Over Paradise Taveuni

"Paradise inn and underwater coral wonderland"

My trip to Fiji for diving and relaxation was one of the best trips of my life because of the Paradise Taveuni Resort---especially the people. The owners, management (Flo), restaurant/bar staff, and dive staff were professional, attentive, and wonderfully warm people. The setting is on cliffs overlooking the ocean with lovely islands in the distance. The layout and landscaping are wonderful. The rooms were recently redone after a cyclone last year. They are spacious, nicely decorated, had a great bed, and very cool outdoor shower. The maid services were excellent. Daytime, sunset and nighttime sky watching were always beautiful and sometimes spectacular. The food was too much! Always several choices for each meal and prepared very nicely. The resort is very eco-conscious and sources almost all of its own vegetables, fruit, fish, and meat. The dive operation was very safe and professional. I really enjoyed the Captain (also a Mike) and the dive guides. Fiji is known for its coral and our dives along the Rainbow Reef were so interesting. We also saw lots of sea life. 3 boat dives a day were available. You could also do dives from their dock. On 2 of the days we took lunch on the beaches of beautiful, nearby islands. Very enjoyable. It was pretty much valet diving with the staff rinsing and setting up your gear every day. Like many trips, I was a bit sad to leave Paradise, but never so much because of the resort people. Across the week you got to know many of the people in a deeper way than is typical, in my experience. The Fiji traditions of welcoming foot massages, singing, and kava ceremonies made it a very unique cultural experience in an extraordinary setting.

"Incredible hospitality made it hard to say goodbye!"

We stayed at the resort for three nights and enjoyed their tours, their diving, their food, entertainment and their hospitality. Above all...the family and staff of Paradise are the friendliest and most welcoming we have ever enjoyed! A heartfelt thank you to Alan, Terry, Flo, Rosie, Berta, Sonny, Savvy (forgive spellings) and all the wonderful staff. All cruisers owe it to themselves to sail here and if you visit Fiji then treat yourselves to the warmest welcome at Paradise.

"The water is like swimming in silk"

You will love your stay at Paradise. We went there to get some rest in and we really had the best week of rest with a little bit of play. The food was amazing and the service is brilliant. The swimming out the front was one of favorite things that we did daily - the water is like swimming in a silk bath!!!! We also loved the massage, the romantic dinners at the front over the water and also the Fijian nights. You will love it!!!

"Went for the diving, would come back for the staff (and the diving)"

The staff and dive crew were great. We had way too much food included in our meal plan (breakfast, lunch, two course dinner). It was very difficult to pre-order lunch and dinner when your stomach was so full, but it does allow very efficient service at meal time. There is choice in the rotating menu but we found the staff most accommodating when we requested a change due to dietary requirements. Room was clean and comfortable - the outdoor shower was great making the internal shower redundant. We found we didn't need the air conditioning and were comfortable sleeping with the louvres open unfortunately other guests may not possess a 'quiet voice' if you have the chance of a sleep-in and they pass by your room (not a fault of the resort or staff). Fiji night was fun, the staff's enthusiasm is infectious - everybody should be up and enjoying themselves by the end of dinner. The shooting star when we dined outside on a clear night was amazing ... but we are not sure if this can be organised for all guests. The two dogs were docile and extremely friendly and quiet - just be mindful if they take you for a walk they become excited by cars on the road. We'd advise you to be mindful of the cane toads at night - it's very easy to tread on one in the dim light. Water temperature (May) was 27-28 degrees with good visibility and a variety of sites. Boat dives were typically on the rainbow reef which is a 40 minute trip but the boat is comfortable and spacious (with toilet and upper deck). The house reef is showing signs of recovery from the cyclone last year but there is still plenty of fish life including the resident ribbon eels - the coral will obviously take some time to fully recover. Dives out on the boat are limited to 50 minutes bottom time which feels very limiting when maximum depth doesn't exceed 25 metres. But dives on the rainbow reef are typically in a (light) current and with minimal permanent moorings available safe management and maintaining dive groupings is given priority. The great white wall was probably the highlight, but photos don't do it justice (at least not our photos). Our package included unlimited shore dives on the house reef which were unlimited in number and time so you could relax and take as long as you like. We also did a night dive on the house reef which was fantastic. Nitrox is available if you are so inclined (and qualified). Staff managed our dive gear so there was no need to lug stuff around - the way things should be when you are on holiday! We were a little surprised at the lack of 'big fish', limited to a few reef sharks and big morays.

"Great service!"

The service at Paradise was excellent! From the super friendly staff, the top notch comfortable bure, to the Wonderfully delicious food. I will definatly recommend this place to any one of my friends visiting Fiji!
