Over Glacier Park Lodge

"State #17 in 50-State Quest"

This vacation was in August of 1991 not 2016. It was one of our top vacation spots in those 37 years. We did most National Parks as we hit all our states. But Glacier National Park is considered the best of all with my wife & myself. A lesser known than some of the others but most impressive that has stuck in our minds since our first journey there. I say the first is that this was one we not only hit twice but three times. Seldom does that happen for so many states to cover in a short time. As stated before when paths crossed in doing other states in different years we got the chance to bring back memories. You must see this one for our first time was by train. We got off the train one day stayed over night 2 days then got back on another train going the same direction. What sold us is that view you got of the lodge in getting off the train. Just a wonderful shot of the 1912 hotel not far away with flowers all around as it took you to your destination. This was our 17th state this year with 2 other states along with Canada. The lodge was built by the train owner to promote travel on his train. Maybe that is why it is right in the park and not hid away like in most cities. The other 2 times there were by car. With the last after completing the quest & retirement. The last one was in the winter with all the snow. But summertime is the best for viewing & taking pictures. A car rental is in walking distance on the other side of the tracks. You need to take a ride over the mountain going from east to west in that park. That keeps the sun at your back. Don't forget to bring a gallon or 2 so you can fill up from one of the waterfalls with the best water in the USA. Now lets talk about the best place to stay. Don't have enough time to do that but will highlight a few. The East Glacier Lodge is the best we stayed all 3 times there. But we did stay one night at Many- Glacier-Lodge on our 2nd trip. That one has a great view on it's lake. Both have good food & service. At the Glacier Lodge dinner time is the finest & the other meals are nice too. If they still have the Indian bread you will get so full that you may not be so hungry. Huckleberry is everywhere and you can take some home. We like the ice cream. At this lodge try to stay on the new wing that was built 2 years later. Good view from the side facing the 9 hole pitch & put. There is a large 18 hole course used in pro play in the back. There are no elevators so that is another reason to stay in the annex and on the ground floor that is really the 2nd floor. The insides are breathtaking with the log construction. Can't remember the price of the room or food but it doesn't matter we just had to stay & you will too. There are a few other places to stay in and out of the park they might be good but can't review those we haven't stayed at. You may stay a couple of days but don't be surprised if it's longer. So many places are rated 4 star but the real good ones are saved for a 5 star like this place.

"Outdated, but friendly staff."

A historical place for sure.........but very outdated. Rooms were very small and the bathroom was practically unusable, you couldnt turn around in the shower or bend down. Sink was right up against the shower door. Thank goodness it wasn't hot because there is no a/c - or TV. Nothing nearby. Too far from Glacier Park entrance. Wouldn't recommend more than 1 night stay. I do however want to say that the staff was very friendly.

"Lodge stay"

What can you say, this is one of the iconic Glacier Park lodges. The outside of the hotel and grounds are beautiful. The lobby is a cavernous, but still cozy with fireplaces roaring and puzzles/games on tables. There is interesting park and hotel history set up in the lobby. But the rooms are not worth $300/night. Our room was dark and so dated it was musty. The tiny bathroom is 50s Formica, the shower was terrible. To say the rooms need to be modernized is an understatement. You can old and charming yet still classic and updated. Won't stay here again.

"Golf House"

We stayed at Glacier Park Lodge in June 2016. We had a multi-family group with ages from 3 to 70's. We reserved 2 rooms in the main lodge and the Golf House but could find very little information about the Golf House. So I wanted to give some information about it. The Golf House is a 2 large bedroom house with 2 queen beds in each room. There are 2 full bathrooms both connected to the bedrooms and one of those has another entrance from the hall. There is a washer and dryer on site. There is maid service just like in the lodge if you would like it. There is a full size kitchen with all the regular appliances but very few consumables such as paper towels or salt and pepper. There are the regular dishes and pans for basic living. There is a dining room and a large living room. We had 6 cousins sleep on the living room floor with plenty of space. it has very large windows facing the golf course with a view of the mountains in the back. Most mornings the nearby horse outfit moved its horses down the road next to the house to their sables. Beautiful views!!! It is located on the golf course but not very close to the main lodge. It is within walking distance, about 3 large blocks, maybe 1/4 mile on the back way (can't drive that way). The house is on one of the greens just beyond a rail fence. There is a deck with a BBQ and a few chairs and a picnic table. There is parking for about 4 cars. It is at the end of a road with a few neighbors but was very quiet while we were there. There is a phone that will connect to the lodge just like the phones in the lodge rooms. It was not on the maps that we first got so we had to ask and the girls at the desk weren't sure where it was. We arrived late... in the dark and it took several tries to find the house. They took measures to help us find it. It was a great choice for us. We had room to spread out and eat meals in but had the option of using all the amenities at the lodge.

"always charming, but always problem with reception staff"

We love this lodge and its atmospher, we adore the lobby...but the problem here is the staff... We reserve a long way ago a King Deluxe and request view on mountain as we were here for 3 nights... We got at first try a room on parking lot and as we know the hotel ask for a change and it was done...But why have we to request it ??( to got the room we request at the first choice should be possible, not ??). So nice room but need amelioration in isolation. It was windy by there and we need to do some preparation to be able to sleep..(i post pictures...). On arrival on the second day, the heater broke..and we need to change of room. They give us one on the 3rd floor, large, with 3 queens( but no possibiliy to sleep in the same bed...), no balcony and view only by the windows when you are on feet. I ask if they will be an price's adjustement...Yes affirmed the clerk on duty. On the 3rd floor, we were the only occupied room( seem to be in the moovie Shining...) but it was ...quiet and not so bad. Problem : at the chek out, the same price for the 3 nights... When i request they change the bill...with always the same price...and finally the manager in duty ask me on"how much did you want down...??). Not very serious... So, atmosphere is here, rooms sometimes charming sometimes not but personnal on registartion/check in...not very professional... We will be back next year because for Two Medecine it is where to lodge...
