"Good location but a little pricey for what it delivers"
Taxi rank right outside and this place is right in shopping central. TIffany & Co is across the road. So if you are not here to shop then you have to avert your eyes as you enter and exit the hotel as retail temptations are everywhere. Really central for tourist visitors which is a plus. Close to transport links. Room was dim, poorly lit, especially noticeable at night. The only window in my room was over a central courtyard within the hotel so the light wasn't great even when curtains were opened during the day time. It also didn't feel private given that it opened up to central courtyard below. Bathroom was a bit dated. NIce and quiet though, I didn't hear anyone else during my stay.
"Unfortunately disappointing "
I have stayed at the novotel on collins a few times and had always been a fan, until my last visit. Upon check in was greeted with a warm smile and was given a room with a Collins street view as per my booking request but i was very disapointed to see that my husband and i had to lug around 3 heavy bags including a large suitcase to our room ourselves. During previous stays our bags were taken to our room by staff. We were not even offered a luggage trolley. Our room had faults that you should not expect to see in a 4 star hotel such as scratches all over bathroom door and work desk. As much as i would like to stay our room had all facilities necessary unfortunately it did not. Every hotel i have ever stayed in that offered bathing gel also offered a body balm also. I found it hard to believe that they could not supply that to their guests. Tea and coffe making facilities minus the buscuits. Toilet minus the toilet brush. But i must say that what disappointed me the most with my stay was that housekeeping walked in unexpectedly into my room while i was in the bathroom (directly opposite the rooms entry door) it was a total invasion of privacy and from there on i felt extremely uncomfortable and also questioning safety for the remainder of my stay. If there is no sign at the front of the door to request housekeeping that does definitely not mean its ok to let yourself in without so much as knocking. Novotel was previously my favourite hotel in Melbourne but after this experience i feel very let down.
Staff were extremely good throughout hotel. Loved the bar - great selection of drinks and good atmosphere Bathrooms need revamping - quite small altho shower is very good Good location - Highly recommend
"A big thank you"
We stayed at the Novotel on Saturday nigh and it was excellent. The service, food, the complimentary drinks, the car parking and all very reasonably priced. i would strongly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to stay in the Melbourne city precinct.
"Where's the service??"
I booked this hotel as a birthday night out for my partner having not stayed before. We are Accor memebers and only stay with them as the service is always superior. The day started badly though with us trying to navigate the streets of Melbourne to check in but as there is no driveway you must do the block until a spot opens up out front. I tried calling the hotel to see what to do but was hung up on 3 times! We saw an overnight carpark opposite so went and parked ourselves. Got to the hotel entry to find a still full bay of cars and 3 staff members talking. We went up to reception to check in which has a priority check in for Accor members (as they all do) but there is no benefit here, the service is slower than the usual line. We went to the other side and were checked in by a really lovely girl who wished my partner a happy birthday and said that the hotel would also like to offer us some bubbles to celebrate but if we prefered red or white wine that is ok just let them know! Im allergic to Champagne so we were looking forward to taking her up on the Red. We were happy to get a room on the 13th floor but being room 49 couldn't get further from the lifts and finding it became tedious. The room was nice and clean but nothing special and I was surprised for this to be the first Accor hotel in which we had not arrived to find chocolates and/ or wine or at the very least a welcome note waiting in the room. We also usually get upgraded as gold members if available but not this time. Being a special occasion I was especially disappointed. I thought it would be nice to get the wine delivered before we went to dinner so we could celebrate but when I went to reception was rudely told by another lady that I could only have the bubbles so I said please just send it up- at least one of us could have a drink. We got ready and waited but nothing EVER arrived. Whilst needing to iron my shirt found a completely broken ironing board with cover hanging off and didn't bother calling Housekeeping as we didnt have time to wait. It was also now too late to use our welcome drink vouchers as we had reservations. Not impressed. We had a wonderful night (out of the hotel) and when it was time to return made the long trek back to the room and comfy bed. One pillow was not enough so I went to the wardrobe to find 2 pillows with no pillow cases on them! I thought I had paid for a better than standard room in case we were not upgraded but it was not what I expected- I wondered what a cheaper room would have been like?! In the morning we got up and went to breakfast which was nice enough but dining area needs an upgrade. Server Cherry was really lovely and food was nice. We packed up headed to reception with our express checkout filled in but as it was quiet I handed it to a receptionist who said thanks and kept working, didn't ask how our stay was which is really poor. I'm an ex Front Office Manager and expect much better than what we got. This was the only Accor hotel we have ever stayed in where being gold members made no more difference than if we had walked in off the street- even when on business trips we always get a welcome card and gift. Very very poor. In the end we were quite happy to navigate the traffic with our bags, find our car ourselves and get out of there!!
