"Very central comfortable hotel."
Very well located hotel with large rooms. Just a very short walk to Mitchell street and the night life and bars. Rooms getting a bit worn but still functional and comfortable. Restaurant was closed when I was there for emergency repairs so cant comment on that. Has a small pool out the back and parking for cars. Room was comfortable and clean with efficient air-conditioning. Only complaint and if you read my other reviews you will know it applies to every hotel I have stayed in in Australia, and it is there is nowhere near enough staff employed at this ( and most other Australian) hotel. However the room and location at top class.
"An good basic hotel"
This is on older style hotel (1980's) but its clean and the rooms are big. The old style atrium with the plants is an interesting feature. good bar and restaurant the pool needs updating but its good value for money and in the heart of the city. You can walk anywhere in the city. air-conditioning is good and really required in Darwin.
The novotel was clean and a great place to stay, also close to the CBD. We walked to the city which was two blocks away, with plenty to do. The night markets were especially great. The staff were great as always, kind, helpful and always happy. would definitely stay their next time we visit Darwin. It is a place with so much to see and do. Go to Darwin, its an awesome place. We went for our nephews wedding. Parking is a little difficult as its street parking, but definately worth hiring a car to get around the big shopping centres and travelling mate to the wildlife parks etc.
"Restaurant lets the hotel down."
I can't remember the name of the restaurant we visited at this Hotel but I certainly remember the meals. My daughter and I dined there early this month and were very disappointed. I ordered an eye fillet and was presented with a rib fillet. It was much bigger than an eye fillet and there were big sections of tough gristle through it. My daughter ordered a pasta dish and it was so bland she just ate the wedges, which were nice. When the waiter collected the plates he would've seen the pasta dish barely touched and the chunks of inedible steak on the other plate. Not a word to enquire how we liked our meals. Probably just as well. On the other hand my husband and son had burgers at the bar there and they enjoyed them. Maybe that's the trick.
"Tired Hotel, Bad Food - Friendly Staff"
I had to stay at the Novotel Perth for business due to an error by our reception not booking my preferred accommodation. I had vowed not to stay in another Novatel when I stayed recently in the Perth Novatel and when I entered the Darwin Novatel my fears were met. The site is obviously an older site with a musty odour in the air. It seems the Novatel management model is to “ride them into the ground†with minimal maintenance or upkeep. Check in was friendly and I must say that throughout my stay all, except 1 staff member (some sour Irish girl?) were extremely helpful. The room was dated but clean. The bathroom was old and worn and not very inviting. The water pressure is really low so showering is annoying. Also please remember it is Darwin so the cold tap does run warm to hot water depending on the time of day. The food was!!!! Well my expectations were low but obviously not low enough. Breakfast was below par. For dinner the Barramundi spring rolls just had a fishy brown paste in them, could have been cat food for all I know and the main course of chicken was in a grainy sauce that had not been cooked out and finished – I could not finish any of the food that was served to me. When I told the waitress when I was leaving she was surprised and informed me that the head chef was on – By the quality of the food at recent Novatel's do any Novatel's actually employ Chefs?? Per the above it is the first time that I have ever missed out on the full breakfast and gone the continental. Best decision that I made during this stay. I know there is an indigenous issue in the territory but I did not appreciate one of the staff bad mouthing some of the indigenous guests in the hotel behind their backs with an openly sly comment to another staffer that “they will probably start chasing frogs†in the rainforest feature area. The positives – The hotel is 1 street from the CBD action and fronts a park that leads to the waterfront. The negatives – The hotel and the food Simply do not stay in the Novotel Darwin CBD unless you really really have to. The people are friendly but the hotel is tired and worn out.
