Over Paradise Taveuni

"A home away from home"

   19-03-2017
So aptly named, it really is Paradise. We recently stayed for 7 days on an unlimited diving package and everything about our stay was wonderful. Its hard to believe that the resort was destroyed by cyclone Winston just over a year ago they have done an amazing job of getting the resort up and running again. Our rooms were very comfortable, don't think we used the indoor shower at all ,it was so nice to shower outside and we always had plenty of hot water. We certainly didn't miss having a TV or WIFI in the rooms it was nice to get away from all that. All of the staff are very friendly and make you feel really welcome no idea how they manage to remember all of the guests names but they do. We didn't use the spa but noticed that all the treatments were reasonably priced and If the complimentary foot rub that we had on arrival is anything to go by I'm sure they are well worth it. The food was very good plenty of choice from the menu and plenty of food, never went hungry at all. Finally the diving was superb some awesome drift dives, very healthy corals both hard and soft and rich in marine life, Rainbow Reef is one of the most colourful places we have ever dived and the boat crew and divemasters made the diving so easy we didn't have to lift a finger just turned up and jumped in the water. We had an amazing trip and can't wait to return soon, thanks to Alan, Terri , Phil, Flo and all the wonderful staff and gorgeous dogs at Paradise, we hope to see you all again soon.

"A good choice in Fiji"

   13-03-2017
This was our third visit to Fiji. We arrived from Nadi at Taveuni Matei Airport which has coconuts trees lined up on one side of the runway and was met by the very polite paradise resort driver, Wanu (who happened to be multi skilled -singer, musician,) The trip to Paradise Resort takes one hour, through the town, small settlements and villages. The last half hour is on unsealed ground. We treated it as a sightseeing trip, through areas no other visitor actual sees. We passed through coconut plantations, cassava plantations and taro plantations. On some part the road went away from the coast and into the mountain. These was also green bush and fruit trees mainly papaya. The resort was destroyed by Cyclone Winston. We were there during the first anniversary when the resort had “Strong than Winston Day” activities. Thankfully TC Winston is not an annual event. We were welcomed with a Big Bula, a flower garland and a foot scrub by Vika. (our favourite smiling paradise team member) The accommodation is basically new and we enjoyed the outdoor shower/ bath, the artefacts in the rooms and the fresh flowers in the room every day. Ours had a day bed and a hammock outside for reading, (hey they have a good library!) relaxing and sleeping. There is nowhere outside to eat so go for the meal plan. The food was five star and well-presented and there was plenty of choice. They also had a blackboard menu every day. They had a unique system where you order your lunch at breakfast and your dinner at lunch. This meant that there was very little waiting around for lunch or dinner. (less wastage by the kitchen). Make sure you try the fish dish called Kokoda. Also try the taro fries. The evenings start with the beating of the Lali Drums and announcing Happy Hour followed by dinner. Make sure you enjoy the Fijian Night/ Lovo Night /Kava Night and they also have an Indian night. They played good local music during meal times to put you in the island mood. The resort is managed by a very fit and efficient women called Florina and she has a T shirt called “Go with the flo in Paradise” and we did go with the flow. This small resort is very relaxing and we were pampered by the Paradise team. Included in the team were the owners who floated around and made sure that everything and everybody ( including their staff) was okay. Alan the owner is a dive instructor and a chef. Another multi skilled and fit person was Maikeli, the barman, the waiter, the activities man, the organiser, the manager. He had an uncanny ability to work out your wants and needs to make sure you enjoyed your holiday. He also wore groovy shirts/uniform with his formal sulu. Perfect. In fact, the whole team is amazing. The paid activities we indulged in were: A long day trip to Levena Coastal Walk and Waterfall, which we would recommend to all visitors and it is the number one activity. In Involves a long 90-minute road trip to Lavena village, a 30-minute walk to the waterfall along the coast at first and the last 10 minutes inland to the base of the falls. The alternative was to take the boat 1 way and walk back the other or boat both ways. On this trip we visited the International Dateline. The second was a day trip on the resort diving boat out to the famous Rainbow Reef and we did 3 snorkelling trips in 1 day with lunch after the second snorkel trip at a beautiful beach in Vanua Levu, the other big island. The snorkelling is fantastic. The first snorkelling trip was over the “cabbage patch” Unfortunately, we did not do any diving which others on the boat did. Christina, the Diving instruction and Sarah the Dive Master were great guides during this boat trip for us and the other snorkelers. We also had two Bobo (Fijian massages) in the Spa room. We did a shopping trip on our own by taxi to the main town Naqara with its small shops and market, and stopped by the natural waterslides at Waitavola (on the way) on our way back. We also shopped at Meridian,( also on the way) the first shop to open in the world every day. We snorkelled outside the resort’s deep water ocean as well. We enjoyed resort’s farm tour, the basket weaving case by Meikeli and the coconut cooking class by Rosie. We did a short taxi visit to the local village, Vuna, to take some photos. The village is by the beach. Tavaro Waterfalls in Bouma National Park is also a must. The first of 3 Falls is not far (10 minutes) from the carpark. A great place to swim and jump into the water. The resort has 24 hours security for peace of mind and 3 “guard dogs” who followed us to Black Sand Beach and kept watch as we swam. Apart from putting up some ceiling fans in the bar/reception area and some lighting over the bathroom sink for shaving and make up this small place is perfect. Could do with bit more landscaping and they are working on it. They have done a lot in one year since the place was destroyed. Not too many places sing a song for you when you leave. It is a wonderful spot in a wonderful place in a wonderful part of the world. We have been to many places in the world and in Fiji and this is the best. Shirley Sydney

