"Reason for recent reviews"
I believe this hotel is attempting to do their best at accommodating for all visitors. Yet I find after traveling throughout the world, that travelers understand of how difficult it is for an establishment to met every ones expectations. I would ask that reviewers keep open minds and be objective in their reviews. Please be mindful of where they are choosing to visit in the world and at what level they are choosing their accommodation prior to their reviews, or read others reviews. I would also appreciate if Management would reply to these recent reviews. I support LGBTQ business and I am a gay man that believes establishments that are gay friendly need to have responsibility to reply and answer negative comments. Please stand united and support gay establishments or those that support LGBT friendly business around the world. WE need to know where it is safe and secure especially with recent shifts in opinions throughout the world concerning our community . Thank you and I await responses. I will be traveling to Curacao and staying at the Floris Suite Hotel in January.Thank you.
Yes I had a ok time . First they didn't have maps or itinerary of events for the hotel. When you approach the pool you are greeted with a warm sewer breeze. Positively their soup of the day : chicken soup 🜠is delicious. Beef is soft!!! And virgin pina colada. Our stay was fair. Some improvements needed. And I must add their manager is helpful!!!! Tried her outmost to assist.
"Could be really good but we had too many issues"
I will start with the positives. This is a nice and pretty clean hotel. The grounds are very lush. The pool is a nice size. There is a small but functional gym. You get a free beer or wine between 5-6 at the pool bar everyday. They have a nice beach club that is about a 5 minute walk and has a restaurant. We only went there once, but the food was good and reasonably priced. The is also a restaurant on the main property. The rooms (I got the basic garden view room) are good size, with a kitchenette, couch and 2 chairs. The patio is a good size. The beds are comfy. The maid service is good. The location is nice with a few restaurants (including those in the Hilton) within walking distance. The pool bartender was good. The waiter we had at dinner in the Sjalotte restaurant was the best server we had anywhere during the week. Now the negatives: When we arrived, we were told our room wasn't ready and wouldn't be ready until the next day due to a maintenance issue, they would put us up at the Hilton. There are worse things in the world, but we had gotten up at 3 am for our flight and we just wanted to unpack and settle in. I asked the man at check in if there was any other room they could give us where we could just check in and stay for the week and he said no. They did give us a voucher for a free meal at their restaurant, but the whole thing was an inconvenience because we had to live out of our bag at the Hilton and then pack up the next day, drive around for the day with our car full of our junk and then attempt to check in the next day. Also, I don't believe they were too full to give us a different room, I suspect they didn't want to upgrade me because I had paid for the cheapest room. When we finally did check in, nobody helped us with our bags or showed us where our room was. I can schlep my own bags, that is not an issue, but it is helpful to know where I am going. Perhaps pointing to the room on a map would be good. There seemed to be no map available, the man just pointed out the back of the lobby and told us it was that way. We then went wandering around (in the rain) looking for our room (there are no signs to point us in the right direction). Finally a lady from housekeeping asked us what we were looking for. We told her room 20. She told us that was downstairs. We were upstairs because the lobby is upstairs. The check in guy couldn't even be bothered to tell us to go downstairs. I don't consider myself to be high maintenance, but come on! Another issue is that the toilet wasn't seated right and we could smell sewage in our bathroom. We could also smell sewage outside our room quite often. The fire alarm went off in our room 5 times on our last day. 3 times after 11 pm. I admit that I burned a bagel the day before causing the smoke alarm to go off, but I would think it should be able to reset once the smoke dissipated after 5 minutes. When we got to our room the first day, our refrigerator wasn't cold and wouldn't get cold. We also couldn't open the safe. I will say that I used the Alice app as the hotel recommended and the maintenance people came very quickly. They fixed the fridge the next day and the showed me that apparently you can't set your own code on the safe, you have to use a very generic pre set code. That seemed odd. The wifi was spotty, perhaps because we were in a back corner of the property. Typically, I don't spring for an upgraded view when it isn't of the ocean, I don't think looking at a pool is worth extra money, but I would recommend upgrading because our garden view room was right up against the road and while we couldn't really see the road thanks to the abundant foliage, we could definitely hear it. Overall, this wasn't a disaster and the place had many positives. If we had only 1 or 2 of the issues I mentioned, I would have given it a 4 star. I imagine many people stay here and enjoy it very much. One other note, this hotel is gay friendly, which I knew going in and is no issue for my husband or I, I just didn't want to be the only straight couple there and that wasn't an issue. It is a very mixed crowd, with many straight couples in addition to gay couples. If I returned to Curacao, which is doubtful, I would consider giving this hotel another try.
I'll start with the few good aspects: the pool area is very pretty and well landscaped, and the free wifi (without login) available anywhere on the property is a nice touch. The free drinks during happy hour were also appreciated. Now for the many negative aspects: the hotel does not provide any sort of guidebook to the property and its services, which is a given at almost any hotel property worldwide. Instead, they give you a small sheet of paper with a limited amount of information. The rooms themselves are very basic, not particularly clean (there was mold in the shower; picture attached), and infested with mosquitoes. I live in Florida, have traveled to many tropical destinations, including other Caribbean islands and Southeast Asia, and have never encountered a hotel room as infested with mosquitoes. Even youth hostels and cheap hotels in Asia provide mosquito coils, window screens, insect repellent for sale, etc. Not so at this hotel, and it made my stay miserable. There were squashed mosquitoes from previous guests, including smeared blood, on the walls throughout the room and on the headboard (the pictures attached are only three of many), which evidently the cleaning staff didn't think required cleaning. Additionally, whether because of plumbing issues or just unfortunate airflow, I was treated to bathroom smells (use your imagination) throughout my stay. But wait, I'm not done. The fire alarm went off literally no less than seven times in four days (no exaggeration), and five times were in one evening. There was no communication from the staff regarding this. No, still not done. The food at this hotel was AWFUL—quite literally the worst I've experienced at any hotel, and I travel at least once a month, both within the US and internationally. This was not just an issue of bad quality (the shrimp was obviously old), but seemed to extend to sheer laziness (the "nachos" looked like what I might make while drunk at 4 AM). I purposely did not eat at the hotel after three consecutive bad meals. As I was on vacation, I very much wanted to like this property, and I have never left a review this scathing in my life, but I would not return to this property myself, nor would I recommend it to anyone else.
This is a nice hotel, the grounds are lush & beautiful with a very nice beach across the street. The service was adequate but not great, no one goes out of their way to help you. We carried our own luggage to & from our room which included a flight of stairs. Our room was quite noisy and the wifi rarely worked in our room. Not our favorite place but was clean and the happy hour of 2 free drinks a day did help!
