"Excellence on the Boteti River"
There was really only one fault that we could discover when visiting Leroy la Tau. For self drivers, the signing fro the tar road is quit poor. There is an arrow, but there is no lettering on there. So if you do self drive: make sure you look out for the green/grey arrow at the beginning of the sand road! This road is sandy indeed, but fairly easy to navigate (in June, apparently in the dry season the sand gets deeper). It is straight sailing for 6,3 km and then you will get to the lodge. There is covered parking. You will be warmly greeted by (a member of) the management. All the staff are inside to enthusiastically welcome you and introduce themselves. The rooms (that are all placed with enough space in between for your privacy) are all on the river, offering great views of the NP across the water. And lots of wildlife, i.e. zebra, impala, fish eagle, hornbills etc etc. The rooms have a large deck to enjoy the view and peace and quiet. The beds are good and have mosquito netting. The rooms are decorated elegantly and are equipped with flashlight, peaceful sleep, Doom insecticide and emergency horns. Every morning after the maid service had been, we would find another complicated towel animal on the bed. Great attention to detail! The bathroom is clean and has a double basin, shower and loo. Towels and bed linnen are of good quality. In the main area, there is a pool and loungers. Meals are served in the main building, where you will also find the managers office, bar, curio shop and library with a computer with internet access. There is no wifi and no cell phone reception. The meals are good and varied and nicely presented. Soups and desserts are brought to the table, main course is served buffet style. There are lots of options and dietary wished are catered for with great care. Dinner staff, too, are extremely friendly and cheerful. Wines/drinks are plentiful and of good estates. Our guide Lasty made the experience even better. He had loads to tell about the animals and their behaviour and showed us great sightings of elephants, lions and hippos, not once losing sight of our safety. The hot water bottles and blankets on the game drives are a nice touch. Highly recommended.
"A complete Botswana experience"
I visited this camp from May 14 to 17 this year. Unusually heavy spring rains in the country this year meant that the Boteti River was full at this time and the islands were rich and green with vegetation. Both animal and birdlife was abundant but not as concentrated as it would be in the dry season. Hippo were often seen in large grounds feeding on the islands and in the surrounding water. Elephant came to drink, usually in the afternoon as did many other animals. The camp is located riverside with clear views across. You take a short boat ride across to access the land rovers and the plains. The boat rides alone gave access to many birds. During my stay, the lodge was never full and I was lucky enough to share my rides with only one person. My guide, Calvin tuned in to our interest in birds and photography immediately and provided every possible opportunity for us to have an outstanding experience. Nelson, the camp manager is beyond outstanding, and everything runs perfectly with no fuss The staff is to be commended for their efforts to meet your every need. I can't wait to return!
Just seconds after checking into this wonderful camp, we looked across the river and there was an elephant just walking along beside the river. In the distance, you could see a herd of Zebra walking down to the river for a drink. This is truly a great place to stay as the rooms are very nice and the the food and drink exceptional. Four of us stayed 3 nights. The safaris in Land Cruisers started with a 5:30 AM wakeup call and we were on our way by 6:30. We crossed the river by boat to reach the vehicles and fun began. More elephants, giraffes, springbok, steenbok, impalas, ostriches, jackals, kudus, oryx, wildebeast, puff adders, you name it. Sadly we did not see any cats, just the remnants of a recent kill. We took a long trip to the salt pans which we very interesting especially the 3000 year old Boabab trees. Our guide, Ollie, was very knowledgable about everything wild. This camp cannot be recommended enough
"Birds and Elephants"
Second visit to Leroo la Tau ,as good as first, lots more water this time .our guide Chemical was a great bird spotter topped the score from the four D&D camps we visited. Went to the village to donate some clothing to the community and stationery to the school, very interesting. Choir is the best ! food not bad either. Rooms are excellent can do a a safari from the deck. Mahindra (incredible voice) Unami Hannah and all the team looked after us wonderfully.
We were really looking forward to visiting Leroo La Tau as we had heard so much about it on a previous visit to Botswana. The lodge is in a great location overlooking the Boteti river and the rooms overlook the river as well. We were lucky to have all the zebras still visiting the river. The rooms have a great outlook and a clean but not luxurious. We had a double bed and a single bed in our room which made it a little tight for space. The staff were all very friendly and caring. Our guide Ollie was excellent and as with all the guides would see things that no one else would see and point them to us.
