Over Hotel Saratoga

"One of the most wonderful bars and best places to stay in Havana!"

First of all this bar is absolutely gorgeous! Saratoga is located right in the center of Havana so it makes it very easy to get around! The roof top pool and bar is great! Wonderful views of the city up there! The staff was very helpful and so nice! Had such a lovely time here and would definitely recommend!

"saratoga may 2018"

excellent service and facilities, great location. staff is very friendly and great roof top pool. keep in mind that this is cuba and some days some of the food on menu not available. overall great hotel for long weekend getaways

"Theft, Scams, and Collusion - You will regret staying here!!"

Our stay was riddled with terrible experiences. To start, the customer service was laughable, many people were rude when we asked basic questions or for recommendations. The room was noisy and mediocre at best. Neither the AC nor the bathroom worked properly, however they claimed we could not move rooms or get a refund if we left. No discount was offered either. There is no Wifi, you pay for a card that has an hour worth of service on it or try to connect to local Cubacel reception, however this did not work either and we were unable to connect. When it comes to transportation, don't try to catch a taxi in front of this hotel - it will be double the price of any down the street. Worst of all though is that we had items stolen from our room while we were on a trip to Veradero. THEN we were scammed out of $200 by our tour guide that was set up by the hotel. The tour agency to the right of the entrance helped us find a driver for three hours so that we could visit the beach and quoted us 100 CUCs total. When our driver arrived he took us to the back of another hotel in Veradero and instructed us to wait in an alley while he went to grab an attendant of hotel Melia, a resort on the beach. This attendant demanded that we pay an additional $100 CUCs so that we could sit on the beach and use drink wristbands that looked faded and used (and asked that we give them back upon leaving). This guy was the drivers friend who apparently split the money with him as soon as we walked away. It was disappointing on so many levels but since we were already there and didn't want to risk getting stranded an hour and a half away from our hotel, we decided to try and enjoy ourselves. On the way back to Hotel Saratoga, the driver passed everyone in the car a bottle of wine no one asked for, then stopped at a random persons home to pick up a rectangular package wrapped in a plastic bag. By this point we were ready to be back at our hotel and away from all of the sketchiness so we asked if we could just keep heading back to Hotel Saratoga. Then he claimed he wanted to be paid for the trip, so we gave him the 100 CUCs we had agreed on with the tour agency who arranged the service for us. The driver immediately got upset and said that the round trip was 200 CUCs and demanded more money. We tried calling the tour agency and spoke to the woman we had booked the trip through but she flat out denied what she had said and sided with the driver, the hotel wouldn't help us either so we were out of luck and had to pay hundreds more than the price we had to agree to, all to visit the beach for a short period. After we arrived back at Hotel Saratoga, we saw the manager of the hotel (that refused to help us earlier) take the package that the driver had picked up and laugh with him while putting it behind his desk. To put it bluntly, this place is a breeding ground for illegal activity and they get away with it by banding together. Your belongings aren't safe and neither are you. Also, the hotel will make zero effort to help you if you need it. Just avoid this hotel if you can.

"VERY Expensive but 100% worth the splurge!"

