Over Manava Suite Resort Tahiti

"Modern, convenient, pleasant"

   23-02-2017
After spending a month on Moorea, we needed a change and spent the night on Tahiti. We researched various places that were considerably higher and had low expectations for this place. Boy, were we wrong! Pleasant staff, good wifi, nice bar with bar food that hit the spot with happy hour for some drinks 6-7 pm. Room facing the road was noisier than the pool side. Great bed, bathroom with a tub and shower Delightful pool, great views Of Moorea, pleasant and efficient staff

"Great layover hotel"

   22-02-2017
After spending 5 days in an exquisite resort in Bora Bora, this busy hotel is an excellent place to ease back into reality. The infinity pool is huge and from the pool bar, you can enjoy a breathtaking sunset over the ocean. The hotel is clean and the Lagoon view room is comfortable. We would definitely recommend this hotel, especially when you have to wait 15 hours for your connecting flight back to LAX.

"So much potential undermined by inconsistent training of front line people"

   22-02-2017
Manava is great as a transit hotel if you are on your way to the outer islands. It is a template for French Polynesian tourism. I'll explain what I mean. Polynesian culture is a wonderful concept. Whether it's Hawaii, Samoa, Maori or Fiji, I have an abiding respect for these people. They show more generosity in sharing the beauty and serenity of where they live than I would be prepared to do. They are unfailingly polite, caring, considerate and have a great value system that we could all learn from. The fly in the ointment is international tourism. Hotel operators from other countries set up resorts, employ the locals because of their qualities but don't always give them the facilities or the training to follow through. There were some aspects of that at Manava. The first visit was good, before I went on to the outer islands. The return stay was a bit patchier. I am a rather unfit, middle-aged woman with arthritis who had spent 3 weeks on Rangiroa and Tikehau with no air-conditioning, scuba diving for the first time in 4 years and generally a bit knackered. Manava has room service, a bath, air con and all the little luxuries that a spiritually fulfilled but physically battered traveller needed before returning to "civilisation." I have been planning to go into stand-up comedy as a future life direction, being too decrepit to work physically and not wanting to scrape by on a disability pension. The second stay at Manava provided plenty of material. The bath plug was defective so the luxurious soak was confined to 10 cms of water. The toilet roll holder was broken and the racket it made falling onto the floor would have made things very messy if I hadn't already completed my ablutions. There was no ash tray (yes, I know it's a filthy habit, but it's legal, my choice and think how much I'm saving the taxpayer because I'll die a lot quicker and earlier.) The mini-bar and room service were an interesting concept. I speak workable French but telephones defeat communication between people who don't always have the same first language. After 3 weeks of eating fish, I was craving a cheeseburger, which arrived promptly and was delicious. Getting the mini bar stocked, or something to drink was a whole new ball game. Remember, I have arthritis, had had more exercise in 3 weeks than in the previous 3 months and had no painkillers. I wanted to treat myself with a sufficient quantity of drinkies to kill the pain and get a really good night's sleep so I ordered a bottle of Taitinger Rose champagne; I got a bottle of rose from Rangiroa (a good drop but nowhere near as much profit for the resort.) This was after 2 hours and several phone calls to room service before I gave up and called Reception, explained my plight and had the situation resolved. By that stage I was tipping the room service people because they looked so stressed and were probably assuming that I was some sort of postal, menopausal alcoholic who shouldn't be approached without a bottle of wine and a corkscrew in full view. That pretty much sums up customer service in French Polynesia: a dichotomy between French indifference (while supplying brilliant food and wine) with the Polynesian desire to please but within a context that they can't always cope with. The surrealism of it all has me in stitches but I'm not the average traveller and I prefer the interesting experience to the beige and mundane any day. All I know is that I am now seeking a chubby-chasing, retired osteopath, who owns a yacht and wants a crazy old broad as company, to sail the islands, eat the good food I can cook, laugh till our stomach muscles spasm, dive the waters and take wildlife pictures to die for. Tahiti may not be perfect for the Travel Diva, but I love the place and its contradictions and will defend it to my last breath.

"Excellent!"

   21-02-2017
We had a lay over here at the end of our trip and these were easily the nicest rooms we stayed in all trip. You don't get the views that you would have in Moorea or Bora Bora but this is an excellent choice and close to the airport if you are using it for your layover evening to and from French Polynesia.

"Layover to Bora Bora"

   20-02-2017
This was unintentional stay due to us missing our flight the night before. Since we knew we would be arriving late and unable to catch a flight to Bora Bora we need to find a place to spend the night. The place was clean and the bed was comfortable. We did not get a chance to see the grounds or eat at the restaurant . Did get charge a resort fee although we stayed at the hotel for 7 hours in the middle of night was kinda of annoying. The trip advisor website that we bought the hotel through said all fees paid so not sure were the fee came from. This hotel did the job for what we need which was a place to crash.
