Kings Canyon is een imposante kloof en een absoluut hoogtepunt tijdens uw reis door de Outback van Australië.

"Remote location no excuse..."

We booked our room at Kings Canyon Resort knowing that it would be expensive...after all, it is in the middle of the desert, a really long ways from anywhere, and it is pretty much the only game in town. We expected basic accommodations, surrounded by wilderness and desert. Well, we got the desert, and we got the wilderness, both of which were spectacular...alas, the 'resort; was somewhat less than basic.... While the sheets on the bed were (probably) clean, it is unclear why the previous nights' dirty sheets were piled up outside the doors of our rooms; I suspect that whomever was on janitor duty ran away in terror when he or she saw the shared bathrooms/showers, because these had clearly not been cleaned since the previous season, judging by the incredible variety and amount of dead bugs scattered about and stuck to the shower curtains. The washrooms and showers in our own provincial park campgrounds on a long weekend are kept cleaner than this, uh, resort. It was gross. We would have been happy to pay the $200 + per night for a basic room with a shared bathroom and shower (again, this is a remote location) had there been even a token effort made towards cleanliness...

"Expensive and comfortable room includes breakfast"

A standard room at Kings Canyon cost $265 for one night which is apparently a 20% discount as we had prebooked on their website. When we arrived to check in there were a few people before us and only one person on reception. After almost a 30 minute wait due to all the explanations required for the campers another person arrived to help on reception. The staff were very pleasant and we were kindly upgraded to a deluxe room. The room was very comfortable and it had a spa in a room with glass around it. We didn't use the spa as it was so open. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was spacious. The mini bar drinks were reasonably priced. We had dinner in Carmichaels a la carte restaurant and it was very good. It was particularly nice to have linen tablecloths and napkins. Most prices were between $31 - $38 except for the steak which was $49. We both had the chicken breast which was a huge meal as it also included potatoes, sweet potato, parsnip, zucchini and broccolini. In fact the portion was a little too big and we were very pleased we didn't order an entree as well. Service was friendly and efficient with drinks also reasonably priced. We also had the buffet breakfast at Carmichaels as it is included in the tariff. There was an omelette chef and a good variety of options available. Overall we thought the resort was very good but the price of accommodation was expensive.

"Decent room but everything is extremely over priced"

I booked a standard room for 2 with a queen bed. The room was clean, tidy and spacious. There is no mobile phone reception unless you are with Optus and the Wi-Fi is very expensive starting at AUD$10 for 100mb! The bistro for lunch didn't have huge variety and not much of a selection for vegetarians. Most of the lunch meals (either a burger and chips or fish and chips) were around $25-$30, dinner at the restaurant was not much better at an average of $35-$40 for a main. Whilst I know it s a tourist area and there are no other places to eat, I couldn't believe the prices they were charging for food and internet. The one thing that I loved about this "resort" was the view of the sunrise I woke up to.....it was beautiful!

"Middle of no where...with expensive food and not much to do"

I recently stayed here with 3 other adults for two nights in a lodge style quad budget room. Surprisingly the room was fine for the price per night which was really cheap, the only downside is there are no private bathrooms in this style of room. We stayed quite close to the shared bathrooms so it wasn't an issue and found the bathrooms to be free at all times, basic and clean. The only downside to this resort is the lack of entertainment and food options particularly at night time. We found as it wasn't peak season that only the pub offered pizzas for dinner and shut quite early around 9pm. The petrol station closed at 6pm also so couldn't visit after hours which was a bit annoying. As the resort has a monopoly of where you eat they could charge whatever they wanted which was disappointing. Another café opened during the day for lunch however had short opening hours (11am-2pm) and again charged a fortune. To be fair the food we did have was nice but wasn't worth the price. We spent both nights in our room with only one TV channel as there was nothing else to do... One of the highlights of the resort was seeing a wild dingo roaming the grounds which was awesome - lots of warning signs around but apparently not that many exist anymore so keep you eyes peeled. Would recommend only staying one night if any as the only attraction in the Kings Canyon rim walk which was fantastic.

"They don't clean"

We checked in and we thought they charged us for 2 nights. The bathroom towels were hung up like a child would hang them. The coffee cups were not clean. The bathroom smells awful. I understand they have well water but with what they charge they should have air freshener. The tub was not clean. We put a tag out and called to request the room be cleaned. The coffee cups and spoons were not replaced. The bathroom was not clean. The tub was partially cleaned. There are a lot of ants and spiders in the room. We went to the front desk because our room key quit working. The next day we checked out and were told they had not charged us the correct amount upon check in. If we had known they only charged us for the one night we would have left after the first night. You would think the staff would be familiar with the few roads they have in the area but they weren't. We were told one of the roads was better to take and it clearly was not. The owners should be embarrassed charging these rates for this kind of service.
