In Yellostone National Park, nabij de Old Faithful geiser.
"PURE WINTER BEAUTY - accommodations do not mean much to us!"
I've read other reviews, and shake my head. We stayed in the Western Cabins, which are walking distance from the snow lodge. There are snow sleds which you can put your luggage on and pull to your cabins or there is bell service if you choose. Yes, these cabins are rustic, but they were clean, warm and accommodating, no they are not updated, there are no granite counter tops, pillow top beds, etc, so if this is what you are looking for, you need not stay in the cabins. The bathroom showers have good water pressure and warm water. I don't know what the lodge rooms are like. We are here for the outdoors and to unplug from the real world, and this is exactly what we got. The cabin had two queen beds, a full bath with hair dryer, closet, dresser and a small table and two chairs. Lights are a bit dim, but remember lower light bulbs conserve energy. There are two large windows, so we just opened the shades. All staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating. The menu selection at the snow lodge is a bit limited, but good, remember it's off season and transportation is very limited, so easy up a bit, you will not starve! Reservation are highly recommended, especially for dinner. There are no TVs, and this is something we did not miss! It was so nice meeting new people and really talking to one another! I gave the rooms an excellent rating because I knew I wasn't staying at a posh 5 star hotel in the winter with limited access. Could they be? Sure...but then that would take away from the experience, and mostly likely jack up the prices. They even have a program called a "softer stay", which limits your housekeeping needs (saving on laundry/water, etc) if you choose to participate we were given vouchers good for the gift shop. Old Faithful is also within walking distance. The gift shop has anything you can imagine, also in the gift shop area is a ski/snowshoe shop. There is also a coffee shop located in the lobby, with the concierge, and small library area. Also instead of the lodge dining there is Gyser Grill, but has limited hours. Someone is playing the piano or cello in the main lobby in the evenings, and the fireplace is always aglow and very welcoming. RELAX and UNPLUG and ENJOY NATURE in it's PURE WINTER BEAUTY!
"We want to come here again!"
We loved every bit of the snow lodge! Our second floor room was great - simple, quality rustic decor. The lodge space on the first floor is inviting with panoramic windows, fireplace and comfortable seating everywhere. We enjoyed the restaurant, too, with its good food and great views of the beautiful snow-covered landscape.
Now the park in the winter is a very special place. Shame that Xanterra, who runs the hotel, can't perform basic housekeeping duties. There is only one place to stay in the park in the winter, the Snow Lodge and Cabins. It is obvious from our 3 day stay that no effort is made to do adequate cleaning here. The carpets are stained and in need of cleaning. Who knows when the blankets and bed covers were ever cleaning. Vestiges of past guests are in visual evidence all over the place. I doubt management ever does room inspections, and I would advise all to be wary. I must say, the staff is very nice and accommodating. Food is okay too.
"Surprisingly Elegant and Modern"
We spent 3 nights at the Old Faithful Snow Lodge and were quite surprised at the comfort and elegance of the place. The room was large with a very comfortable king bed and a view to the side with the holiday lights. Upscale soap, shampoo and conditioner. We were on the second (top) floor which was quiet. Room had a refrigerator and coffee maker. No TV or wiFi, but you are at a national park, so who needs it. It was relaxing to be "disconnected" from the world for a couple of days. Snowshoe and ski rentals are available. Choice of full restaurant, coffee shop or cafe. Lobby has several fireplaces, lounges for reading and game areas (board, games, cards, puzzles are available). Music (cello/piano) every evening in the lobby. Great library to learn more about Yellowstone. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Only downside was the need to keep the window open slightly -- even with the heat off it was 70 in the room. Too warm for us.
"Experience Yellowstone in Winter in Style"
This is an attractive National Park quality accommodation, with comfortable rooms (no TV) and very good food and service in a comfortable lodge setting. But you are not coming here for Four Seasons amenities, you are coming to experience wild Yellowstone in winter. And there is no better way to do it. Arrive by snow coach and be sure to take one of the numerous tours offered. Or you can ski or snowshoe around on your own. Old faithful is on the property and there are NO crowds. A definite bucket list experience.
