Over Westin Galleria Houston

"Nice location but few rooms with bathtubs"
Westin Galleria Houston has always been a great hotel to stay out. Unfortunately in their recent remodel, they took out most of their bathtubs so the Heavenly Bath is now just a shower. I was told they could not guarantee a tub. I had a reservation thru my Starwood account paying a high rate for a Sat & Sun night and asked Starwood for a full refund which they said would happen since they could not accommodate a need. I have yet to receive the refund from the hotel. I thought they were more customer oriented and understanding. I hope to see the refund soon as I really do like the hotel & their service & location.
"Great location for shopping, conference facilities very good"
The Galleria is in a great location built within the shopping mall area, you can get into the mall from levels one and three, on level three you have the daily grill restaurant. Our room was on the 12th floor a king bed room with sofa, large screen tv, bathroom with shower(no bath). Coffee and tea making facilities and fridge. The rooms are clean and comfortable. When we booked we always request allergy free rooms, however checked the bed and had to get the mattress topper and the pillows changed? So annoying when your ready for bed but have to wait for someone to come and change the bedding. We were offered the green reward for not having a our room fully cleaned daily, this has been offered before and really does not work for guests, the same as the last two hotels we stayed in during the last two weeks, we were left with no one entering our room, no bins emptied, no fresh towels, run out of toilet roll, no fresh bottled water daily! I can cope making my own bed, reusing towels and turning down my own bed which is what the green policy should be, not to be left with nothing. This needs a serious re-think? The bed was reasonably comfortable, but the sheets and blanket as well as a thin duvet do get wrapped around you, too many thin layers! Our room was quite noisy, the first two day I was desturbed by someone hammering and lifts outside the windows going up and down, had to close the curtains several times? The executive lounge for elite members was not available during our 4 night stay, but nothing was offered as a reward to replace it? Good job Starbucks was not too far away in the mall, the coffee in the room is not the best and with the lack of bottled water this Starbucks’s became a good friend. We ate once in the daily grill for breakfast, the menu had a reasonable amount of choice but with the mall on site you can get better breakfast for a lot less somewhere else. Service could be friendlier too. When we ate on the Sunday morning at 8.45 the restaurant was empty. I did complain to customer services about the lack of maid service for bins and toilet roll refill but this made no difference, 4 days and nothing! Not the service you expect from a Marriott partner hotel. The car park if you self park is free of charge, you need to park in the brown bays, valet parking is available but expensive. Drop your cases off first before parking as there is no lift and the stair well is quite smelly, alternatively you can walk through the car park to the exit. The conference facilities at the hotel are good, we were well looked after and nothing was too much trouble. Everything went to plan and would recommend.
"Standard stay—nice, nothing extraordinary, nice conveniences"
Date of stay: Jan 2018 We were here for Jump! Dance Convention and the Westin Galleria was the convention venue. This is not my first time here and I’m sure it won’t be my last, as this is a very popular venue for a convention. Location is prime, as the hotel connects to the Houston Galleria. The main Ballrooms are actually across the “mallway†so you do have to briefly leave the main part of the hotel. But other than that, the entire mall and all of the food court restaurants are right there. Parking is free in the mall garage, unless you want to valet park for $30-something per day. Another plus. There is a bit of a walk though, depending on where you park and if you make enough circles and stray far enough away from the hotel, you’ll end up entering a mall entrance and will have to walk a bit through the mall. I did this the second night—ended up parking closer to the Saks Fifth Avenue and had to push luggage through a small part of the mall. But parking is free and relatively safe and that is good. There is a fitness center, on the lower level, across the “mallway†and accessible 24/7 by key card. There were 6 treadmills, Life Fitness brand, about 4 ellipticals, 2 upright bikes and 1 recumbent. There was a small area for free weights and floorwork. Of all the big hotel chains, I find Westin’s fitness centers, on the whole, to be the best with a generous amount of machines and space, so while this fitness center was certainly good, it was not the norm for Westin. But it was definitely good enough for my purposes. Dance moms usually hit the gym right after dropping their kids off on Saturdays so as per usual the gym was busy during that time. I managed to get a treadmill but I know others ended up using alternate machines or doing free weights while waiting for a machine. Towels, a water cooler, and even ear phones were provided. Well maintained, no children running around unattended. The “Daily Grill†is the hotel restaurant and it is actually outside the hotel, right next door, so again, must enter the mall briefly. Typical overpriced hotel fare. They just recently finished a complete “refresh†of the hotel, which means that they made a lot of cosmetic changes—the old yellows, oranges and browns are now replaced with nicer neutral beiges and blues. I liked the change. Plenty of charging ports and outlets, a good updated option. Room and bathroom otherwise nice and clean and standard for a 4 star hotel. Service was relatively friendly but they all seemed focused on the large crowd in the hotel, so no real personal touch and nothing over and beyond. I did opt for the “Green Choice†where they replace your towels and change out your trash and refresh the bathroom but that’s it. You get extra rewards points for that and really, that is all we ever need. All in all, a pretty standard stay. Nothing major to complain about, and lots of good conveniences that make me want to return. Grade: A-
"Great rooms and free parking but poor welcome at the restaurant."
We throughly enjoyed our stay at Westin. The whole experience was great from arrival to departure and the access to Galleria mall is very convenient. Just go to the 3rd floor and you are right next to the Apple store. Free parking is great. Food at their restaurant (on the 3rd floor) is very good but the girl at the door was horrible (yesterday Saturday the 13th at 1pm)..... she didn't even say hello and she really didn't want to be there.
"Super friendly check in and very spacious room. Would def stay again if in Houston!"
We booked this hotel on the morning of our stay due to a sudden change of plans to stay the night in Houston due to disrupted travel plans. What a great decision it was as check in was friendly and easy. We asked for a higher floor for our room and got a large spacious room with twin queen beds for our family of 4. The room was clean and very comfortable and it's made us now think to actively choose to stay at Westin hotels from now on. The self parking was handy and being attached to Galleria Mall was fantastic. Easy to pop out for a bit of shopping and drop bags back to our room and then continue on with more shopping!
