" $300a night - 1 blanket in winter cold 'hot' breakfast"

5 night stay in winter. Paid 300/night for what would pass as a basic standard room. Bed comfy, bath, aircon - good enough. However -- midwinter - only one blanket on the bed and told there were no extras to be had. I could turn on aircon all night - this blew on one bed too much and was hard to regulate - and just stuffy etc. Then - up early - 6.45 - all hot food at breakfast was barely warm or actually cold - including a big tray of bacon hash browns etc. Compaint well managed with comp cooked breakfast of bacon and eggs coffee. But same again next morning and this time raw bacon evident in with cooked. This complaint did get attention of food services mgr and 50 discount. Food hygiene concerns again at 30 DIY bbq with salad sitting in an inch of water. Cold few heaters going if any. Also got back to room 5.30 pm one night - not made up and towels missing. Last night after a louder complaint a bedspread appeared - but for one bed only. Other person still had to sleep with extra bath towels on bed for warmth. And remember - paying 300/night. Not up to scratch.

"Pretty awful, but where else are you going to stay?"

If there is a tourist hell, the Ayers Rock Resort is one of the circles. All of the hotels within about 100km to the Uluru-Kata Tjuta NP are run by the same concession, and this is the cheapest of the lot. And by "cheapest" it's the only one under $300 per night. The room had cinder block walls, through which we could easily hear our neighbors, and cheap indoor/outdoor carpeting. Our door had a gap of about a centimeter all around the frame, which in the middle of winter means you need to run the heater at full blast to compensate. And, of course, the only way to run the fan all the time (to muffle out your neighbors), is to shut off the heat mode and run it on fan mode. This made for some chilly mornings in our room. Also, the door lock didn't work properly and would jam about a third of the time, so we'd have to ensure that we'd actually locked the room before leaving each time, but all bets were off if the housekeeping staff came to clean. I say "if" because we stayed three nights and they only came twice during that time. Inexplicably, we were not provided with any shampoo in our room. We were given conditioner and soap, but never given shampoo. Luckily, we had some saved from another hotel to use. The food situation is terrible. You are given a lovely brochure upon checking detailing all of the restaurants in the resort complex, and when you set out to find meals, you will find nothing available. Only one of the restaurants in the Pioneer Hotel, the Bough House, even had indoor seating. If you are there in July and get back from the park after dark, you are likely to freeze to death trying to get dinner. The funny thing about the Bough House is that it "requires" reservations, even when it's only 1/3 full. If you stop in because you take note of all the empty tables, you will be told they can't possibly seat you and assigned a time around 45-60 minutes later for dinner. Then when you turn up at the appointed time, the same tables will still be empty. Your other choices are to wait over an hour for "fast" food or go to the grill-it-yourself BBQ. Or, of course, you can wander over to one of the other restaurants on the other side of the compound, only to be turned away because everything is full. All in all, this place has really found the trick to cornering the market and running with it. I would love to say I wouldn't recommend it, but if you want to see Uluru and Kata Tjuta, what are you going to do?

"Basic but Clean "

All of the hotels in the Ayers Rock / Yulara area seem to be owned by the same people so accommodation is extremely expensive - we paid over $300 per night for a bunk room with a private bathroom which was extremely basic, but very clean. There are good options for meals in the surrounding area (again very expensive). We were happy with our accommodation rather than paying even more to stay in one of the fancier options. I would recommend calling to make a booking here as it's difficult to work out what your options are on the website.

"Casual comfort"

For a family of four the Outback Pioneer Hotel provided an affordable mid-range option during the peak school holiday period. We stayed in a room with a double bed and two singles for three nights and we were very comfortable. The bathroom was very clean and towels were provided for the pool area (a bonus when you are travelling for a short while and don't want to have to pack bulky beach towels). The pool area is particularly relaxing with beautiful gum-trees and pool furniture to relax on after spending days walking and cycling in the outdoors. The buffet breakfast was included and offered a good variety of breakfast options. The staff in the restaurant were friendly and helpful. It was great to be able to have a substantial breakfast to give the family energy for a day of adventure. For approx. $900 for three nights, we considered this a good option. The room service was a bit lax, but when you remember that you are in the outback, this was a very minor detail.

"Good accommodation but plan your food"

Came here on a road trip: 2 families with 4 people each. We stayed in the cabins at Outback Pioneer. They were clean, although a bit small for 4 & a tad dated. Grounds & pool are well maintained & it's a short drive to Uluru. The low point was how poorly food outlets were managed. They've got potential but are completely missing the mark right now. The IGA at the town centre is well stocked & I would recommend purchasing your food there.
