"Pleasant atmosphere!"

   25-06-2017
We enjoyed our stay at Ranweli Holiday Village, it was everything we expected. It is a very calm & quiet place to relax. We stayed there for 2 nights & 3 days. We liked to walk along the long beach in the mornings & we roam around the hotel in the evenings. The food was awesome, could have added more to dessert. Rooms are clean but we had problem in the temperature control of the room, the room was too warm. Ample space in the cupboard. Safety locker provided too. The staff were friendly. Overall, I'd say it is a pleasant stay!

"Very Average Could Be Better!"

   24-06-2017
We are frequent travellers. Sri Lanka was part of our multi destination. Our Virgin rep Jude Was excellent and made us aware immediately of a beach pest Anthony (do not approach) and ignore. After a tiring long flight we got to our hotel.. once we got to Ranweli the river boat wasn't able to reach us as the men were working on the silt digging in the river. the taxi man stood there and said (NO TIP!) baring in mind my partner had to drag 3 suitcases down an embankment to straddle onto the boat. with no help.. He did not offer at all, i didn't at the time understand the rupee so tipped him 20 rupee and he replied (No Forget it). We all thought what place are we staying at were people don't even help us? We got to reception and they gave us keys to a very dated, mouldy, poor electrics, and fusty smelling beach bungalow not the renovated ones on the web page an trip advisor. which we were told we were staying in the dust is remarkable in some areas, they have gloss painted the walls in the bathroom to cover the mould, whilst the roof in the shower is a shutter full of leaves.. on the plus side the bedding is fresh and clean. The surroundings an areas are beautiful and would easily be 4* 5* if star if updated properly. the food was very repetitive half board or all inclusive but all we wanted for dessert was ice cream and they didn't even have that. There are around 12 hot cupboards and most of it is curry there are no chips or anything like that unless you order from the al c carte menu. food is very cheap to buy over here but to them its very expensive and they don't waste anything. The Bottles of wine are expensive ranging from about £14 in English and obviously the imported drinks are more. we were not to bothered about the sea being rough as it wasn't what we went for anyway. It was very quiet for the time we went mid June. Its an absolute beautiful treasure but its far from luxury lots of work needs doing.. you can't walk into your rooms if you have been on the sand you need to wash your feet on the bowls on your balcony out of respect. The people are lovely very friendly but not very attentive with the rooms or the restaurant. And you don't have to walk for to see sand crabs, wild squirrel and butterflies

"Lovely hotel, poor service"

   23-06-2017
Ranwelli village hotel was everything we expected. Before arriving we read some questionable reviews, however our experience was overall okay, just horrible service. The hotel is beautiful.... we stayed for 10 nights & 11 days. Our room We booked a standard sea facing bungalow, when we arrived we were told we have been upgraded to a delux sea view bungalow. Which I believe was to do with us being Virgin customers, as we overheard a lot of whispering around virgin this & virgin that. The room was beautiful, spacious, bed queen size, lovely seating area in and out the room, bathroom lovely & large with an outdoor glass shower, it was perfect! The varander was spacious, included 2 Chairs, coffee table & two sun sun beds for our use. The sea view just beautiful & we could hear the sound of the waves from our room. Evening meals The food was okay, a lot of rice (as to be expected), Currys, bread & grilled meats. Some days the food was amazing & some days if was lacking and had very little choice. We found it very disappointing that there was a very small sea food options, there was white fish or very small prawns (nothing at all to brag about). In regards of table service during dinner it took a while to get asked for a drink & took a while to also receive it. Overall evening meals were okay & service was poo, nothing to brag about, but a lot to be improved. Breakfast Lovely, exactly what we expected. Good Cooked/hot options like eggs, sausage, bacon, pan cakes, beans, French toast. Also equally good cereals & bread options. Food overall Food overall was good, only negative would be the service and lack of fresh fruit. We only had a choice of watermelon, papaya and some nights bananas & pineapple. For a country rich in fresh fruit we expected so much more! Especially on the road when you see packed fruit & veg stores with mangos, passion fruit, avacado, melons etc. Pool/beach Pool was small for the size of the hotel, but was efficient for number of guests in the hotel at that time (June is very quite month). It was clean & well looked after, the life guard would bring you a beach towel daily. The only negative was the lack of umbrellas, if you wanted shade you had to seek shade from the tress around, which was the same on the beach. The beach was very clean, well locked after however because of the month the flag was on red, meaning no swimming or swim at your your own risk. Service/communication BE AWARE THE DRINKS AND FOOD MENUS ARE WRITTEN IN EUROS AND POUNDS, HOWEVER THE FINAL CHECK OUT BILL IS IN RUPEES. All food & drink Is overcharged. Taxes are not included in the price on the menus, after taxes are added for final bill is +30%, Further to our amusement service charge is mandatory NOT customary. We would not complain if the service was brilliant, but overall it was poor & unworthy of an additional payment. Overall, lovely hotel, well kept, clean. Service very poor, management poor. I would recommend if you're thinking of booking to go all inclusive to save you being over charged or book else where you may get treated like a valued customer.

"Pleasant place"

   22-06-2017
We've been for a week in Ranweli. We loved the food especially, rooms are very clean. The pool is really small and you can't swim in it at night. Still there is a long beach and we enjoyed the Indian ocean. Warm recommendation for a nice and pleasant vacation.

"A Ferry ride away from the crowds and hussles of the City"

   28-05-2017
Just around a hour and half away from the city of Colombo and a few minutes passing the airport intersection you arrive at the turn off to Ranweli Hotel Road which takes you to the Ferry ride across the water way which joins the sea to the lagoon. Ranweli Holiday Village nestled in the Mangroves of the waterway has it own diversity of fauna and flora which you may see separately on a boat ride arranged by the hotel. The staff are absolutely friendly and full of smiles and greetings and will check you into your bungalow type room. Every room opens into its own private outdoor sitting area facing the sea some closer than the others. The rooms are refurbished cozy and nice with all amenities of luxury one looks for. The food comprised of an excellent spread of Sri Lankan or Western delicacies one could select from and Chef and his staff are there at meal times to help you and see that the more demanded dishes are always topped up for the guests. The stewarding staff are always there to ensure you are served if you ask for it. The evening dinner is complimented with live music by a Pianist or Saxophonist and a selection of wines can always enhance ones dinning experience. Its an enjoyable vacation place and if there was one thing that can be improved its the timings to check in and check out which can always be flexed a bit when requested. When luch is served at 1pm insisting the guests check out and noon can rough edge a perfect vacation and leave that little bitterness. Keep it up Ranveli Sri Lanka is the Island of hospitality you have what it takes to live it up and give the visitors a reason to come back to Sunny Sri Lanka and its golden sandy beaches...
