Aitutaki, ten westen van Rarotonga, is intiemer en heeft evenals Rarotonga prachtige witte stranden en een azuurblauwe zee, wat uw verblijf in de Stille Oceaan zo aantrekkelijk maakt.
"Week holiday for family of 4"
Our family of 4 (2 kids aged 5 & 6) stayed here in March 2017 which our first Rarotonga experience. We really enjoyed it, the staff where great and very helpful. We had a couple of issues with lost stuff (our fault) and got the lost things back both times thanks to the efforts of the staff.. Daily breakfast is tasty and plentiful and a typical continental of cereal, fruit, toast and muffins. Rental car office onsite is handy, $55 a day for a small car, petrol NZ$2.55 litre. We stayed in a 2 bedroom unit which was really nice. Each bedroom has a ceiling fan and there is a aircon unit in the lounge which cooled the whole unit. It had a fridge/freezer, stove and microwave. Coconut kids club is good to give the parents a break for a bit and was included in the price. Snorkel equipment was complimentary and the beach gives good fish viewing, kids also enjoyed snorkeling in the pool Wifi is expensive (NZ$50 for 1gb) and can only connect 1 device at a time which was annoying . Better option is to buy a bluesky traveller simcard at the arrival lounge for NZ$49 which gives you 3gb and some minutes (if you dont you will need to go into town to get one) then create a hotspot on your phone for other family members to use. Definitely eat at the Spaghetti house restaurant. Excellent food and you can draw on the table cloth!
We arrived as a family of 8 on the 23rd December; we were very excited as we only get to spend a family Christmas every 5 years. We are from Australia and met our NZ family in Auckland NZ to start a long overdue Christmas together. This resort will be remembered for all the wrong reasons. We stayed in a 3 bedroom villa and 2 x 1 Bedroom units. Units are dated but considering this "resort" star rating this is acceptable even if the mattress is so old that it is so uncomfortable and the horrifically loud air conditioner. The 3 bedroom villa; old bonded leather lounge suite that was peeling so badly that it had a throw over it to attempt to disguise what shocking condition it was in. What is not acceptable is the lack of cleanliness, I'll include a photo of the shower head to indicate cleanliness. The pool is small concrete, overcrowded reeking of pool chemicals and very cloudy water; we did not swim in this pool once. We decided to make use of the beach and the sun loungers. Keep in mind this is a large resort; I counted 16 at one end of the resort and 9 at the other end. These sun loungers should have been replaced SOME time ago. A photo speaks a thousand words! Broken, dirty and old!! My husband went to use the snorkels and masks that are free of charge at the resort; both that he was given had mould in the mouth piece and one was broken. He ended up going into town and purchasing his own. After the disappointing "tropical" breakfast on the 24th that was good ol' canned fruits and a couple of fresh fruits, cereal and toast we asked to make a booking for the following day Christmas Lunch. We were told that they were fully booked for Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Long story short, we were dealt with rudely and were left on our own to find alternate arrangements. Not an easy task on a island at that time of the year. I could continue with so many other terrible experiences we had at this "Resort and Spa" but I think you get the general idea. Rarotonga itself is a beautiful island; the people we met outside of the Edgewater were lovely. Would I go back to Rarotonga? No, The Edgewater has left us with a holiday we will never forget for all the wrong reasons. I lodged a complaint through our travel agents. I think it is summed up by our driver when departing to the airport...he told us they call it Sludgewater! :(
"Great Accommodation and Great Location"
The Edgewater Resort was amazing. It was my first time to Rarotonga and it surpassed my expectations. The staff are amazing from the Receptionist to the Restaurant Staff to the housekeepers. Such gorgeous people that just want to please. Gorgeous beach just a stones throw away. Food was amazing. The property does need some TLC but our room was great. Spacious room, beds were so comfy, shower was great and bathroom was perfect for 2 ladies that needed to share spaces and mirrors. The only disappointing thing that the Resort does need to address and that is to put all smokers in a separate accommodation block.Put them together. We moved rooms because we got put next to smokers then some moved in next door to us after another couple of days. I want to be able to go away and enjoy a drink on my deck without smelling other peoples smoke. The Resort is handy to a variety of restaurants within walking distance or take the bus that comes by regularly. I will be back to Rarotonga without a doubt. Love love love it.
We ate the Spaghetti House and it was delicious. Great service and very clean. Reasonably priced as well. We could charge back to our room at the Edgewater resort. You do need to book though it gets very busy. The restaurant is not open for lunch.
"It had air-conditioning"
So we stayed at the Edgewater in February, the rainy season. The room was average. No frills. Bed, small fridge, one chair, TV, counter, but no place to stash your bags or put your clothes. I used the ironing board to put the suitcase on so I didn't have to hassle with it on the floor open. The air conditioning worked great. Breakfast was included, very continental, bread, toast, cereal, but the local fruit was amazing. Beers were between $7.50 - $8.50 and I didn't like the food. I think the oil they cooked in was old....I always had an upset stomach after eating out of the dining room (lots of fried food), I mostly ate salads. The fresh fish was always good. We felt the resort was expensive, and very soon figured out how and where to go to get what we wanted and stock the fridge. For me the most unbelievable thing was the lack of potable drinking water...I asked for water with a meal, and I was charges $3.00 for bottled water. $7.00 for a big bottle. No glass of water on the island. So to stay hydrated, it was hot and humid, we boiled water in our room and chilled it in the fridge and recycled water bottles. Heading towards town there is a little bakery, Fantastic fresh sandwiches and other items. We did meet the nicest folks at the Edgewater, made some friends and the water was so nice. Never got into the pool, that was almost always filled with happy kids. I was not impressed with the service, but I am an American and feel the lack of tips defiantly impacted the enthusiasm of the servers. (the worst service we have ever had) When planning our trip, I realized it was the middle of the summer there and we picked the Edgewater for price and air-conditioning, and it was fine. The bus stopped at the resort so it made it easy to get around.
