"Not Quite Qualia"

   19-01-2017
This property has been given a make over under the new management but it it not up to the quality of Qualia on Hamilton Island. There is a breathtaking transfer of $800 a couple and the isolation of Hayman compared to Hamilton Island. The staff are friendly but inexperienced and unfamiliar with the resort. We found the recreation area by chance! The seafood buffet put on by Chef Justin and his team is a highlight. This is a fine resort but it is not quite Qualia

"Blissful retreat"

   18-01-2017
Amazing facilities, top service, high speed wifi so was able to keep connected without frustration, whilst still able to enjoy the amazing views and privacy of a single resort island. Activities were easy to organise and staff were helpful in suggesting a varied and comprehensive itinerary for our stay

"A dreamplace in the grand coral reef bareer"

   18-01-2017
A dream island resort in the middle of the coral reef barrier. Very beautiful place and rooms. Perfect spot to relax and rejunevate. Seaplane excursion unfortunately not available, because theyvtell you you have to be 4 but dont do anything to try to find another couple interested.

"Gorgeous Spot but Dated Facility"

   17-01-2017
My wife and I have wanted to visit Hayman Island for years. This is a fantastic location to jump off to the Great Barrier Reef and snorkel or dive. Over the past couple years this resort was updated from it's original 1980's vibe. Overall the renovation helped but many of the common areas are still dingy. Our room was an oceanfront premier king room, was great. Surprisingly the restaurants were very family style and quite average. We did try the spa and came away again, less than impressed. It is a very beautiful location but the facility was not what we expected.

"A five star resort but it needs to up its game "

   16-01-2017
Having read the previous reviews I was a bit worried. This was the part of our honeymoon where we were downing tools to relax and there were some very varying comments! This is an amazingly beautiful island there is no doubt about it. Arrived at Hamilton Island airport and greeted royally by the O&O team and whisked straight onto a beautiful boat with plenty of fizz and some nibbles. A great start. Arrival and check in very smooth and the rooms (we were in the Pool Wing) are spacious and well kept by housekeeping. No problems with the room itself. Service was a bit intermittent across the five days. Mainly during the day - the beach drinks service slow and with no urgency and a couple of times the waiters just standing chatting to other customers with no idea others waiting. Girls on activities desk occasionally a bit clueless, I think is when the main staff were on break. Word of advice. Book your restaurants (and activities) when you arrive or before if you can. First night we got there all full and we got told to go to the pool bar. We didn't want to eat there. Managed to get into Bamboo which was excellent. Over the course of five nights we ate in all the restaurants except Pacific as that was a buffet which we didn't fancy. Food was perfectly good in all of them - we ate at the Chefs Table in the kitchen on the Friday and met some fabulous people - made for a nice change. We also booked the teppanyaki table (best food of the holiday, special mention to Neil). Breakfast is not amazing was bored of it by day 3 and would have been nice to have an a la carte to order from. Juice, bar orange, is from concentrate or pre made bottles. Stuff not topped up. Not a sign of an avocado which would have been nice. However there were some absolute stars in the food areas, special mention to Kim Arthur, manager of the restaurants. She kept a very close eye on us from our first evening and made sure we were well looked after. She popped up at every evening meal as well as hosting the wines at the Chef Table and is an absolute hospitality professional. We did several activities including the Seabob (well worth it), Jetski (brilliant) and a fishing trip to the reef - also very good but all come at a price! We left the island very smoothly by helicopter - fabulous views and saved us having to do a helicopter tour. However despite some of the reviews, hotel is luxury and pick wisely with your food and it is delicious. A good wine selection too at each place. However it needs a strong hand to manage it, and pick up things to the next notch. Another reviewer said it felt like backpackers were running the hotel and whilst this would not be fair of all the staff, I see what they mean. Breakfast needs attention and these two things bring it down, especially as it not an inexpensive trip. Aside from the hotel and transfers which we had paid for previously; our extras bill for five days was nearly $5000 dollars. For that money my expectations are high. Maybe the magnificent Kim should be put at the helm...??
