"Sometimes perfection has imperfections...."
Viwa experience was amazing. The whole adventure shifts into Indiana Jones at Sea territory once you step foot at the seaplane to get to the resort. This resort is a little farther away from mainland, so you don't see other establishments around and there is less human containment. The huts are comfortable, albeit a little dark. The shower / restroom area could have been done better. Food is good, not spectacular, but good enough. The crew is made of local villagers who are essentially the owners of the island. Tourists are their guests. They share their culture and values with the guests and invite them to participate in their way of life. And this is not done to entertain people, but to truly educate and include them (singing, dancing, rituals etc). So it is a very authentic and genuine experience. You need to appreciate the importance of mutual respect and nuances of different cultures to fully enjoy what is going on. If you are expecting white glove servants to do thy bidding as in Four Seasons you are missing the point. If you are also expecting ultra seasoned hotel operators as crew, again, probably will be disappointed. In other news, beach sports is great. Kayaking in the lagoon is an absolute joy in sunset. There is OK snorkeling around the island, but not the best. Diving is spectacular though. Roy, the diving director and co-owner of property is a ball of fun and absolutely on top of things. Diving boat is often not crowded so the experience feels like you have your personal boat. Dive operation, from a process stand point, has room for improvement but the advantages overshadow the disadvantages. Dive sites are pristine and beautiful. Overall, it is hard to describe why Viwa experience is five stars but it is. It is so unique and beautiful and authentic, despite numerous pot holes here and there. It is like driving a beautiful italian car, it might not be perfect, but the experience is.
We stayed at Viwa resort for 6 nights and it greatly exceeded our expectations. If you want a holiday to relax at a beautiful beach with really blue water, either reading a book, listening to music or watching a movie on your tablet, then this is the place to visit. Dont bother with the other resorts. We booked a holiday looking for total relaxation away from the crowds and Viwa Island did not disappoint. No children means absolute peace and quite for the entire period and there are only 11 bure's so there arent many people either. Rooms are great with sunchairs on your private deck. There are also 2 sunchairs per bure with huge bamboo umbrellas on the soft white sandy beach so you are guaranteed a chair in the shade (no fighting for best sunchair positions and this was important to us). We were so appreciative of this. Clear blue water with complimentary kayaks, paddle boards and snorkel gear means you can do this anytime you wish. The food is of an exceptional quality, far better than any of the so-called 5 star resports on Denarau island. To the chef we extend our thanks and enjoyment of your food. The staff are one of the main appealing factors. Its so personalised, they look after you all the time and so friendly with fantastic service.....we cant praise them enough, for they made our holiday treuly awesome. There are many organised activities which are totally optional but you can easily fill your day. You can walk out of your bure onto the very private beach and snorkel. There are many fish and beautiful coral within 10 meteres of the beach and i even saw a small squid! This resort should be given absolute consideration if you are going to Fiji or if you are looking for a peaceful holiday at a private beach resort. You should notice that most people give it 5 stars on trip advisor which is an accurate rating. Lauren and Darren
"Amazing wedding in Viwa"
We were blown away by the service we received from the team at Viwa and local villagers. We stayed at Viwa a year earlier and as parents, loved that there were no kids. Just the best place to relax. So we chose to go back to get married and booked well in advance. Everything was arranged for us so the wedding day itself was perfect. We were lucky enough to be allowed to get married in the local church with a choir. Nothing was stressful and the ceremony was authentic and beautiful. We had bubbles waiting for us upon return, an amazing beach dinner with guitarists and even a surprise cake came out! The band did an amazing job of covering one of our favourite songs - the whole day was awesome and we were made to feel very special. We then go to relax in the sun for a few more days and even though the sea planes had some issues, Viwa came to the party to get us to our flight home by sorting an impromptu helicopter. Thank you Viwa and Sheung. You guys are amazing! I can't recommend you enough and we will be returning soon!
My husband and I spent an idyllic week at Viwa Island Resort in September to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Our first time to visit Fiji, we wished to relax and recharge from busy city life - beautiful Viwa did not disappoint! Everything is truly perfect, from the seaplane arrival with Turtle Airways, the island, the resort, staff, food and daily activities. Thank you Sheung, Akuila, Vata, Ronnie and all of Viwa's wonderful staff. Your Fiji warmth and smiling faces were an integral part if our holiday. We are looking forward to seeing you all again soon! "Best place in the world."
After travelling around the world for the last 25 years, visiting many beautiful places and also living in Cairns, Christchurch, Golden Bay and mighty Lancashire! Me and my beautiful wife Mandy decided (Mandy decided) that we were to finally go to a Fijian island without the kids. Viwa was totally beautiful and warm as were all the staff and management. There is plenty of free activities to do, snorkeling, great walks, real fijian villages but also no pressure to do any of them. We have never had such a wonderfully relaxing holiday. Viwa island now feels like it is my Island and i cannot wait to get back. Dave Driver
