Over Matamanoa Island Resort
Verder is iedereen vanaf 16 jaar welkom.

Bird noises at night are a major issue. Sound like crying babies. Large number of black birds all around the bure making a lot of noise. Had a couple of sleepless nights. Lovely place in the day but the birds make it impossible to sleep. Also some other issues like drapes that are worn out or don't close.
"25th Wedding anniversary (Richard and Junea)"
After a great deal of research into this island and other destinations ,I can honestly say this ticked all the boxes in so many ways. This was a surprise holiday for my wife, and apart from knowing she was going on holiday the destination was unknown ,I really do not know where to start but would like to enlighten revue readers to some of the previous negative revues,They are in my opinion totally unjustified and appear to want to blame someone else for their short comings regards to research and planning and at the end of the day it is a lot of money you are going to spend so make sure you get it right . RESORT Fantastic and just like the pictures without being pretentious, within a very short time and I mean minutes you will be chilling and relaxing to the sound of waves and well maintained and clean resort. ROOMS Beachfront Bure on the sunset side we could not fault ,small fridge with ice tray full tea and ground Fiji coffee making area with sink replenished daily ,along with flowers on the bed and nightly turn down service . Great aircon (but remember to turn led off at night by remote as it does throw a lot of light out ) Bali hut and pool are a must and the outside shower is great after coming out of the sea, Occasionally you my wake up with a bit of a fright as coconuts do fall on the roof and they are loud ! But better on the roof than your head I say.) I was going to book a villa when I first looked into this island but I guess its a matter of preference ,most of the villas are on sunrise side and I don't think the snorkelling and the beach is as good that side and apart from split level ,a touch bigger and perhaps a little more private there really is not much in it ,also worth remembering is it is a fair bit further to walk at the end of the night but the exercise will probably do you good. FOOD Now there has been a very mixed bag of revues regarding this subject ,but here is mine.I have been a Chef for many years although I am no longer one now I worked for Hilton ,Holiday Inn ,Copthorne and cooking for some of the top airlines as well as P&O and found the food and choice to be excellent for the remoteness of this island ,my wife is not a massive fish lover and was concerned it was all going to be fish ,but I checked out the menu before leaving and chicken and steak as well as other dishes and all cooked and presented beautifully .We stayed for seven nights and did not get bored with the variety . When we arrived we immediately went for the half board and this is a very flexible way to go ,We had cooked breakfast although the choice for breakfast is more than plentiful if you choose not too ,and half board gets you 3 course evening meal,or lunch and evening meal ,like I said it really depends on how you want it to work ,and as for the portions more than adequate unless you are used to American portions. CORAL REEF I have done diving in the past but the reef is on your doorstep. There was some comments of totally dead reef but as my pictures depicted it is definitely thriving . Yes the cyclone did a lot of damage and it is recovering very well and you will see this if you only snorkel the shallows straight off the beach but if you follow the drop off you are in for a treat. My wife with life jacket borrowed from dive centre as well as snorkel and fins came out with me one day and I took her to the drop off and swam for about an hour and what an hour it was black and white tip reef sharks (they are fine and wont bother you)as well as turtles ,truly a bucket list experience straight off the beach ,it made her holiday even the clown fish colony was amazing. SPA What a fantastic location amongst the hill top and trees listening to the waves. Superb staff and very accomodating RESORT STAFF We have left the best until last,Honestly they were more like family and made our holiday complete and left us with a tear in our eye as we said goodbye. Bula,Bula Bula here are a few of the friends who stood out for us the most ,apologies for any missed ,but we are sending a package from Australia as a small token of our appreciation of making our holiday so special to be distributed amongst all the staff,so here goes JOE top bar man and nothing is too much trouble ,we miss you mate. SAI another top bar man the smiler ELLIE our waitress and married to Sai(what a great couple) KELERA our favourite waitress with a smile as big as her heart, we miss you honey SEKO jack of all trades ,is there nothing this man can't do .Thanks for the coconuts MINI our captain to castaway (thanks for not leaving us there) CARROLINE reception nothing too much trouble NETT our top salad chef great job JOE our very friendly Carvery chef ADI what a lovely lady Guitars and singers SPEECHLESS keep up the good work guys will be asking for Sail on by Lionel Ritchie when we return next year so plenty of time to practice. My wife would like to say a very special thank you to the girls in the spa for her lovely experience Housekeeping ,gardeners, maintenance some of the nicest people you are likely to meet. It's worth mentioning though that you can be as private or as social as you choose to be and will be