"One year on from devastating Cyclone Winston"

   13-03-2017
After the destruction of all the facilities by Cyclone Winston only a year ago the determination of Alan and Terri to rebuild "Paradise" has been successful. The helpfulness of the entire staff is amazing and it was a true pleasure to stay once again at "Paradise Taveuni". The rooms and the air conditioning was a delight to come back to after a hot trip to the waterfalls and slides and date line. Our meals breakfast, lunch and dinner were cooked to perfection and plentiful in size. The themed nights brought all holiday makers (12 in total) together for "HappyHour" and continued through the evening with laughter and discussions about the day's activities of diving, exploring, snorkelling or fishing. The instructions for "Padi"scuba diving was excellent and thorough. I'd never dived before however I took to it like a duck to water and loved the experience. The colours of the fish and coral on the reefs were amazing and the instructors - Jane and Christine were so helpful and they were so excited just as much as us especially when the 3m white tipped reef shark swam by. They said it was a baby but I'm not that stupid. All was safe and an experience I will cherish forever. It definitely ticked the bucket list. It was exactly a year ago that Cyclone Winston hit and wiped out everything so the anniversary was a time for reflection and thankfulness followed by the staff BBQ and sports activity. Everyone joined in and laughed and competed - winners are grinners especially in the sack race and egg and spoon race. Too bad the Aussies had to throw the final of the volleyball. It was a delight to watch the staff unite and enjoy a little down time and laugh and laugh and laugh. If you are looking for a little evening cruise and relaxation you can't go past the sunset cruise. To view the sunset on the waters around Taveuni Island was spectacular. Not forgetting the champagne was flowing with never ending sing-a-longs. I recommend to anyone if you are thinking of holidaying in Taveuni to not be concerned with facilities be inadequate as this destination is right back where it was a year ago and only to happy to ensure your holiday time is perfect. On behalf of my family I would like to thank all for making our stay memorable once again. We will be back to enjoy the hospitality sooner rather then later. Vinaka Vakalevu Alan and Terri and all the beautiful friendly staff.

"First rate."

   12-03-2017
I stayed here for five days after five days at Daku Resort at Savusavu. The rooms and the grounds and the public areas are very nice. My room had a king bed, a very large bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers. Meals were excellently prepared and served. Our group came to snorkel and snorkel we did. Despite a category 5 tropical cyclone last year the reefs are in pretty good shape with a wide variety of colorful corals and fish. The snorkel/dive operation is well run. The boat and crew are excellent. They had no problem with a group with a variety of skills and experience. The hotel is well run with a group of attentive and helpful staff.

"Truly a Paradise!"

   10-03-2017
I recently stayed at Paradise Taveuni as a leader for a Road Scholar program and give Paradise an enthusiastic thumbs up! They are near the world-famous rainbow reef and their diving and snorkeling operation is fantastic. They took us to a spot called Mini-cabbages which completely blew my mind. The staff (Ana and Tina) on the snorkeling boat were phenomenal - they spent as much time with people as needed and were very caring. We had people of various comfort levels with the ocean and before long, everyone in the group was buzzing around the reef like a fish. The boat itself was also very comfortable. This resort is in a fantastically beautiful location and the bures are comfortable and well designed. There is an outdoor shower in each room that is divine. The boss of it all, Flo, makes certain that every guest has everything they need. Make sure to get a massage while you are there! So relaxing in the little bure by the sea with the wavelets lapping at the shore! The staff is so friendly and nice...Rosie was a ray of sunshine and got the party started on Fiji night where you get to have lovo (Fijian bbq) and take part in a kava ceremony. Well done, Paradise! Thank you for everything!
