"WOWW!!! again, needs a 6th star"

Having been to this place 7 years ago and having enjoyed every second we decided to go there again, this time with more time and a bit more luxury so we stayed 4 nights in a remarkable. What can I tell you, even though it set me back a couple thousand € it was again worth every cent. So with all the reviews that you can read here, I´d rather go for some tips for those who think about going there and maybe even to increase your joy once you are there. Stay longer. This means you will have more spare time (and you may get a good offer as well) and you can spread out the bespoke experiences. 4 nights was just perfect. Take a room with a bath. Nothing beats having a good warm bath overlooking the ocean while playing with the provided toys (look for them) while sipping a cold champaign. Well, maybe sitting in your own spa pool outisde with bubbles also in the water does. The wines in the (daily restocked) minibar are good, but if you like others either ask or help yourself from the generous selection at the lounge. The drinks selection is more than generous what we enjoyed especially was to try the local fortifieds and Spirits (they mix very good cocktails) The daily food is a really enjoyable event so I can recommend to try even some dishes that may sound not so inviting. Most are surprisingly tasty and delightful. There is a nice bubbly red to be had (btw one advantage of staying longer is the ability to try more of the wines...). The pear juice together with a bubbly is also pretty good.. Really recommend the nocturnal expedition and the platypus waterhole. You might not see all wildlife (that´s why ist called that way) but still a wonderful nature experience. Have some long walks on the beach and enjoy the local flora and fauna. Take your time to enjoy the sunset and the stars... and afterwards light a nice fire All in all be open to new experiences, try out as much as possible and enjoy feeling at home far away from home pampered by the wonderful staff. In the end this is one of the best features of this property. 6 stars luxury, all included in a very relaxed and home feeling way

"Heaven on Earth - Our Latest Journey"

My wife and I traveled to Australia this month January 2017, our first stop was Southern Ocean Lodge. This was recommended by our travel agent Celestial Travel in Ponte Vedra FL., Celeste had visited some years ago. This is a very very special place, 20 suites overlooking the sea. This is a very modern Lodge, quite a beautiful architectural design. Every aspect of our visit was so well done, from food, open bar, staff and our Suite. We had the base Flinders Suite, nothing was basic here at all, everything was 6 Star. We took several Tours which many were complementary; Seal Beach, Flinders National Park, Nocturnal Tour, Kangaroos and Canapes and more. If you are looking for a luxurious spot to unwind and see pristine nature, Southern Ocean Lodge is at the top of our list. We plan to come back again sometime soon.

"Absolutely breathtaking"

My husband booked the Osprey Pavillion for my 50th for 3 nights. One word - "Amazing"! From the moment we were greeted at the airport to the moment we sadly had to leave, every moment was so memorable. Staff were fantastic, food was so delicious and the activities organised for us were so enjoyable from visiting the seals to having canapés with the kangaroos. We have been to many great locations but this was definitely the best so far. A must do for everyone!

"Awwwww...what a retreat."

Expensive? Yes. Worth it? Totally. Take your loved one and spend a few days at that beautiful lodge, surrounded by attentive staff and the most beautiful sights and things to do that nature has to offer. We spent three days here and regret not having stayed longer, there is so much to see and enjoy. We took the car over by ferry but wouldn't do that again, it's not worth bringing the car, you will hardly need it there and the hotel staff pick guests up at the Ferry or Airport. The last few kms of the road to the lodge are not paved but that's not a problem at all. After entering the secured gate we were welcomed by the Manager and were led into the reception area. When entering the main area with its open bar, Restaurant and relaxing Lounge our breath was taken away by the mesmerizing views of the ocean. Check in was perfect, we got to sit in the Lounge enjoying the views and some snacks and drinks while our suggested itinerary was explained by a very sweet staff member. Afterwards we were taken to our room where all our bags had been delivered to already. The room itself was stylish, spacious, modern, yet comfortable with a wonderful bed. Except the small walk in closet we could see the water from every corner of the room. The open bathroom was beautiful. A coffee maker, a fully stocked fridge, snacks, wine and the like were included and restocked every day. Housekeeping was impeccable as was the cleanliness of the room and bathroom. The day at SOL starts with a nice breakfast, not as overwhelming as in some other hotels offer but satisfying. It could use a little more variety and quantity but tastes great. The views of the ocean and the surrounding nature during the meals are just gorgeous. After breakfast guests can either take part in one of the various tours that are offered (some of them are totally free, for some you get charged extra) or relax at the spa or explore the area on their own. We did all the tours in our itinerary and some more, including an amazing long hike from the remarkable rocks back to the lodge with our sweet guide Kelly (4.5 hours, 14 km along the coast with sweeping views of the ocean!!!). In between the tours there was always enough time to have lunch or relax on the terrace of our room. Lunch was a three course delight, changed daily, of great variety and just delicious. The standard menu is always a good option to fall back on if you don't like any of the daily lunch items. Dinner was an "I lost count" course menu, always surprising and of great quality. Our first impression of the portion sizes ("pretty small") was quickly overcome when we enjoyed the many courses and the home made bread. You can always ask for seconds! Service during the meals was great. All waitresses and waiters introduced themselves and made a great effort to remember all guests' names and their preferences. All in all a great dining experience. Everybody who works there is very nice and helpful and we felt very much at home. The tour guides were fun to listen to and provided great knowlwdge of Flora, Fauna and history. WiFi speed and reliabilty was not too good but enough to stay in touch with home. The lodge does not offer gym facilities but going for a run down to the main gate to Hanson's Bay and back is great. Is there anything to improve? It would be just perfect if the lodge offered a bigger pool (it may not be compliant with nature's restrictions and sustainability though) and some "gym" like room and/or yoga/pilates lessons, this would just add to the overall great experience. I could imagine a wooden platform outside along the boardwalk to the beach where yoga could be taught in the mornings or evenings. Otherwise I wouldn't change a thing. We'll try to go back as soon as possible.

"Outstanding "

Resort is on the quite end of Kangaroo Island with great views of the ocean and wildlife. Rooms are very well appointed with large beds, lounges indoors and out and a very large bathroom. Canapés and cocktails every night is a great way to start the evening. We asked for Negroi's and were presented with a very nice barrel aged version. All meals are simple but well cooked and the wine selection is first class. Excursions are interesting particularly for overseas visitors but as locals didn't excite us as much. We had 2 nights it wasn't enough