We stayed at the Saratoga for 3 nights when we first arrived in Havana (wanted a soft landing in Cuba and to experience the feeling of staying at a grand old colonial hotel in Cuba!) When we arrived late evening, we were expected and warmly welcomed like royalty! Our check-in was super quick and very efficient - the doorman was particulary friendly, helpful, professional and used the time it took to get from reception to our room to give us a few pointers on Cuba, the dual currency, how everything in the room and the hotel works, where everything was etc. Really a nice touch and made us feel instantly comforatble and at home. The room was spacious, beautiful and immaculate. We booked online and requested a room on the 7th floor - the non-smoking floor - and our room was on the 7th floor (so many times we've requested non-smoking rooms at hotels only to end up in exactly that and then told there are no other rooms available and pretty much take it or leave it...) Our room had no exterior windows and the interior window overlooked the mezzanine bar which was quite nice. Not sure what the view would have been from an exterior window as not all windows face the best parts of the streets below. Best to ask for an exterior window during your booking if this is an important feature for you. Everything was absolutely perfect: thick white fluffy towels & robes, slippers, plenty little soaps shampoos, sewing kit, toothbrushes etc etc which was replenished daily. Pillows like clouds! (and a pillow menu!) Plenty storage space, iron & board, hair dryer, stocked minibar (although no prices!) Television with a 17 channel menu including English channels but only 3 actual channels in Spanish working. Bath & Shower. Massive King sized bed with very comfortabel mattress. Free in-room WiFi 24/7 although it sometimes dropped out for a couple of minutes. Room cleaned daily. We loved the rooftop pool and bar with amazing views and attentive bar staff! Cocktails CUC5. Tasty & reasonably priced food - I've attached the menu and prices. We had 32 degrees for basically our entire time in Cuba and the pool was a god-send in the hottest part of the day when we took a break from the streets and the relentless sun. We've been to the rooftop pools/bars of a number of hotels during our stay in Havana and by far the Kempinski wins first prize! Saratoga is a solid 2nd followed by Parque Central. We had breakfast at the hotel each morning - absolutely amazing - so much to choose from! The only time in Cuba we had mueseli - sounds insignificant but if you're travelling through Cuba for almost a month, you'll realise how significant it is :-) Cost of breakfast was quite expensive for Cuba at CUC27.50 per person but 100% worth it! Everything from all the usual American breakfast stuff - bacon, sausages eggs etc. - to a wide range of freshly made juices, a variety of milk, including almond milk, fruit, breads, pastries, cakes, cold meats, cheeses, even roe! We could not come remotely close to even try a little bit of everything. Great coffee! The service was excellent without fail. They have a doorman both inside and outside the main entrance and you never had to open the door yourself. Any request was immediately attended to. The staff were all very friendly - we were never made to feel like they're doing us a huge favour. The only negative I could mention was the laundry service which was quite expensive and the clothes were still wet when they were returned so as we were leaving early the next morning we had to hang it out allover the room overnight to dry. At that price and with the heat and constant sun in Havana you'd think that they'd manage to return it fully dry. We paid CUC29.85 for 11 items of which 2 required ironing. In comparison we paid CUC5 for the same or more everywhere else in Cuba. We loved the mezzanine bar - absolutely beautiful! You can almost imagine what it would have been like when the Mafia still owned Havana. The drinks are a bit more expensive than at the rooftop bar. (I've attached the menu for this one too). We've changed money at the hotel twice at a good rate and without any issues and ordered a taxi which arrived promptly and exactly as described. They also offer airline bookings, business services, medical services, butler service, 24/7 concierge, baby-sitting, theatre & concert tickets, etc. Really quite an extensive range of services. We booked our room online a few months out from our stay but the hotel did not seem very full while we were there in April (there were only one other group of people in the mezzanine bar when we were there one evening for instance and during the day we were the only people) - same sort of scenario at the rooftop bar/pool. We paid upfront online using our Bank Australia Visa (we were asked to provide this card when we checked in, so use the same card you'll be using - and are able to - in Cuba. You also have to pay either in cash or with the same card for any extras when you check out). We had an absolutely amazing stay at Saratoga! If you have the money to spend, I'd recommend at least one splurge on a luxury grand colonial hotel while in Cuba! We will definitely stay here again if we're ever lucky enough to return to Cuba! I've attached a bunch of photos which I hope would be helpful.

"Great place and wonderful service"

I went to Saratoga Hotel for one evening and had a wonderful experience. The hotel is beautiful, with everything you would expect of the Cuban style, and the people working at the bar Mezanine (Elaine and Yanet) were great. Elaine is excellent at making the cocktails, and Yanet helped me to choose the cigar to be smoked that evening. All in all an amazing experience, with a feeling of being taken care of like a President :) Oh! And let's not forget the amazing pianist who played and sang for amazingly for the most part of the evening.
