"The Honeymoon in Heaven"
So, where do I even start on this?! I visited The Pavilions with my wife at the beginning of October and it was everything I wanted and more! When we arrived, we were greeted at reception by Simone, the general manager who was so friendly and actually a breath of fresh air after a long flight. It actually seemed that Simone made a point to be there for new guests when they arrive to say hello and introduce you to the forthcoming paradise which was a really nice touch. We arrived late at night so missed out on the 'welcome foot massage' which we were told takes place for new guest arrivals. - Again, a nice touch. Gutted we missed this, however we were treated to a 90 minute full body balinese massage later on during our stay which was just incredible. I can't even put into words how nice it was. The girls in the spa do an incredible job and know exactly how to make you feel relaxed. After arrival, we were escorted to our villa. OH MY GOODNESS! It's amazing. So much better than the pictures in the brochure. Loved the touch on the villa door which has your name on it. For us was 'Villa Howden'. Turns out, you can actually buy the hand made sign from them if you so wish. Part of me wishes I'd done this for memory sake. Still, a simple touch which made it so much more. We had a pool villa which was beautiful. The work that goes into these villas is epic. You have your pool with two sun loungers with clean towels EVERY day. Also, have your own living room, kitchen, bathroom with bath AND shower and also another shower outdoors. It's worth mentioning everything is enclosed so you can relax in total privacy. If your budget allows, definitely choose a pool villa. I would not have it any other way. I've travelled a lot and can honestly say I have never stayed in a place like it. So unique and everything here makes you feel like a king or queen. On that note, you can opt to have your breakfast delivered to your room every morning if you so wish by your very own butler. Large selection on the menu such as croissants, breads, eggs, waffles, cereals, juices, tea and coffee and so much more. The only down side to this is you have to specify what time you want the butler to bring you breakfast the night before. So, you always have to plan your day with that in mind. I guess that suits most, but for us, we like spontaneity and for this reason actually missed out on breakfast a couple of days of our stay as we just wanted to wake up and decide what to do. Nevertheless, this just proves how the staff work for you and make it so easy for you. The staff even wash everything up for you once you're done. So, the rest of the complex includes a communal pool which is large and actually pretty deep in some places. I found this to be warmer than our villa's pool but that's because it's less sheltered so sun hits it more. It also has a bar by the pool and again, the staff will do anything for you so just tell them what you want and before you know it - it's by your sun lounger. Lush. The complex also has a restaurant which we tried one night. Found the food to be beautifully presented and actually very tasty. In fact, was one of our favourite meals during our Balinese stay. Maybe a little pricey but can you really put a price on good food? No, no you can't. If you don't fancy this, there are plenty of other restaurants within seconds walk of The Pavilions along the Sanur stretch. Seriously vast amount to choose from. This appears to be a couples only venue which is so nice and chilled. All the guests look so relaxed and seem to all have a smile on their faces. The staff all had great knowledge of the area and gave us some really good tips on the best places to visit - My 'must see' place to visit in Bali is for sure 'Nusa Penida' which is a small island just off the coast of Sanur and has the most beautiful beaches in the world. Anyway, that's for another review but check it out. One of our thoughts when we came to Bali is how does tipping work? I thought it would be handy to pass the information we learnt on.... So, basically we found if you treat it as you would any other country you visit, you can't go wrong. Initially, I didn't know how much things were worth etc so I was giving like 100,000 rupiah out a time. After a while, I found this was actually way too generous. I was told if I tipped about 20 - 50k Rupiah, people are generally happy. I'm a Brit so well aware of the stigma we have around being tight on tipping but I honestly think people were happy. The wages are low out in Bali and they rely on tourism - this is obvious as you just walk around so bare this in mind when tipping. Also, we learnt that actually Indonesian's love a haggle. Wherever you go, you might pick up an item and the shopkeeper would say 'how much will you pay?'. Initially, we thought they were trying to rip us off by asking us to name a price but actually it's apparently part of their culture. They just want to ask people to get a sense of what that person might think its worth then negotiate a price. They also say it's a way of conversing with people rather than being 'robot' like. We actually quite liked this way in the end. Anyway, long short of it - absolutely incredible place to visit, in the heart of Sanur. I already said to my wife, for our 10th wedding anniversary we are coming back for sure. Thank you Simone and thank you to all the staff at The Pavilions. See you in 2027!
