"Fees, fees and more fees"
Not only were we not told about incidental "fees" but the $45 for parking, which is not validated by the hotel, as well as a lack of communication about brunch reservations turned our stay into an over priced standard hotel room. Ruined the experience!
"Inescapable loud music from lobby in bedroom"
The building is beautiful, and the wrought-iron work on the second floor is spectacular. The atrium that is the centrepiece of the interior is light, open and makes the interior very attractive. But every day for 4 days there was either a piano or jazz band playing from early afternoon until 7 in the evening or later. The sound travels up the atrium like through an echo chamber and the rooms offer no sound proofing against the din even on the 5th floor. If you are looking to work in the room or rest, forget it. The music is 'live' so the volume cannot be turned down. It is pointless complaining. Pity the poor reception staff and concierge, for whom the noise is even more irritating. At the conference my partner attended the background noise of this music was not as bad -- but bad enough to become a running joke. Such a shame, since the hotel staff are obliging and attentive, and the facilities are fine. If all you want is a room for the night, it's fine. If you plan to be in during the afternoon and early evening, it might not be for you. I'd rate the room at 4 star except for the absence of sound-proofing and the awful noise from the atrium below.
"All the World Checks in here"
Well it was what we thought it would be FABULOUS! We were on the 9th floor in the Art Deco room and from start to finish it is truly a gem. Valet, front desk all top notch. Room was lovely we had room service and it was perfect from the call to the service. When you check into the Brown you are transported to a classier time and place. We are Marriott Gold and we had complementary breakfast in Ellingtons again service and style were best of the best!
"Old World Charm with Modern Amenities"
I stayed here for one night for a convention I was to speak at and it was lovely. From the moment I got out of the taxi and the staff greeting me to take my luggage inside to the front desk staff and the lovely room, it was delightful and restful. This allowed me to head over to the convention center and meet with some clients and relax that evening to head back the next day to give my presentation. I only wish I had been able to take the time for their afternoon tea as it looked spectacular.
"Wanted to love this hotel..."
I wanted to love this hotel but just couldn't quite get there. I will start with the positive... Our room was clean and comfortable, housekeeping and turndown service were usually timely, and we could hear the piano from the lobby but never had any noise issues. I was generous with my rating of this hotel because the accommodations themselves were enjoyable. What I couldn't love... The service. Check in was less than friendly. We sat for 20 minutes before anyone acknowledged us in the hotel lobby tea area/bar. We almost left, but I wanted to enjoy a drink in the beautiful space. This was my first trip ever away from my son, and a late birthday celebration. My husband tried to make it a special trip by asking for wine to be left in our room. Just to get someone on the phone before our arrival was a pain-- he was transferred numerous times. Upon arrival, there was no wine in the room, and they had to ask which wine we had requested. I know this is knit picky, but when it is a special occasion, it is disappointing. Shout out to Ron the concierge though. We needed an ice pack frozen for the trip home. He was very helpful and had the ice pack ready for us upon our departure.
