In Yellostone National Park, nabij de Old Faithful geiser.
"Snow Lodge cabins were a good choice"
We were unable to get reservations in the Snow Lodge itself, so we ended up staying in a couple of Western and one Frontier cabin. They were neat and clean and not nearly as spartan as I thought they would be. They had places to sit and queen size beds and coffee makers in the rooms. I will also point out that we had an early snowfall while staying there and the rooms retain heat very well. It dropped into the 20's at night and never got out of the 30's during the day during our stay. But the rooms all stayed nice a warm throughout our stay. You still have only a short walk over to the Lodge for meals and the Lodge also has a very nice area for the guests to do laundry, multiple washers and dryers.
"Great Location, with Many Lodging options"
This lodge was inside the park, and very well maintained, with multiple buildings. Downside of multiple buildings, was that you had to get a shuttle to go to the man dining room, and to shops, general store, etc. Neat concept, but a little inconvenient to hop a shuttle. Most buildings were not an easy walk to the general store or dining room, and day we were there, the path from lodging to dining room was under construction, so you had to use the shuttle. Also, no ADA rooms, so that could have been a big problem, if we stayed more than 1 night. Dining room was very well staffed and service was great. Food was good, and was glad to get "real" eggs, for a change. This particular lodge was scheduled as a stop, by the group tour we were on, but if we return, we will not stay here.
"We stayed here in 2010 and don't think they have deep cleaned or maintained the rooms since"
My overwhelming feeling was the management know you are screwed once you are here as there is nowhere else to go , we had to book this room a year ahead and they know that. The Duty Manager was too busy to even see us until I asked for the comments card on leaving. We will never stay here again and will try to stay outside the park next time. The room had 2 Queen beds + round dining table+ 2 chairs & a sideboard in the main room. A small bathroom (shower over bath + toilet) with the basin between the bathroom and luggage storage area. There may be some noise from other rooms as they were side to side & back to back & due to the acoustics the noise can come through the walls if your neighbour is noisy. Please note that we have travelled widely & this is the only the 2nd time we have felt obliged to leave a negative review for a hotel. Normally if we have any problems we either sort it out with the management or move hotels if the problems can not be resolved. PROBLEM 1. When we got to the cabin we noticed that 2 windows were open and when we tried to close them we discovered that they were broken and could not be closed. This meant that we would be leaving our belongings in a room that did not even have basic security & also when the temperature dropped over night we would not have a choice about opening or closing the window to control the temperature. Registration advised us that they were fully booked and would be unable to move us to another room. Registration sent a man from housekeeping to see what he could do in case it was “user errorâ€. My husband managed to close one window but the other was beyond him & the housekeeping man didn’t have the tools so we were advised that we would have to wait for someone from maintenance. The repair made by maintenance then failed & we had to go to registration to get maintenance to return who screwed the window shut which means it will be un-useable for any future visitors. The repair was completed by 7.30 when we returned to the cabin. We had wanted to explore and see the Old Faithful area so it was a huge waste of our first evening. PROBLEM 2. The cabin was dirty. I do not mean a mark or two on the carpet but long term dirt. There was heavy soiling on the carpet in multiple places that I suspect could have been sorted out just by spot cleaning the marks. There were stains on the curtains as well. I do feel sorry for the cleaning staff as there do not seem to be enough people for the number of cabins, but as we paid $183 per night we did expect a much better standard than this. We visited Yellowstone and stayed in the cabins 7 years ago & it doesn’t seem to have had much maintenance or in-depth cleaning done in this time. We noticed that many of the cabins had missing tiles and problems.
"Snow Lodge Western Cabin"
The Western Cabin had two queen sized beds and was very spacious. There was a table and chairs as well as plenty of storage and a coffee machine. Our cabin had nice big windows which opened well for airflow. There is a walk in closet area opposite the bathroom which was great for all the luggage. There is a laundry on the second floor of the snow lodge.
"Wonderful location, comfortable room"
This is a comfortable place to stay in a beautiful location. The point is to enjoy being inside Yellowstone National Park. Yes, it's spendy, and it doesn't have the same kind of amenities you might find outside the park - but if you're at Yellowstone you don't need TV, etc. We didn't spend a whole lot of time in our room because there's so much to do in the park. We lucked out with phone and wifi service (Verizon) - we were able to get slow but adequate email. The room was very clean and adequate for our needs. It was nice to have a refrigerator, and we used the fan one night during our stay. It was nice to have the window open for fresh air and the sound of much-needed rain.
