Over Intercontinental Moorea

"Not What Is Advertised"
The overwater bungalows at Intercontinental are NOT overwater. There are actually only 3. The rest are actually on land with the back balcony hanging over the bay or ocean. It gets worse. If you get the bungalows that face the ocean, they are very nice. However, if you get the "overwater" bungalows at the back of the lagoon, you have no view, you sit on stagnant water, and you look a the back of somebody else's bungalow. Its very disappointing when you expect a quality bungalow. If you go there, your travel agent must insist/guarantee one of their "real" overwater bungalows or get a semi-overwater on the outer edges by the ocean. However, I would recommend the Hilton overwater bungalows as they are much prettier and exactly what you would expect. You will be much happier. The diving was excellent and the dive instructor very helpful/great guy. Snorkeling is very good around the resort. The snorkel/private island lunch trip with shark/ray experience is excellent but the Hilton does the same trip. The Hilton overwater bungalow is by far superior. As you can tell, I got the bungalow at the back of the lagoon. It was a bad experience, ruining that part of our 30th anniversary trip. Fortunately, the Sofitel Private Island in Bora Bora and the Le Tahhaa Resort in Tahaaa were stunning and made up for it. It is very risky to go the Intercontinetal. You could get junk.
"Beautiful, expensive, and needs some customer service help"
We stayed here for 4 nights. It is beautiful place and location. Pools are a bit small, lagoon is wonderful to snorkel and paddle board in. But the customer service is lousy. I specifically became an Ambassador member for this trip because I was staying here, but it was pretty worthless if you ask me. Even as a Platinum Ambassador I was not recognized and no special treatment. Also, very expensive. Drinks average around 15-20 at the swim up bar. I would recommend happy hour from 4:30-5:30. If possible do a beach or overwater bungalow. Expect to love the location and environment but don't expect much in service and be ready to shell out a lot of money.
"Nice for an overnight while passing through"
We stayed just one night routing back from Bora Bora to Europe, and it was excellent. Chilling out by the pool, Happy Hour (somewhat limited choice of cut price HH drinks!). The room was fine, and a beautiful setting. Hotel not the newest. Service was exemplary. We got a taxi into Papeete and went in search of food, drinks, etc, and the town is well worth a visit to sample the casual street eating options and bars. A small town though with a population of 19,000, and well worth visiting Again, prices in Papeete are so high!!!
"Not to helpful, little bit of a Nickle n Dime feeling. "
We have stayed on other hotels in this island that make you feel more welcome. The constant up selling gets tiring on an island vacation. We will not be staying here again, rather move on and check out the other resorts. Service was not as amazing as other hotels, front desk not too helpful. I wish we could leave a better review because the location deserves better.
"Lost in Translation"
You might think by our review title that we were unhappy with our stay at the IC Moorea - but much to the contrary. We loved our stay, but will caution that if you visit from the states much of what you ask for/order will be lost in translation. All that being said, we really loved it there. Here are a few points that you need to know. 1.) Its a beautiful resort, BUT it is showing its age in the bungalows. They were older and definitely showing wear, especially in the bathrooms. That being said, its a good as you will get on Moorea. All three resorts in this class (Sofitel, Hilton, IC) are all clustered around the same quality. 2) The Tahitian people are lovely, friendly and want desperately to help in any way but they lack the execution of a top line resort. For example, we rented a sailboat one day and a provided the concierge with the email confirmation to book our transfer to the boat. When we were dropped off at an out of the way beach I refused to leave the cab, knowing we were not at the docks we were supposed to have been dropped at. After much back and forth and showing the driver the same email, she called yelling at the concierge since they had sent her 10 miles out of the way and almost cost us our boat ride. We also often ordered food that was no resemblance to what we thought we had ordered. Again, all these are minor distractions to what is quite literally the most beautiful island in the world. And while the resort lacks the high end features we later found at the Four Seasons, it is delighted laid back, charming, and good enough to thoroughly enjoy a vacation there. The final note is 3.) The food on Moorea, more or less is nothing spectacular. Even the gourmet dinner we enjoyed the night before we left was left than spectacular. There are some little places around the hotel that are good in their own right - don't expect a lot from the lunches or dinners at the IC. The breakfast however was a different subject. It was fabulous. In fact, I think better than the one we had at the Four Seasons. Likewise, the IC pool and beach areas were also lovely - not spectacular - but very good. Its a 4 star solid resort and I would go back, anytime.
