"Hidden Jewel Almost Ready to Shine"
I had mixed feelings after booking at the Crowne Plaza Denver due to reading both good and bad reviews. It's amazing how people's perspective of the same place can be so different. At the end of the day, this was a trip on a budget and the Crowne Plaza was very budget friendly. I became aware of the construction taking place a few days before the trip but still opted to stay there. I must admit days before check in I became that annoying guest. I was calling constantly, making changes, asking a million questions during their peak check in times (I forgot about the two hour time difference), I was one of those people and each and every employee was professional, polite and patient. Big shout-out to Lacey! If you ever have any problems, ask for Lacey! Anyway, we had a super late arrival time and didn't get to the hotel until about 1:30AM. The one and only Josh greeted us with a smile and helped us check in. We were told about the breakfast buffet (17.99, from 6-11AM), where it was located and were even given complimentary breakfast tickets. Remember your credit card and ID because you need them to get the room. Also, if you have a debit card, they may or may not place a hold on your card. The Lobby area is nice with a lot of places to sit and chill. They have two computers and an area where one can buy drinks, snacks etc. I believe they have 4 elevators. Our first stop was G4. G4 is an area allocated by the hotel where people can smoke. There is an area to the far right that has seating and tables. It's basically on level 4 of a parking garage. It has potential. After leaving the happy place, we got back on the elevator to get to our home away from home. Caution: there are times when the elevators are crowded and it's hard to contain your laughter after leaving the happy place but you have to do what you have to do. Laughing is good for the soul. Speaking of good, major key alert-don't forget to swipe your key card on the little black box on the lower left side of the elevator while pushing your floor number. If you don't and I promise you will forget at least once; you will be cruising in the elevator up and down 21 floors wondering why it's not stopping on your floor. Don't panic and try to switch elevators, just remember my words and swipe your card on the box. We were told that our view will depend on what side of the hotel they put us on. Initially we were on the 6th floor with a parking lot view. Upon entering the room it smelled clean, was very modern and was pretty roomy. We had two double beds, a nice flat screen TV and a desk. Lighting was more than sufficient. The room doesn't have dressers and we had a lot of clothes so a lot of it was left in the suitcase. There is a closet type structure right behind the entrance door that provides hangers and some space to store items. When there are multiple people in the room limited storage areas can be an issue. The bathroom wasn't very impressive. There is very limited counter space and with four girls it made it somewhat clustered. The room also has a small mini fridge, a k-cup machine, coffee, tea, sugar, cups. To keep our valuables secure the hotel also provides a safe. We created a four digit code to open and close it. I suggest writing down the code because we forgot ours. The amazing people at the front desk sent a nice gentlemen up to the room with tools. After a couple of minutes, the safe was open. He happens to be very knowledgeable and even guided us to the pool. Upon exiting our room on the sixth floor we went right, down a long hallway until we reached the door. We had to have our keycard to get into the pool area. The pool is heated to 74 degrees. The views are pretty dope and seating is more than sufficient. Upon returning to the room for some chill time we heard loud banging and a plethora of other obnoxious noises. We could barely hear what the other was saying. That's when I remembered the construction. It so happens that they were building the gym right under our room. It become unbearable but we just called Jenn down at the front desk and she was able to move us to a higher floor. Her people skills are off the charts amazing. She put us on level 16 with a much better view than the first room. After we settled in we wanted to explore. We were not disappointed with the location of this hotel. 16th Street is a just a few minutes away. There are a variety of restaurants and stores. A free bus runs up and down 16th street so if you get tired of walking, hop on the bus. Yes, you can walk to a dispensary from there. There are very nice dispensaries in the area, closest one is about 7 minutes away. Several hours later we return to the hotel to freshen up and discover we didn't have enough towels to accommodate all of us. A quick call to housekeeping and about 30 minutes later they arrived with towels, shampoo and conditioner. We had plenty of options for evening excursions. After a long night we came back to the room and were pleasantly surprised by the comfort of the bed. They were firm yet comfortable. Pillows were decent. Shut the curtains, adjusted the room temperature and left the TV on Food Network. Within minutes we were all sleeping. Next day we were up early and decided to try the breakfast. Don't expect anything fancy. The room is a small banquet size room with tables, chairs and a buffet table. There is a captain there who assisted us with drinks and also collects payment. She did a great job, I would recommend leaving her a tip. The food is basic breakfast food including eggs, bacon, fruit, toast, oatmeal, sausage, potatoes and other items. You can eat as much as you would like, as long as its before 11AM. We didn't get a chance to try their dinner buffet, so I can't comment on that. With full bellies we headed back to the room. Before heading to breakfast we asked if our room can get serviced while we were out and we were told they could accommodate that request. We walked in and the room and it was not serviced. That meant no clean towels, low toilet paper, no clean glasses, we were low on everything. We placed another call and were told they were on their way. Unfortunately for the duration of our stay, housekeeping never came. The hotel was very busy so it was probably just an oversight. On our last day we got the bill under the door. We again called the front desk and they extended our check out time from the standard Noon to 1PM. The check-out process was very easy, we just left. Overall we were very impressed with this property. It has a lot of potential and I believe after all construction is completed this hidden jewel will shine.
The hotel rooms have all been renovated. Had suite on 19th floor. Restaurant and lobby still under renovation. No noise from any of work in hotel. Room still had new smell. Room had fridge and coffee maker. Suite had sitting room and separate bedroom. Right near 16th street mall. Lots of restaurants and movie theater within walking distance. Would stay here again.
"Dumbest idea ever"
I spend maybe 100 nights a year in hotels and I've seen some pretty stupid facilities and room layouts. But this one - in a newly renovated hotel room - might take the biscuit. In the entire room, there is NOT ONE SINGLE DRAWER. For an eight night stay here, other than a tiny closet, there is literally nowhere to put ... anything. Clothes, personal effects - everything either has to be in my suitcase or out on the few surfaces. The 'bedside tables' are solid blocks with no drawers, there is no dresser and no drawer in the desk. Also, when sitting at the desk, the air conditioner blows directly on you with a gale force, even on 'low'. There is no way to adjust the vents, so if you'er working in the room, the AC/heating has to be off. It makes me wonder if whoever designed this room has ever actually stayed in a hotel? And by the way, they must really like beige, as it is literally the only color for every single surface in the room - a small point but shows the lack of inspiration and understanding of how a room affects your mood. Nice staff though ...
"Perfect location "
We found the location to be perfect a few steps to 16th Street shops and restaurants . The room was newly renovated and very nice. The hallways need updating and the renovations were inconvenient as only two elevators were in used for guests and service staff. I had to wait over 10 minutes to get to the lobby. Not good . The breakfast was included and was surprisingly good. My only other complaint is being charged $27 per night for parking and again renovations made it difficult to get our bags 8 steps up to the elevator . My rating is based on the renovation inconveniences.
"Good hotel under renovations"
Stayed at the hotel for a couple of nights during a recent holiday with my wife. Hotel was good. Very well staffed, catered for my early check-in without any hassles. 5 minute walk from the centre of Denver. Car parking expensive. Construction work going on but noise and disruptions were kept to a minimum. My room though had no fridge. Coffee machine had 4 servings of coffee pods, two of which were decaffeinated. What's the point in that!? I would stay again, but after the renovations are completed.
