Over Paradisus Rio de Oro Resort & Spa

Our favorite

"Wonderful paradise "

We have been to the paradisus rio de oro 3 times and have already booked our 4th for may 2017. This hotel, it's staff the whole experience is excellent. The grounds it's in are kept beautiful and the garden staff very happy always a wave and "hola" the Buffett staff work hard to ensure you have everything you need the food is varied and the al a cart every good. There are so many positive things that I could mention but there is not enough time - my advise go there and see for yourself I certainly will keep returning

"Christmas and New Year cheer in Paradise !"

What makes a holiday ? People do and we cannot praise enough the service, friendliness and desire to please from ALL staff at this wonderful hotel. Yes we can moan about the little issues that supposedly affect our enjoyment like the WiFi, kettles or hot water but they are insignificant to the overall pleasure that this hotel brings. Stayed for 2 weeks over Christmas and New Year and we were absolutely thrilled with the effort made to make our holiday special. The eves of Christmas and New Year were sensational in the buffet and the entertainment superb. Our second visit and it wont be our last ! Thank you so much Paradisus, you made our celebrations a fantastic thrill.

"WoW only begins to describe this place January 2017"

My wife and myself, plus a couple we have travelled with many times on cruises and resorts were First timers here. My wife and I have been to Cuba at least 10 times and our friends were Rookies to Cuba. Well PRDO, IS THE BEST .Everything within 10 minutes of our Suite, food, water pool or beach, activity centre, all easy to access no stairs to climb(except the beach). Food at all A la carte (4)were all great..... buffet fresh veggies, meats, fish, and treats every meal. We will definitely be returning....

"Seniors at PRDO - we like it"

My wife and I, both seniors, stayed one week at the Paradisus Rio de Ora in Cuba mid-January 2017. We booked this trip through Sunwing/Signature and it was great value for the money. Five star, all-inclusive and adult-only; bring it on! Our only disappointment on arrival was our room; it was on the ground floor and we think it was unused for a while with the air conditioning turned off. It had a strong mildew smell and being particularly sensitive to mildew, I found myself trying to hold my breath while inside. The smell did not dissipate overnight and I did not sleep very well so in the morning we requested another room. They moved us to a 2nd story room and it was ok. The new room was in the building (#11) closest to the entertainment center and our balcony faced it. After the hotel staff had kindly moved us once already, we didn’t feel it proper to complain again so we tried our best to develop an appreciation for loud Cuban bands. They quit about 10:30 pm so it would affect only early-to-bed seniors like us. Always look where you step. All rooms have 2 steps down to the sitting area. Viewed from above the steps are hard to see and there is no colour differentiation or warning strips so, with the light glaring in from the patio door, the steps can easily be missed. Also, the steps outside the building are dimly lit at night and again uniform in colour. There are many tripping hazards near the beach. The restaurants are all great. We agree that birds and squeaky chair legs detract from the buffet restaurant experience, but the food is good. We went to a few a-la-carte restaurants for dinner, our favourite was the Mediterranean. This is our 50th anniversary year, so I approached customer service and they were nice enough to have a rose, a card and a cold bottle of champagne waiting for us in our room after an afternoon at the pool. The grounds are spectacular, the staff is friendly and the pool and beach are marvelous. There is a botanical garden that serves as a plant nursery, very nice to walk through. We could have spent the entire week on the grounds. We did take one day trip. We decided not to take any of the rather costly organized bus tours or ‘water’ outings but instead took advice from a TripAdvisor write-up (thanks LoonyLou) and hire a taxi for the day. We asked the hotel desk for a cab with an English-speaking driver for a trip first to Holguin and then to Gibara, a costal fishing village. What showed up the next morning was a well-worn yellow cab (Chinese car with a Toyota motor) with an English-speaking tour guide and a driver who spoke no English. Close enough. The price they wanted (120 CUC) was exactly what the hotel desk said it would be. Oslay and Manuel were great company all day as we toured craft markets, and a church in Holguin (the cigar factory was closed) and ate a full lunch at La Cueva Taina in Gibara. As is the custom, we treated Oslay and Manuel to lunch and the tab came to only 22.50 CUC for 4 adults, including beer and soft drinks, very reasonable. We took some local roads on the way back and had a peek at the ‘real’ Cuba. I can recommend this type of day trip but, to ensure a good experience, book through the hotel reception desk. Overall this was a most enjoyable week at a beautiful resort and we will consider coming back.

"Fantastic yet again "

Having just arrived back to the uk from yet again an other outstanding stay at the Rio De Oro, what can I say about this small piece of paradise. Well this was our third trip back in 2016 and we have booked again to return in May 2017.... the reason for this is because the RDO has an ambience that draws you like a magnet. New Year's Eve was stunning the amount of time and work that went into the Buffet was amazing. Even the well manicured grounds had been decorated with low lighting in the trees to give a festive feel. A few things that we did notice from our last trip was that this time we had Drinks service around the pool, and the entertainment at the pool during the day was good, along with the evening entertainment which seemed to have different performers who were very good. So we would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to the Management, the staff and all the other people involved in making this another fantastic holiday for us. So for anybody looking for a idyllic relaxing stress free holiday the RDO is for you. Once again thank you for your kind hospitality, and look forward to Seeing you all again in May.