"honeymoon from heaven"
A beautiful and quite villa that sits smack in the middle of Sanur. Super helpful and friendly staff who were able to help in every way imaginable. It felt like we had been staying with family or friends during our 4 nights. Has all the ammenities too
"Heaven on earth "
My husband and I just spent five nights at the Pavillions, and did not want to leave! So peaceful and tranquil, but it’s the intimacy and little touches which really make this place special. Like the way they light candles and incense in your room on an evening and leave little gifts on your bed. The staff are lovely and very attentive without being intrusive. We had a pool villa which was beautiful, very spacious and extremely comfortable, and spotlessly clean. The main pool area is quiet and relaxing with comfortable sun loungers and large towels. The food in the hotel is excellent and not overpriced like in most high end hotels. Breakfast is served in your room on a morning at your choice of time, there is so much to choose from and everything is delicious, I highly recommend the eggs Benedict and the French toast! There is a convenient shuttle service which takes you to and from the beach whenever you wish through the day. There are lots of places to eat in the evening, I would especially recommend the wicked parrot just down the street from the hotel to the right. Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Bali, and it’s certainly worth paying the little bit more for the pool villa - the only drawback is that you will never want to leave!! We are now staying at a very high end five star hotel in ubud and honestly it’s a bit of a let down after staying at the Pavillions.
"Quiet escape from the crowds of Sanur"
We had a garden room conveniently located near the front of the hotel by the pool. The rooms are a little dated and have minimal Balinese touches. There was a nice comfortable sitting area with a TV, table/chairs, kitchen area with a refrigerator, sink and water dispenser) and large desk/counter. A large bowl of fruit is provided but there is no knife to peel it or cut it; we were told you have to ask for one. So we didn't eat any of it and I imagine most people don't eat it either. Beyond that room was a closet area and then a bedroom with a large bathroom off to the side. The bed is only a queen and is a tight squeeze to get in to from one side. I had to go sideways. I could not find an adapter to use so make sure you bring your own. There was no TV in the bedroom. The air conditioner in each of the rooms worked very well and were quiet. There is a very nice outdoor shower too off the bedroom and a little sheltered area with a leaning ladder where you could dry bathing suits. The layout of the inside shower gets the floor and mat wet as the shower is right in the opening of the door. When we were given a tour of the room we were handed a small bar of soap - that is the only soap in the room so you have to take it with you to the showers (no bath gel is provided) so only one person can be using it at a time. Weird! They did provide body lotion which is a plus. There was a large bathtub and at night they lit a candle by the tub in the evening which was nice ambiance. They also place glasses of water by the bed in the evening. I guess you were supposed to fill a glass with water at the water dispenser in the other room and bring it in to the bathroom to use for brushing teeth and any medication you might need. We had a water bottle from our prior hotel and just used that. We spent a long morning at the pool one day and had it to ourselves. It was a nice size pool and the temperature was just right. The lounge chairs were very comfortable and the towels were extra large. There were plenty of chairs and umbrellas. Breakfast is served in your room so the night before you have to anticipate what time you will want it and what you will be in the mood for. I prefer to go to a restaurant on my own time. The food was OK. They ring your bell about an hour after to pick up the tray. All in all I think this is a suitable place to stay in Sanur. You are sheltered from the noise and crowds.
"Heavenly Honeymoon Stay!"
What an amazing hotel! We stayed at a private villa with a pool and absolutely loved every minute. The villa was spacious, clean and felt like luxury but still homely. The staff are MEGA attentive, ready to please in any way possible. Ali in reception is sent from heaven as he sorted our luggage issues without any fuss. The food in the hotel is wonderful! It was hard to go out for a walk or 2 because the service is simply impeccable. There is some room for improvement in the following areas: coffee facilities, wifi and the hot water. My husband happens to be a coffee adorer and the flat white was not great. It was a great excuse to explore the wonderful café culture outside the hotel and therefore, this was not a major problem. Also, the wifi and hot water happen to be a bit on the temperamental side. None of the above issues made us upset, we simply think it could be improved. We loved the hotel so much we will be looking at their sister hotels.
