"Spectacular, remote and 5-star luxury in every way"

Was in Australia for 3 weeks, and was very excited to include this spot as part of the trip. Our 3 night stay did not disappoint. Took the flight from Adelaide, which was seamless, and picked up by SOL with several other couples at the airport. The island from the road, on the 1hr long drive, is rather non-descript, but only heightens the beauty of the views upon walking into the lobby. We arrived around noon, and after a cocktail and review of our stay, our room was ready and our bags already delivered. The rooms, we had the entry level one, was massive and wonderfully and simply decorated. No TVs! Perfectly stocked with drinks, snacks, backpacks, wine, and replenished daily. Like others, I never once saw housekeeping near our room, yet it was always cleaned, and turned down. The bathrooms are gorgeous, and showering with that view was unreal. Meals were amazing and unusual each day, with a separate daily menu available with more traditional fare (Hint: get the oysters off the daily menu as an appetizer, and the fries as a side, no matter what you order off the menu). The portions are small, but if you are hungry, I would be stunned. The open bar is a great touch, and there was often someone there willing to make a martini for us. Otherwise just grab a glass your drink or wine and relax by the window. We did every excursion included in our itinerary and added the nocturnal tour(highly recommend). Each one is interesting (esp for non-aussies) and gets you up close to all sorts of creatures. We were literally a few feet from seals and kangas. The island feels so far from reality, it was a great feeling. We also did some biking and hiked over to the swimmable beach, which took about an hr and was beautiful. They will also shuttle you over there. The spa is stunning and my massage, top-notch. Our last day, we checked our bags, had one last lunch and, sadly, boarded the shuttle back to the airport. Tips/Notes: -Book the AM flight into Kangaroo Island and the afternoon one out. Gets you the most time at the Lodge, and really extends the relaxed aspect of the stay. -Do all the excursions offered. They were exactly as described and the island is different at every spot. Phillip, our tour guide on several tours was amazing. -Bugs were not bad(we sprayed before going out), but the sun will burn you very quickly. They have sunscreen at the front desk. -The guests skewed toward older couples, we are 35 and 41, and were on the young side here, but met wonderful, active people from all over and stayed up having drinks in the lobby with several couples we met. It was nice to see familiar faces each morning with breakfast and get feedback on the tours they had done. -The cost is high, but the product and service was flawless. For 3 nights, you pretty much put your wallet(and cares) away and enjoy...

"Wonderful stay!"

We visited in February. This resort is faultless. Walking through the main doors to that fabulous view was a real wow factor. The rooms are beautiful as is the location. Loved the electric blinds and the well stocked fridge. Walking along empty beautiful beaches was a pleasure. All the excursions were great fun - the guides being being very knowledgable and friendly. Food was amazing and we loved the matched wines and the open bar. All staff were friendly, helpful and courteous. Couldn't fault them. We loved it here and were nearly crying when we left!

"Fantastic Remote Luxury"

They don't make it easy to get here, but the staff make it as easy as possible from the moment you land. A driver from SOL was waiting for us even though we landed late in the evening. We were transferring from our stay at Longitude and it was really great to hear they had learned a bunch about us from our previous stay. The lady checking us in and going over our itinerary already knew about some food preferences we had updated. The rooms here are nothing short of spectacular. You just cannot beat the view. On one occasion we saw a heard of whales right from our room. Even without the wildlife the view of the Southern Ocean is truly amazing. The rooms though themselves are very well decorated, clean and very comfortable. The lodge is where all the meals take place. I think the food here was better than at Longitude and we really enjoyed the long relaxed meals that were possible here every night. The choices in terms of food and drink were really excellent every night. The excursions here are much easier to make in terms of waking up early versus Longitude and the ones here are filled with wildlife. From the Kangaroos and canapes at night to seal bay during the day it was non stop great pictures and moments. The staff here from inside and outside the lodge were incredibly friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the area. I'm also really glad we took a whole day extra here to just hike around the lodge and enjoy the spa. This is definitely a place you want to take your time to enjoy and relax in. Overall SOL is easily someplace I could see us wanting to visit again. The seclusion and amazing area alongside the fantastic luxury really makes this a fantastic place to spend a while at.

"Luxury in a spectacular location"

What a wonderful place! The attention to detail is extraordinary and the experience is sublime. The rooms are gorgeous and spacious, the food is like eating at Rockpool (now 11 Bridge St) every meal. So much wine to choose from and since most people know at least something about South Australian wine, not hard to find something suitable. Oh, and Kangaroo Island is interesting too, especially with the included tours and walks. Highly recommended.

"Luxury destination for relaxation"

Stayed 3 nights with my husband to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. The lodge has been a dream destination for us for years and it exceeded the sky high expectations we had. The suites are perfectly decorated to be beautiful but not detract from the amazing views. The privacy and peace are absolute. The included tours are great but a little more targeted at international guests than Aussies. The food is unfaultable, creative, innovative, seasonal, local, perfectly portioned, textured and seasoned at all times. The open bar and room bar and treats are incredibly generous and top shelf. The great room is so breathtaking and welcoming, be nice maybe to have some board games or puzzles around to relax with. All staff were excellent, welcoming, friendly, thoughtful and always unobtrusive. We called the housekeeping staff the room ninjas, they invisibly and seamlessly keep the rooms beautiful, thank You! We made wonderful memories in this stay and would love to come back one day, it's a style of living we could become accustomed to!
