Over Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge

Our favorite

On arrival we were a bit disappointed with the look of the place - the reception area looks a bit tired but staff were friendly enough. We had a Billy suite which was fabulous...we had a log fire in the centre of the room, which I must say was needed as despite it being Summer it was pretty cold. We have a kitchenette which was lovely and the bathroom was huge with a jacuzzi bath. We had Wallabies and Wombats visit us early evening and early morning and we absolutely loved the room. It was the dining options that were a let down. One restaurant was casual with no booking required but it was difficult to get a table...we had to wait a while. There is a fine dining restaurant but there was little on the menu we would eat so we gave that a miss. Breakfast was very mediocre. We didn't have great weather, a lot of rain so the long hikes or even shorter walks weren't that desirable to us as we aren't hikers. We did the evening spotlight tour which was fun and we got to see a lot of animals. Internet is very poor there and be warned no tv's in the room either! There isn't a lot of choice in the area so if you want to discover the National Park then I guess this is as good as it gets!

"Short stay at Cradle Mountain Lodge"

Great stay, great location, wonderful room hard to fault, staff performed adequately, except for one person they didn't look particularly happy to be there. Maybe some smile stickers to remind them to smile would help!

"Pristine forest right at your doorstep."

We thought we'd be squashed in like sardines - 2 adults and two teenage children in one Pencil Pine Cabin (35) but there was ample room for lounging about and playing cards, board games etc - which you will need to bring as there is no T.V. There is abundant wildlife literally outside your window and the most beautiful walks, such as the Enchanted Walk and King Billy walks right at the property. The in room wi fi is non existent but free wi-fi in the lodge itself is good. The breakfast wasn't the best we had in Tassie but hot and plenty of it. Dinner at the lodge Tavern was enjoyable but very busy.

"Terrific "

We loved our stay. The pencil pine cabin was large and cosy with a nice gas heater. The shower was great. The Highland restaurant was like a ski lodge look and very tasty. Best of all, this place is within the national park. How lucky can you get? 1,000 year old King Billy pines, spectacular waterfalls, deep, layered, ancient ecosystems unspoiled by man in the age of - its nearly all spoiled by man- and all kinds of native critters crawling around. Couldn't have asked for more.

"3* At Best."

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights and sad to say that we were most disappointed with the experience. We both agreed that it's a mix between Kellermans ( think along Dirty Dancing resort) and your worst ever school camp and you pretty much have an idea... I'll start with the positive - Location and staff & that's about it. Negative - Food! We had one meal at the Bistro and just couldn't manage to finish it. Chicken, mushroom and bacon fettuccine- minus the bacon! Chef and waiter didn't pick up on this. Butter so hard you could use it as a door stop. Breakfast was basic; nothing more and nothing less. Food & beverage prices were too high for the quality. Second evening we had our dinner in the more formal dining room and the main was lovely. Eye filet that melt in your mouth and lamb that was delish! Wine selection was varied and not too expensive. If time permits, make an booking for your meal here. Best part though ( and I hope you pick up on the sarcasm here) was going to bed on the first night only to find old blood stains on my pillow cover & not small amounts. I called reception, however it was closed for the evening. Credit where it's due, they did contact me the next morning and apologise - thank you Paola. Not sure about you, but I'm guessing most people would find this a major turn off! Will we recommend this hotel to anyone? No way. We left Cradle Mountain and needed to book accomodation in Launceston. Reasonable rates were offered by Peppers here, but we chose to stay somewhere else. There are so many things that let this place down and I hope management take time to address the many issues that myself and others have raised.
