"Brunch at ellyngton's"
The dining room was beautiful, the food was ok if you like seafood, salads were not so great. The desserts were wonderful, and service was not that great for the price. There were 4 of us and we also had to wait even though we had reservations.also got burned with hot g rease that popped out of a pan, hit my face.
"holiday tea, memorable and elegant! "
I enjoyed their holiday tea with my granddaughter and several friends. the ambience was amazing. holiday decorations were gorgeous. the tea was well presented, with 3 selections of tea, scones, sandwiches, and chocolate goodies. yes it was pricy, and yes it was worth it!
"Impeccable and Luxuriously Elegant"
Still a wonderful place! I used to stay here in the late 1980's when traveling on business. I was surprised to learn they are now a Marriott. And I was a little concerned too. But the experience hasn't changed - still old world and deferentially friendly. We spent 4 days over Thanksgiving and the staff could not have been more accommodating. They allowed us to check in early as a room was available, we had a wonderful late breakfast at Ellyington's and returned later in the day to enjoy food and drinks at Ships. Everything is walking distance from the Brown, or a short (free) MallRide away. We did not need a rental car to get to the Brown and that made it even better! A Line train from the airport and then MallRide and walk 1 block. The best luxury bargain in Denver. We opted for Top of the Brown and, at 9 floors high and with new skyscrapers all around, there is no longer a real view to be had, but we'll take service/luxury over a view any day!
"Special Place with Perfect Service"
I stayed here with my husband and 2 1/2 year old son this past October and was very impressed. I was hesitant because there have been some varied reviews on Tripadvisor, but I disqualify those reviews. From the moment I arrived at the hotel, the service was impeccable. Multiple bellmen greeted us, one opening the door, another with our suitcases and another helping with my son! The actual hotel was beautiful, a real piece of history. We came during a cool time of year, since it was Halloween there was ghost tours! I think they do special things all year long (the afternoon tea is definitely something to experience). Which makes the hotel very unique as well! The rooms had so much character and just were beautiful, spacious and the beds comfortable. Also the location was perfect as it was just at the head of 16th street mall (the main Avenue with a free shuttle up and down an outside strip of stores and great things to do!) with great places to eat breakfast/lunch/dinner all either at the hotel or nearby (for less expensive, but delicious).
"Not as nice as had hoped"
My husband and I stayed overnight on thanksgiving eve and met our son for the thanksgiving brunch. The rooms were nice but not exceptional (very old barely functioning iron...steam function did not work). The location was excellent and could not be beat. Free car service was also wonderful. Most of staff helpful and pleasant. The problem...we came a few minutes early for our 2:30 reservation for brunch and were told to sit in lobby area, it might be 5-10 minutes. After waiting 20 minutes and seeing numerous people walk up and be seated I went and inquired about our seating and was told that nothing was available yet...but another worker over heard and said there are 3 tables open and we were finally given a table. There was a lot of staff around but we felt like cattle being herded...had to ask for water after waiting more than 20 minutes. The atmosphere and poor service felt closer to a fast food buffet not a 4 star restaurant with stellar reviews. Not at all what we hoped for or expected for $70.00 each. The food was good, not exceptional. Decorations were nice and again location was fabulous. Overall it was a disappointment. We do not plan to go back.
