"Amazing trip"

Our trip to Monteverde was amazing. Everyone was super helpful and friendly, especially the staff at Hotel Belmar. The accommodations and restaurant are fantastic, and they made it very easy to schedule activities prior to our arrival. All of the hikes were great, and we were able to see a great variety of wildlife, mainly because our guide Frazier was able to see things we would have missed, is incredibly knowledge about all of the plants and wildlife, and is one of the nicest people I have ever met. We also want to acknowledge Diane who helped arrange our itinerary, and Keylin and Karla in the restaurant who were super friendly and helpful. Thank you for everything!

"overpriced and overdone, but still..."

Yes, the location is fine, the staff friendly, the rooms comfortable and the food, though expensive, good. But in a city where the average monthly salary is around 500 USD, you'd expect no less from a hotel that is supposed to be THE BEST in Monteverde, offers a very flattering image of itself on it's website and charges 300 USD for a "Forrest superior room". So why am I negative ? I knew the hotel offered no TV in room and had no pool, which is OK by me. But...I am an early riser and not only do rooms offer no coffee or tea making facility, there is no one anywhere to prepare a hot drink before 6.30am. Next: our room had a double jacuzzi. Lovely. But filling it took over an hour (!) as the (luke) warm water was more dripping than flowing..Through visiting in the so called dry season, it was windy, rainy and pretty cold. Which is of course not the hotel's responsability. But when in room temperature is in low fifties (12-13 centigrade) there should be some heating, yet there is none. And therefore pretty hard to warm ourselves, or get our clothes dry. We ended up asking for a (most welcome) portable heater. Very slow in room internet, as well as service at the bar. Good healthy food, but then again, you expect quality as a meal for two, with a bottle of wine, will run to about 150 USD. I certainly would would have given the Belmar a better rating if it's website hype had not raised my expectations to a higher level. My suggestion to the owners: describe your hotel as it is (it actually is really nice and your staff is good) and not as you wish it to be.

"Outstanding Hotel!"

This is a unique hotel and truly one of the best I have ever stayed in. Concierge Diane was so helpful in arranging tours/guided hikes and the naturalist Jason was a terrific guide for our morning and nighttime hike, both of which I recommend. Diane was incredibly responsive, even e mailing me with suggestions while she was on vacation. I was pleasantly surprised that it was only a $5 cab ride into the cute town of Monteverde. We loved Monteverde! Not easy to get to but definitely worth a visit for couples and families. I regret we couldn't stay longer than two nights because the hotel offers so much-dairy tour, spa, free yoga classes. The juice bar was reasonably priced and a treat for my two teens and the restaurant was very good. All staff was very pleasant. Our room was upgraded at no extra cost. Had a wonderful room on the 3rd floor of the chalet building, in the trees, and with a wrap around deck and its own jacuzzi. I look forward to visiting again.

"Gorgeous Bouquet hotel with stunning wood work"

I think all the rooms face the mountain views. The entire hotel has an old Swiss hotel feel, the wood work is gorgeous. The food is all locally grown. The service is fantastic. This is really a couples hotel. Take the tour of their farm, the horse back ride is great and the farm is interesting. The hotel internet speed is crazy fast, 20+ MB download! No TV or AC in the rooms but you don't need it. The nights are cool, just open the sliding glass door. The hotel is about 1/2 (up) from the town. I walked it, you need to be in shape or take a taxi ($5)

"Great place to stay"

The Belmar has a lovely concept, being eco friendly and growing all its own produce. The dinner here was definitely the highlight but portions are on the small side. Service is a bit slow but this seems to be common wherever you are in Costa Rica! The room was well situated with a balcony looking over the lush grounds, unfortunately the maid didn’t make an appearance even though we were out most of the day from 7am in the morning. Some things in the room need renewing particularly the blankets and curtains but it was generally clean and well laid out. We organised the night walk through the hotel, advertised to be a max of 6 people we were actually 8, we raised this afterwards and apparently the tour guide took the wrong people with him. Unfortunate because more people means less chance of viewing any creatures through the guides lens. You can walk into Monteverde from the hotel but you might want to get a taxi back because it’s hilly! A taxi cost $4. Overall a lovely place to stay but a few things could be improved upon.
