"Splendid time at Ananda"
We just came back from spending 4 wonderful nights / 5 days in Ubud and at Ananda Cottages. We loved being able to have easy access to town, yet being able to disconnect and enjoy nature at its best. The cottages have nicely maintained rice fields in between the houses with beautiful trees and flowers that attract many birds and butterflies. There are a great number of Balinese statues, which are typical of the region and the staff adorn with flowers everyday. At night there were three musicians playing Gamelan, which added to the already relaxing atmosphere. The hotel offers a variety of activities, including Balinese cooking, yoga, rice field trips, etc. There are three pools and we used 2 of them. They were very nice and the setting was amazing. The restaurant is good enough for dinner but there are so many great options nearby that we only had dinner at the hotel one night. Breakfast was very good, though similar options were offered every day, there was a wide variety of options and good quality. I didn't feel bored with our breakfast options and the restaurant area is very beautiful / pleasant. Last but not least, the staff was very helpful and friendly. My only complain would be the lack of rackets to play Badminton at the court. The rest was wonderful.
"Great value oasis"
A friend and I just spent 3 nights at the delightful Ananda Cottages in a Superior Twin room. The setting amongst rice paddies and jungle provides an oasis from the increasing hustle and bustle of Ubud town. The room was clean and spacious, we enjoyed the view from our balcony and although we didn't leave ourselves much time to swim the pools were clean and the perfect temperature to cool down in. The included breakfast buffet had my favourite omelettes cooked to order and a good selection of fruit, pastries and hot selection. It was well stocked even though it was a quiet time at the resort. The staff were all friendly and helpful and made our visit even more pleasant. If you stay take advantage of the nearby Bliss Spa wth it's beautiful surroundings and professional staff, just a short car ride away. Can't wait to go back again.
"Wonderful, relaxing, quiet."
My friend and I stayed here after being in a village for a week. It was a wonderful experience, very welcoming and comfortable environment. The room had wonderful carved doors and a sheltered porch with table and outdoor settee. The bedroom was roomy with comfortable beds. Great swimming pool with view over jungle and rice paddies. It was interesting watching the rice paddies cleared and re planted while we were there. Ananda is a bit out of Ubud too far to walk but the shuttle into Ubud was very useful . Great stay, wonderful helpful staff.
"Great place to stay "

"Much Room for Improvement"
I stayed at Ananda Cottages for a total of three nights. Overall, it was a pleasant stay because I'm generally not too picky. Here are some of the things I observed so that fellow travellers can make an informed choice when staying here: What I liked about the hotel: 1) The villas definitely had a rustic feel - it's set among nature and you have a nice view of rice padi fields; 2) The staff are very friendly, polite, helpful and honest - A friend of a friend had left her wallet in the room but the staff were quick to retrieve and handed it to me so that I could send it back to the owner; 3) They have a few pools so you can take your pick of pools to swim at (even one with a pool); 4) Reliable hot showers; 5) WiFi is generally good despite the large compound - I had very little problems connecting when I needed to; 6) I believe the hotel has introduced channels with English content - there was HBO and NatGeo; and 7) The hotel is not too far from central Ubud (walking takes about 20 minutes), so you can walk down and up the hill and get to do your shopping, eating and sightseeing, without really having to pay for a taxi or ride back. Some areas where the hotel is lacking: 1) The hotel provides just two 330ml bottles of water per room - if you shared the room, you'd have just one bottle each; 2) The room I stayed in was a little dark and musky, possibly not having been used for a while - I had a frog on the wall and what looked like signs of termites (saw dust, which kept reappearing) on the end tables; 3) The cups in the room had lizard deposits, which Housekeeping didn't do anything about; 4) Only body soap is provided but not shampoo - You still get the other amenities like toothbrushes and shower caps, but mine were in damp paper boxes (you can buy shampoo cheaply at the minimarts outside); 5) The blanket is literally one thin sheet of fabric so using the A/C might require you to turn the temperature up a little; 6) The fan in the room has only two speeds - on or off and is not too well positioned such that you can just use the fan without the A/C (because of the thinness of the sheets); 7) Breakfast and food served at the restaurant was rather average - but if you're not too fussed over it, you'll probably find it good enough; 8) The doors are locked using an old-style padlock on the outside, and a sliding piece of wood on the inside - the one on my door had broken off but was not fixed so I felt security was an issue; 9) They do not have electronic safes in the room but they provide safe deposit boxes at the reception; 10) The compound is split such that there is a main side and a secondary side - I was given a room at the secondary area, which means you have to leave the hotel, walk about 50 - 70 meters down the street, find a narrow alley (which is easily missed since there are no signs) to get to your room. My recommendation would be to ask for a room in the main area if possible because getting to reception and breakfast can be a hassle from the other side.
