"Some good some bad...."
We stayed at the Edgewater last week. And whilst the location is absolutely fantastic, the resort is well in need of some TLC. It's very dated and starting to look really shabby. I'm talking about the broken and poorly repaired tiles in the main restaurant area where in a number of places there were loose tiles lying around under tables and chairs. I found this interesting, as from a HSE perspective I would consider this a hazard especially for the many small children that were running about. We had a Deluxe Beachfront Suite, that I think is fair to say wasn't Deluxe but pretty basic. The spa bath may be the reason for the "deluxe" title. Nice sized room and excellent location to the beach, and lovely to hear the waves on the reef at night, however, the bed we had was absolutely knackered. Old and very hard mattress, broken / missing leg on one side in the middle, others were loose and couldn't be tightened due to the threads being flogged out. Pillows were thin and pretty poor. Nice to have a safe for valuables in the room which is always a plus. Tea and coffee making facilities were good, however not having any way to heat up some food ie a microwave was a negative. I get that the resort wants people to eat at the restaurant but remember people are on holiday and often bring stuff back to the room to try, that's all part of participating in the spirit of supporting the local community by purchasing their goods as well. The lock on our door broke whilst we were there, and the maintenance team was there really quick to fix it, which ended up in having to replace the whole door lock. Thanks guys, awesome service. Frustratingly the week we were there seemed to be the week of many loud and noisy neighbours who thought it was ok to stand out on their balcony and yell and shout at 3am in the morning whilst continuing their night out in town. Pool is way too small for a resort of this size, and a suggestion might be, to take onboard what other resorts have done and provided an adults only pool as well. It was pointless trying to relax in the pool, with yelling and screaming children. No biggie, but just a suggestion. Cocktails..... $19.00? Come on.... Seriously? I recommend the Cook Islands lager though, it's a good drop. The tropical breakfast, I struggled to see how mainly tinned peaches and pears complimented the "tropical" title. Backed up by different condiments - coconut, pawpaw and bananas on different days, maybe just "continental" breakfast would be a better name. Staff. Some were awesome, but others clearly lacked an understanding of customer service, and to be honest obviously just didn't want to be there. I don't need to give examples, there are already enough on here. Would we come back to Rarotonga? Absolutely. Would we stay at the Edgwater? Sadly no, because location wise it's probably the best placed resort on the island, but value for money it's not.
"Lovely sandy beach, with excellant snorkling."
First time in Raro, and took a few days to unwind, but great venue. Rooms a little tired but clean and functional. Good for families, as has a kids club. Staff always friendly and attentive. Had interesting opportunities to learn how to make a headress, the local fish delicacy, and dancing.
"Something for everyone - Even The Kids!"
I spent a month on Rarotonga, Oct,/Nov. 2017 and I know I will never stay anywhere else on the Island in the future other than the Edgewater Resort. I had the very best time anyone could imagine and the room was amazing! Going to sleep to the sound of crashing waves and waking the next morning to a view only seen on postcards! The lagoon was at my doorstep and the perfectly groomed beach was even closer. In Oct. the whales performed just off the reef, putting on an incredible daily show all seen from my private patio. I travel alone and felt very safe at all times even when on the beach in the evening. The resort offers a full activity schedule everyday with everything from Head Ei (floral wreath) making which you kept and likely wore to their Island Night, consisting of a huge buffet and Island dancing extravaganza, to drumming lessons. Fish feeding every morning was a must and the fish eating from your hands thrilled everyone! Great breakfast is included complete with fresh fruit from the Island. VERY Kid friendly with a nice pool and even a kid's club with daily adventures. Snorkeling was incredible and shells everywhere. Staff were really good in every area of the resort and the venue itself has a super location with the BEST EVER sunsets! Close to everything with many off site activities also offered. A large venue but never crowded or too busy. Everyday was perfect and if it wasn't, the resort did whatever it took to make it better. If you go, be sure to stay in a beach front room for an ever changing paradise view of swaying trees against the most perfect blue lagoon! You could never leave this resort and your holiday would be a perfect "10", but town and everything else is just around the corner when you finally tear yourself away from everything offered at the Edgewater!
