"Great family resort"
On arrival greeted with fantastic friendly staff. Reception was effortless explaining the resort an greeted with a smile. We where taken by buggy by a very happy guy to our room down at Ocean view rooms. We had lovely spacious room an balcony with view of the sea. Good size bathroom. We where there for a wedding an large group of us so at breakfast an other meals the staff in resturants where so helpful in seating us together where they could. The entertainment was awesome especially the three guys singing that moved around the resort. There is also adults only pool area. The main pool area has lots of loungers an umbrellas. There is also a beautiful adults pool area. We loved every minute of our stay. Thank you to all the team at outrigger.
We are a family of four with two grown daughters. We arrived at Nadi Airport after a 10 hour flight only to find the transport we had arranged and confirmed by email with the hotel was not there to meet us. Not a good start. After waiting at the airport for some time a helpful lady from Fiji Tourism (?) introduced us to a hire car operator who sometimes worked for Outrigger. He was due to meet another flight but kindly contacted Outrigger and they agreed to let him make alternative transport arrangements for us. After about an hour and a half journey, and not in the best of moods we arrived at the hotel only to be told that I had not arranged an airport pick up ,in spite of me showing them an email to the contrary, and to add insult to injury we were then informed our rooms were not ready. Again, I was able to show them an email asking for an early check in on one room and stating that if this could not be done, I was happy to pay for an extra night. Obviously, the contents of this email,as with the airport pick up email, appears to have been completely overlooked. It gets worse though. We were then informed we could "go downstairs and rest on the couches" in the lower foyer and wait until our rooms were ready for occupation ! I was meanwhile asked to go the Cashier area of the desk to register my credit card etc and here I was shown a room rate that was significantly higher than the one I had booked online. Again, I had to resort to my computer and dig out an email showing them the room rate I had contracted for. By this time I was fuming but was unable to find anyone to vent my anger as the Reception staff seemed to be working at a snail's pace, dealing with other guests, either that or they were deliberately avoiding me. When I eventually tracked down the Duty Manager she did little to address my complaints other than to inform me that one of our rooms would "soon by ready." At no stage was I offered any sort of apology or explanation for the shoddy service we received and whilst in spite of this, we enjoyed our week long stay in Fiji, we were very disappointed with this hotel.
"Left after 4 days due to boredom, screaming kids everywhere and expensive. "
We were supposed to stay at the outrigger for 8 days but found on the 4th day it was boring and decided to move to the Sofitel in Nadi. Thought it would be easier to write pros and cons. Pro’s: - Beautiful resort, looks new and very clean. pool is nice for the kids and the adults only pool is nice aswell quite big but not huge, no slide or any extras just a normal pool - adults only space allowed to get away from the hundreds of screaming kids - sundowner bar and grill was lovely with a nice view, great strawberries and cream martini and delicious garlic prawns, however kids everywhere screaming and running amuck -room was lovely with beach view and great sized king bed, bathroom seemed new but only had shower over bath that was very thin and hard to move around in - check in was fast and a complementary drink and towel given, although It looked like coke was gross bitter ice tea - bacon at buffet breakfast was awesome and could get an omelette made for you with limited ingrediants - 1000 Fijian tab was included in our deal with my Fiji so at the end there was not much left to pay - Rosie holidays tour desk lady was lovely and organised our go dirty quad bike tour quickly although it was so expensive - room service attendant was lovely and had a smile when he brought food - check out was quick and the guys at the taxi bay were so lovely Con’s: - In the middle of no where, 1.5 hour drive from the airport - restaurants in the hotel are expensive and all require a booking however are mostly empty. An average dinner for 2 people we found was around $150-200 Fijian with just 1 main each and a drink. - only a few restaurants close by to the resort, beach bar down the road was nice but still expensive for not a lot of food and the local people said the food elsewhere was okay but not great and reviews on trip advisor agreed - went to a food shop on the way back from a tour in nadi to buy snacks and found only pringles and soft drink everything else was Fijian food and meats - all tours are in Nadi and take 1.5 hours to get there so takes time out of the day travelling - buffet breakfast is average, most