"A lovely hotel"
Our family of four (kids are 10 & 13) stayed a couple of nights at the Hotel Belmar in the height of rainy season. It is a beautiful place with a lovely European vibe (felt a bit pretentious I thought, but that’s just me). We got a great deal on Priceline and I felt like we were given a “Priceline†room – on the bottom floor under the restaurant so it was a bit loud at times. Still, the room was beautiful, beds and linens were comfy, and there was a gorgeous renovated bathroom with a huge shower, lovely Monteverde toiletries and bathrobes provided. The view was spectacular from our balcony, even on the lowest floor, and the hammock chair was a big hit for the kids. The staff were very attentive and helpful. We took advantage of the free yoga (excellent), the hiking trails on the property and the delicious free coffee (just call any time of the day and they will bring it to you). We ordered room service one night which was good and convenient, although we found the restaurant prices to be high. The hotel is a rather long walk from town but it’s a pretty easy cab ride into Santa Elena ($5) and it is really easy to get a cab back to the hotel from town when you are ready to do so. We also took advantage of the laundry service at the hotel which is convenient but expensive (unfortunately there are no self-service laundry facilities in town). If you are buying souvenirs to bring home, the shops in Santa Elena are a great place to pick things up. The touristy shops here were less expensive and had better choices than other places we visited in Costa Rica (Fortuna, Manuel Antonio & San Jose). We enjoyed our stay, but next time I might look for somewhere more centrally located and cheaper. I don’t think we’ll be returning to Monteverde in rainy season anytime soon either. It was the only time during our Costa Rica vacation when we truly got drenched (during our day in Selvatura Park…. still worth it but I really wish it had been dry). We had wet clothes draped all over our hotel room and while the rain stopped, it was always damp and our clothes didn’t dry out until we got to Manuel Antonio!
"Great hotel in a wonderful place"
I stayed at the hotel Belmar last weekend and the experience was very good. The hotel is very well situaded, the infraestructure is very well maintain but what really makes a difference is the hotel staff, always attentive. We also had spa treatments. Great.
"It was awesome 11 years ago and it was awesome this past summer"
The hotel has changed for the better over the past 11 years. The hotel staff is attentive, the food was great, and the rooms were comfortable. My son hurt himself and the staff worked very hard to get a doctor... which turned out to be difficult given it was a Saturday afternoon and medical professionals generally don't work weekends. Regardless of the incident, the elegant restaurant always had a meal for us no matter what hour and the hotel offers a few tours that might be worth joining. We took the tour of their farm where we made sugar cane juice, ate a bit of their homemade cheese, drank their coffee and learned about sustainable living on the farm. I'd like to emphasize that this hotel has amazing hospitality and I'll stay here every time I visit CR.
"As Costa Ricans say 'Pura Vida'"
Hotel Belmar set sympathetically with nature, designed to be carbon neutral with very touch of a five star hotel. Restaurant Celajes is a culinary delight, plates artistically designed and exceeded only by taste sensations. A wonderfully relaxing hideaway whilst visiting the Cloud Forests of Monteverdi.
"Luxury off the beaten track"
Hotel Belmar is top notch - the staff are so attentive, welcoming and facilitating. We drove from San Jose to Monteverde - which was epic in it's own right - and this was the first stop on our holiday in Costa Rica! We loved it; the rooms, the views, the amenities, the fact it's eco friendly, the yoga, the food. It's not cheap, but it is beautiful and if you can afford it, even for one night, I'd highly recommend it! :) We actually stayed in Feb 2015 but I can't choose that date.
