"Not the best hotel on our tour"
Our trip was as part of a group tour staying in several hotels. This was probably our least favourite. The set out meant long walks to the rooms which were not clearly signposted. The rooms were quite dark and looked in need of refurbishment. The bathrooms were clean enough and the beds were comfortable. Our room was quiet but other members of our group did complain that there was a lot of noise around them caused by other residents. The hotel grounds were nice with lots of animal life. The pool area was okay but the weather when we were there was unseasonally wet so we did not use it. The food was buffet style with plenty of choice but I would say it was only average.
"A Huge Disappointment "
We were on a group tour of Sri Lanka and while our first hotel was excellent, this hotel...the Sigiriya Village Hotel was not. The pathways around the resort were dimly lit and the cottage style rooms not easy to find. I would call this accommodation basic, even though it claims to be three star plus. The lighting inside our room was also dim and dismal and the room in general needed a total refurb as it looked tired and unkempt. The aircon unit was positioned over the bed and if the unit was switched off, the water dripped down onto the pillows, which was not appreciated in the middle of the night. We came back from dinner on our first night to find the door to our room wide open as the staff were turning down the bed sheets, every mosquito in Sri Lanka was now having a party in our room. We managed to kill a few but we were still bitten to death that night. Top Tip... Take some fly spray and spray your room before going for dinner and inform reception, you do not want their nightly bedsheet turn down service ... You have been warned. The hotel grounds were interesting with wildlife ie. frogs, ducks, monkey's all over the place. The swimming pool was also in need of refurbishment. Don't expect the food at dinner to be much better, but the choice at breakfast was excellent even though the restaurant feels a little like a canteen. Overall I am sorry to say I could not recommend this hotel.
Great hotel with spacious rooms and bathrooms. Great bar area. Food at breakfast and dinner was very good with a good variety of Sri Lankan and western food. Service is very good and the grounds are lovely. Good free WiFi. Beautifully maintained grounds. Great beds and very quiet rooms.
Its a good hotel. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. Food very tasty. Hotel itself offers much scenic beauties. Historical Sigiriya Rock and many other historical places are easily accessible. We had a peaceful drive along the nearby roads, watching beautiful scenes of semi-wilderness.
Beautiful hotel styled like a resort with gorgeous mature trees and vegetation giving it a calm relaxing & fresh atmosphere. I loved that there were all types of birds, especially their resident black & white ducks which would sometimes park themselves at the base of the lobby entrance, peering in whilst live music played...as if to join in with the fun. The room however was a little bit old & could have been cleaned bit better. The beautiful fabric bed stand for example was a bit dusty. Otherwise the room was quite spacious & comfortable with simple amenities. The services & local food were over all good. I would however advise against trying the cream mushroom cashew soup. I guess its best to stick with local food. Their buffet offered a good spread. They were undergoing a bit of renovations which made it hard to enjoy & relax in the room. The pool side area was nice to lounge in, with a gorgeous view of Sirgirya Rock. The spa was average. I had the full body massage with a steam bath. I personally would've preferred a stronger massage but they were overall friendly and helpful, letting me stay in the steam bath for a longer period which was appreciated after a tiring morning hiking up Sirgirya Rock.
