ahead of time, but when we were there, there were plenty. Although we visited in September, so it was off season. Beach area was nice, water was calm and decently warm for September! And we swam with a sea turtle, right off the beach!

"Very nice bungalows, but part of a massive resort"

We arrived on an early morning flight at 9.30 am. W knew that check in time was 2pm and the reception said that staff were cleaning them now and hoped to be able to give us access before then. As it turned out, it was 1.30 before we had the keys! We had bungalow No 12, on the row to the right of the massive hotel. They have apparently been refurbished and were roomy and well appointed. The 'private' decks in front of the bungalows are in fact very public - the path for pedestrians and golf carts runs right alongside it so you are on display to everyone passing when using the deck. Apart from the lack of privacy on the deck, the bungalows were quiet at night and had a kitchenette with electric hob, fridge, dishwasher etc. We self catered for two of our four nights here. BUT there was only a tiny wooden table on the deck to eat our meal. Totally inadequate and so easily resolved. There was no table inside the room either, even though there was oodles of space to put one. Luckily the 'dinner' plates they provided were smaller than usual, so there was just enough room for two plates and two glasses of wine. The bottle had to sit on the floor! Apart from the minute table there were only two chairs, so goodness knows how couples with a child with them copes with this if they self cater? Apart from that little niggle, the bungalows were beautiful and personally we would much rather stay in a place like these than the socking great hotel that overshadows the whole of that part of the island.
