"Great hotel but..."

   26-05-2017
We stayed here for our honeymoon and as a gift my parents upgraded us to an Overwater Bungalow. There's a lot for me to write so I'm going to bullet point it. Good: -Bungalow was quiet, had great aircon, deck was sheltered from the wind and the covered area was handy when it rained. -Grounds were tidy, maintained and easy to navigate -Pool was nice -1 hour kayak, or SUP, hire for free which we did. Put the heavier person in the back as it makes it easier to steer. -We hired our snorkel gear all week, for free, so we could snorkel from our deck but I saw a lot of couples with their own masks which is a better idea. -If you forget everything but one item make sure it's an underwater camera. -Breakfast was great, a variety of items and the egg station, when manned by a woman whose name I can't remember, is amazing! -If you want decent service at the restaurant or bar look for the waiter/waitresses wearing black, they gave the best service -The dinner show was average, the food variety was good. We were inside for the show because of the weather, if it's going to be inside don't go. There are poles in the way and you don't get a clear view of the stage. I think it would be a lot better when it's out on the beach. -The shell restaurant was amazing. Service was the best restaurant service we had all trip. Food was amazing too. Definitely recommend going! Bad: -Service was shocking. The 'waitresses' at the pool bar were slow, uninterested, and one was incredibly rude. If we wanted another drink we had to go up to the bar as they didn't come back to check, they just stood around talking. Any interaction with them at the bar came across to us as an inconvenience. Numerous times we sat down then had to go up and get menus or order as they just didn't care. -Restaurant service wasn't much better. We were seated and waited 15 minutes for someone to take our drinks order and as we had our food order ready to go they said they'd send someone over to take it. -Don't bother with the swim up bar. They don't seem to remember it's there so getting someone to take your drink order let alone make and give you your drink is painful. -Meals were average and overpriced. I know you get overpriced food in a resort and we were prepared for that but when you have crap service as well it makes it worse. Seafood options were limited. -If you get asked if you want water at your table be prepared to pay for it. If you don't drink it all, take it back to your room! -Cocktails cost me NZ $20 for a non-alcoholic and almost $40 for alcohol. My husbands beer cost him NZ$12 for a glass, not a handle. -Banana smoothies are banana and berry so beware of that too. -Check in and out is slow. They have 2 people checking out non IHG members, it's hot and the drinks they offer are warm. Concierge can't help with you finding out your room bill during your stay so be prepared to wait. The check in times don't seem to matter as they check people in all day and it takes a long time. -On one particularly windy day they closed the pool bar even though it's 3 sided. When we asked at the bar in reception, which never seemed to be open, we were told it was closed because it was windy. We weren't offered a seat at the bar inside for drinks so I don't know if that was open. We wanted lunch so we ended up ordering room service. -The restaurant fare hana has the same lunch and dinner menu. Tips: -Request for your mini bar to be emptied before arriving, or do what we did and put everything above. It is taped shut so make sure you check every item is there as sometimes they don't replace items and you get charged -Go to the shop across the road for drinks and snacks, they are much much cheaper. They have items to make sandwiches. They sell alcohol cheaper than the resort but buy alcohol duty free before arriving. -Buy your pearls across the road too. way cheaper, GST free and they are family owned and farm their own pearl so there isn't a huge markup. -Take snacks from home, again cheaper. -Eat at the steak house across the road. OMG it's all amazing, food, price, service, view and the variety is perfect. I'm disappointed we found it on our last night. -Use the concierge to book dinner for you at the local restaurants, they won't offer but if you ask they will do it. All places have courtesy vans and most will be cheaper than the resort. -There were a lot of Americans on the island so a tip for them-don't tip unless its amazing. It's not expected there but there is a space for it on the receipt. We didn't tip once, I got better service on our flight over. Overall I was disappointed. I've stayed at the Sofitel before and found it friendlier and service to be better. Based on this experience and the amount of money we spent for what we received I won't be returning to Tahiti, I'd rather spend the same amount in Hawaii where service is way better and it doesn't cost as much, even at the resorts.

"Sooooooo! nice"

This was the first hotel of our Costco Package and I wish that we could have stayed longer. Our bungalow was spacious, the bed was comfortable and the deck was big and half of it is covered. We could jump off our deck and snorkel which was wonderful. The staff were ALL friendly and polite. We were about a 15 min walk form the restaurants so all we had to do was call and they would come pick us up on a golf cart and take us back. AND THEY WERE PROMPT. I loved that if someone told you they were going to do something they did it and in record time. We had issues with the electricity (not their fault) the electrician came in record time and fixed it for us. We rented an adapter from the front desk and when we left my husband asked if he could buy it and they said yes ($12) as we were going to Bora Bora and did not want to have the same problem. The food at this resort is wonderful the show were great we could not have asked for any better. If i had it to do all over i would stay a week there and a week at the Bora Bora Pearl Beach Resort. Moorea is a beautiful island it is prettier than Bora Bora, But Bora Bora has a beautiful lagoon. I wish they could pick this resort up and put in Bora Bora that would be the perfect vacation. Thank you Intercontinental for a wonderful 3 days, this was our trip of a life time and it was perfect

"Relaxing Week"

Spent 7 nights at this resort. Excellent facilities and weather. The staff are outstanding in all aspects. we thought language would be a difficulty but everyone seemed to speak both french and English along with tahitian . The food was great with a wide range catering for all tastes. The breakfasts were good and the buffets on entertainment nights were amazing. The water-sport facilities cater to most needs and certainly provided a relaxing way to spend some time. The grounds are beautiful and every day there seems to be a fresh blooming of flowers. Our room was upstairs overlooking both the pool and beach. Very comfortable and spotless. The balcony was a great place to relax and watch the magnificent sun-sets. Would love to return for a longer stay

"Exceeded our expectations!"

We had the pleasure of staying three nights and had a wonderful time. The staff was outstanding and the property is beautiful. We had taken some time in reviewing their site maps and requesting a specific room. Our homework paid off and we were able to get an OTW (over the water) bungalow in the 600 series. Based on our visit units 607-610 have some of the best views and privacy. Additionally they had some of the best snorkeling opportunities off the dock as they were either over or near some of the limited coral that is in the lagoon and home to a variety of fish. Our only surprise was that these units didn't have the "glass floor" or "glass table" that allows you to look at fish beneath the unit. We have had those in other properties in Tahiti.  It’s a good idea to look for hotel packages that include meals as food in Tahiti and especially in the more upscale properties is expensive, and depending on the location of the property – alternate eating establishments and/or stores that sell food may be few and far between. We would also suggest you take a laptop, DVD's and/or some board games as there is little to do in terms of entertainment at night (the rooms did not have DVD players). Also, check your cellular plan. Our cell provider (Verizon) did not offer any “plans” for French Polynesia, so calls are $3.00 per minute. We opted to bring some small inexpensive walkie talkies for communicating around the resort. The resort is beautiful with two pools and a swim up bar. Beach activities include free use of kayaks and snorkeling equipment. Our only caution regarding this property is to watch out for the golf carts at night. The staff tended to drive a bit fast!

"intercontinental hotel"

   23-05-2017
this hotel lives up to the Intercontinental reputation however appeared a bit older than the one in Tahiti. we were two senior women traveling together and requested 2 beds, but were given a bungalow more suited to a couple. it had one queen bed, a little private pool and deck but was so surrounded by close in vegetation that had no view. felt a little confined. If I were to go again, would request a bungalow closer to the water. book your room to include at least the breakfast. it will save you a ton in this quite pricey area. buffet breakfast is $41 per person
