Over State Game Lodge & Resort
De State Game Lodge is een prima uitvalsbasis voor een bezoek aan het Custer State Park. Ruige bergen omgeven de State Game Lodge.

"Cabin for Two"
We LOVED Custer State Park. So much to see and do. We spent four nights in a small cabin near the State Game Lodge. I think we had the oldest one. Outside appearance was not a good first impression. The paint on the porch was peeling off and in horrible condition. Once inside, it was actually pretty nice. Very clean and equipped with everything you would expect to find. A bit rustic, but we expected that. The maid service was one area of downfall. They never came before 3:00pm. We would do our sightseeIng in the morning and then return to rest a bit before dinner. The first day we thought they just didn’t so maid service. When they did show up, we sat outside while they quickly cleaned. Not a very good job. The second day they came even later, and we passed on having them come in. The third day we purposely stayed away, they did a very good job. Just to late in the day in our opinion. Overall, the cabin was pretty much what we expected. A simple but clean place to stay while seeing this wonderful state park.
"Bring a lock!"
Do not leave anything of value in the room. I had some things stolen from my suitcase while it was in my room. I had left everything in my suitcase with the top closed. Someone helped themselves to go thru my suitcase and stealing some brand new expensive hiking socks in the original package. I had left them on the bottom of my suitcase. So it was intentional. I would not stay at this hotel again or recommend it to anyone else because of this experience.
"We were in Shock "
After spending 3 nights up in a Sylvan Lake Lodge Corner King room, we moved to Cabins at State Game Lodge for 3 days. We could not believe our eyes upon entering, nor the lack of heat in this one room wonder!?! Yes it was cheaper, but still pricey, considering NO heat, and cabin condition. Totally unappealing with carpet pieced together in places., uncomfortable beds, dead bugs, spider webs and No heat. We went back to Front Desk, hoping another room was available. Lucky for us there was ,over at CreekSide Lodge, on the other side of State Game Lodge lawn....Front Desk would not charge us for moving. We packed up and moved as fast as we could.
"Game Lodge Campground with friendly park rangers - sleeping cabin stay"
There are 11 sleeping cabins available at Game Lodge Campground. This was the perfect option for our stay. While there are not bathrooms in these cabins, it is a small enough campground that facilities are close by. We really enjoyed the quaintness of this campground and the price. The amenities are pretty good for a small campground. There are: laundry facilities, heating, air conditioning and electricity in each cabin, a picnic table, a fire pit by each cabin (you provide the wood which is available for purchase at camp stores), a camp store about 1/4 mile away, Grace Coolidge Creek flows though the campground, and there is a fishing/swimming pond. Be aware that beds are about the only thing in these cabins at the campground, so if you're looking for a full service cabin, keep searching. Keep in mind that my "very good" rating is based on comparison to other similar lodging options. Obviously I would not compare a sleeping cabin to a 5 star resort. Draw backs: we had to provide our own sleeping linens, and cooking items, water container. The mattresses in the small cabins weren't the comfiest, but served their purpose for several nights. Check-in was not until 4 pm and check-out was noon. Check out time was fine for us, but it would have been nice to check in an hour or two earlier. Make sure you check out the programs that the park has to offer during your visit. There were several nights that movies were shown at the Tatanka Theater, Jr. Ranger Program, fishing programs, etc. The park rangers working at the campground during our stay were amazing! They not only were friendly but were open to suggestions in regards to the programs offered.
"A Historical Lodge"
Best to go off season and enjoy a historical room and a quiet meal in the lodge Great location , close to hikes, wildlife and visitors center. This is the only lodge opened later than all the others and couldn't be more comfortable