mornings when we were taken to our table it had no cutlery and food scraps on the table or chairs, had to then walk over and find cutlery, water jug was never full and had to always walk over and wait for them to refill it. Juices tastes like store bought artificial stuff - cocktails at the pool and the adults only pool tasted different every time you ordered the same cocktail and were just mixed together with random ingrediants not listed on the menu, I ordered a midori and Malibu illusion and got a red slushy with midori in it and when I asked if I got the right drink they said yes. Very odd as it’s the easiest drink to make - one our first day we had 2 bath robes in the room, the next day they were gone, when I called to get 2 new ones sent to us, 2 hours passed, i called again and another hour passed and then someone brought 1 robe up, for a room with 2 people in it. After that I just couldn’t be bothered. - the mini bar was so ridiculous, $9 for water and $10 for a packet of pringles - went to the store in the hotel to buy water for 6 bottles cost $32 - then got charged for one at reception when checking out as they thought it was from the mini bar but couldn’t be bothered arguing - adults only area was on other side of resort and every day every chair was taken, we had to sit on little couches that barely fit two people and couldn’t stay long. - at 7am on one of our last days a woman knocked loudly on our door, when we ignored thought she had wrong room she knocked again louder so I opened and it was a staff member asking if our mini bar needed refilling. Like seriously how is that professional at 7am - once again children screaming, banging drums near the pool which was near our room and parents who don’t care what they do - when we wanted to go to the beach to snorkel which was the reason they say stay on the coral coast they said you can only go in at high tide which is 5pm when it is getting darker and colder so bit annoying - couldn’t find anywhere to rent jet ski’s or Watersport stuff so don’t think they have that available. - staff were nice at reception, and at restaurants but at buffet in the mornings were cranky and shoved a paper at you to write your room number and then said nothing as you stumble forward to find a table - limited fruit options such as pineapple, watermelon, brown bananas and some papaya. Thought there would be more options for a 5 Star Resort in Fiji - any time you want water it is 5-10 Aussie dollars as you can’t drink from the tap and they like to withhold this until you get the bill - Thai butler that was supposed to come at 5pm every day with drinks and canapes only came maybe 2 times in 5 days, all we got was 2 cans of coke and inedible canopies of chicken sushi and weird tandoori chicken on cake, so gross and didn’t offer to un pack our bags out recommend tours like stated -room service food was okay, soup was not soup and more like noodles, chicken wings and hot chips were the best bet and sometimes the club sandwich although sometimes it was good, sometimes terrible - they take an 800 deposit from you at check in which at check out we had to request to be refunded and 1 day later still have not got it back I personally stayed at the outrigger in Hawaii and loved it but the Fijian outrigger just doesn’t live up to the 5 start rating and we are now enjoying the Sofitel much more and it’s location so glad we moved! If you have kids and don’t want to leave the hotel and don’t mind travelling far then the outrigger is for you, but if your used to 5 Star amazing hotels, don’t like screaming children, don’t want to pay ridiculous amounts of money on little things and like good cocktails, than the outrigger is not for you.
"Great Place to Unwind"
Enjoyable stay made all the better by the friendly staff. The dining experience at Ivi restaurant is a "must do". We can recommend the "garden tour" and the "behind the scenes tour". The adults only pool was a great go to place to escape the family friendly pool where all the kids seemed to have so much fun. Lots of dining choices, although some were better than others.
"Staff extremely friendly, management below standard."
Room and staff beyond compare. Truly beautiful. My concern is that majority of trip was ruined by diarrhoea as was the case for many guests. After seeing a cleaner prepare to clean the room next door after the guest was sick with vomiting and diarrhoea there was no gloves used putting not only guests at risk but his family when he returned home. My partner and I suggested that he wear gloves and that the mop head be changed prior to cleaning the next room (ours). This never occurred and clearly there was no education provided to employees regarding prevention. The shop onsite could barely keep up with the request for Imodium and this surely would indicate that perhaps an alert could be issued or the availability of antibacterial hand gel for both guests and employees. I saw no evidence of this at all. Upon return I emailed twice with suggestions to prevent a similar outbreak in the future and received NO reply.