respected accordingly, but also you will get far better experience with some positive feedback for all their hard work . TRANSFERS Helicopter there by island Hoppers is the only way to go .From landing at Nadi to having cold fruit juice and chilled towels and our feet in the sand in all under an hour its the only way to go not to mention the views, and if you think its a bit pricey think again ,your options are speed boat about same price ,and you still need to get to Marina ,water taxi which is a slow boat to china no ac or toilets or South Seas cruises (very good we used for our return ) but bear in mind depending on what time you flight arrives you may not be going that day ,our flight arrived from Brisbane at 3.30p.m so it may mean overnight stay in Denarau and then the boat so you will lose a day .We paid about $350 (australian$)each for the transfer and that was being met at the airport, our bags being taken care of all the way beautiful ac waiting room with free drinks and on our particular transfer our own helicopter as no one else was traveling with us . CONCLUSION This has to be the longest review I have ever done but so deserves it .ignore the negative reviews and get yourself there you wont be disappointed .We think it was money very well spent for what you got total R&R with memories that will last you a life time. And to the management and staff of matamonoa island a very big BULA and VINAKA you should be proud of what you have achieved and my wife and I will see you next Year Lots of hugs from your friends Richard and Junea xxxxx
Where to start? We arrived by the public boat - 1 1/2 hours but quite comfortable, but be ready to get your feet wet getting off the boat onto the Island. We returned by express boat - just the 4 of us + 4 crew in a fast boat - 50 mins and quite bumpy. Third option is the helicopter - quick but expensive. Lovely rooms, but make sure you go for a beach bure - nice big room, sitting area, sink, comfy bed, modern bathroom, great splash pool (warm), outside shower and day bed. You have direct access to the beach, and the coral reef. One highlight for us was snorkelling around the reef at low tide - just wonderful. Staff were lovely. Food good, including new innovation of a beach bar b Q. Highly recommended!
"Matamanoa island is stunning!!"
What a relaxing, magical place to stay. We had a wonderful time. Awesome people, great beach, great snorkelling. It was a perfect holiday! We had a garden bure. It was just steps away from the beach but when we go next time we are going to book and beach bure. The view is right to the ocean and it offers a dipping pool and an outside lounge bed. I hated to leave. Can't say enough.
"Beautiful Island, Wonderful People"
What a place! Pulling up to Matamanoa is akin to pulling up into a postcard. The island is simply gorgeous, and the common areas of the resort that meet you leave no choice but to take a deep breath and enjoy the phenomenal decision you made to end up there. My wife and I recently stayed at Matamanoa for 4 nights to start off our honeymoon, and elected to stay in a garden room in order to upgrade at our next resort. The room itself was very practical, but with just a front patio and the desire to keep the shutters closed for privacy and temperature regulation, we found little desire to spend much time there- which is perfectly fine when Fiji is outside. We did hang out in a beachfront burre for a while with new friends, and with the plunge pool, daybed, and view centric layout, we were missing out on some peaceful relaxation time by opting for the garden room. The one qualm with the beachfront burres is regarding privacy. They are well thought out and designed, but it is certainly not seclusion, but you shouldn't really be expecting that anyhow. The real treat of Matamanoa, however, is the people. I can't speak highly enough of the staff, who genuinely felt like family after our 5 days there. Each employee we met always met us with a smile and a greeting, and more than that, with the desire to get to know us- if that is what you want. We had great conversations with many of them and we had never felt so welcomed as we did there. I can honestly say that we will strive to go back there just to visit with them again. Do keep in mind however, that you get out what you put in. So if you want a more private trip with your travel partner, they are happy to take care of you with minimal interaction as well. Now my only complaint with the resort is the pricing of the food. It is highly overpriced for what you receive, period. I certainly understand the dynamics of provisions an competition when you're on an island, but the portions and quality of the entrees were nowhere near justified in their price. For such a genuine resort, I wish they would take less advantage of their situation and charge reasonably. One evening, I ordered the coconut prawns for around $20USD, and received 4 medium shrimp sized prawns. It was simply price gouging and aggravating, especially considering the next resort we stayed at charged about the same for food and provided world class meals. All that being said, they are and island and a resort and are free to charge as they see fit and justified, but for my experience it was a bit extreme. But a few dollars here and there should not dissuade you from visiting this incredible resort, and from going diving with Trev and Em. We got our PADI Open Water certification with them and can not recommend them highly enough. Check out their own reviews under Deep Blue Diving and Water Sports.
