"Gone way down hill"
What a mess. Air leaked the tub sprayed water out of faucet not shower head couldn’t open patio door and two days later they finally moved me to another room Entertainment wasn’t as good as previous stays when it was the sunspree holiday inn nor was they buffet as good. And the staff ... be careful they will hustle u for anything
"Great Holiday Great Resort"
After a quick 15 min. ride to the hotel, check in went smoothly while dealing with Danian. We mentioned this was our first time to Jamaica and he asked if we would like an upgrade free of charge on our room, which turned out to be wonderful. He was very helpful and a very nice person to deal with. We went to all 3 alacartes and the Seabreeze was our favorite. All restaurants and buffet were excellent. Beware of the hot sauce at the jerk hut. If you want to have fun at the Seabreeze ask for Kitson, he was a great waiter and fun to talk to. He was very professional, or if you were in a mood to joke and have some fun he is the guy to talk to. Audley was our waiter at Sorrento and he was a very helpful and pleasant person to deal with. The hotel is very large compared to others we have visited. We really enjoyed the snorkeling under the pier to the right (the one with a gazebo at the end of it). We saw lots of different types of fish (large & small), we saw two different colored lion fish, a couple of rays, one very large and a smaller one, moray eel, and small baracudas.. There is another pier to the left, but not as many fish as the one to the right. The only thing that we would have liked better was for the water on the beach to be deeper in order to swim and play around. The water is pretty much only waste deep, except around the back of the island where you snorkel - it is a little deeper there. Entertainment was okay, but would have like to hear more Jamaican music. Two evenings there was a fiddler which was great (I was sorry he didn't have cd's to sell). Overall it was a wonderful trip - great resort. The people that we met were a wide variety of nationalities that were all very friendly and nice. I just though one of my biggest pet peave/complaint is that I usually like to get a lounge chair at the beach because my husband had skin cancer. In order to get a grass hut I had to be down at 5 - 5:30 in the morning, otherwise people had towels out on the chairs.
"Nice resort overall. Excellent food. Limited beach area."
Just returned from a week at the holiday inn. Overall, a very nice relaxing week, and I'd give this resort 3 or 3.5 out of 5. Food: excellent! The buffet had plenty of options, both typical US/Canadian breakfast foods as well as several typical Jamaican items. There was an omelet station available every morning where omelets were prepared to order (delicious). Always lots of options for lunch as well, with a "made to order" station that changed every day. Didn't ever eat at the buffet for dinner, and instead went to an "à la carte" restaurent each evening. À la carte restaurants: you can book as many as you want during the week (must book in the morning for the following day; we never had a problem with getting bookings). Italian was our favorite (beef tenderloin was absolutely amazing, and perfectly cooked). Very impressed with both the service, the presentation and the quality of the food. Seabeeeze (seafood) was also very good. Beautiful setting overlooking the ocean. The regular menu was very much sufficient and we didn't see the point in paying an extra $25USD for the extra menu options. Jamaican: pretty good overall, nothing special. We didn't try the Japanese place; extra cost. Beach: Nice overall but very limited. At each end of the resort is a wall, and you cannot go past/around it. There are designated roped off swimming areas, which only allow you to go out to about waist height. You can swim out further on the other side of the island, but it's pretty shallow (especially at low tide), and lots of rocks on the bottom. Water sports: Access to kayaks and paddle boats is free, however, you can only take the boats in a roped off area that goes along the beach resort. It is strictly prohibited to go beyond the roped off areas in the kayaks/paddle boats and the lifeguards will blow the whistle if you leave. Unfortunately, this means that you can't go and see the beaches of other resorts or explore any further than the small designated lane. Overall a very nice resort with excellent food. After a few days though, you've essentially done all that there is to do on the resort. If you like going for walks along the beach (beyond the resort), looking at other resorts, or swimming (deeper than waist deep water), this isn't this ideal resort for those activities. Essentially the only way that you can leave the resort is by paying for an excursion (generally $100+ USD) or by walking down the road (unsure about the safety considering the current state of emergency, so we didn't venture off alone). Snorkeling: Tonnes of colorful fish right around the island. We swam out to the orange markers (past the island). Much deeper there and there are some amazing underwater caves and trenches to see. We also did a snorkeling tour (from the hotel, booking office is beside the catamaran booking place). Cost was $40USD per person for 1hr. Well worth it. Takes you out to the reef in front of the hotel. Saw several stingrays and swam up close with "chubs"; got to feed them as well.
"Annual Girls Trip"
Absolutely love Holiday Inn! From the moment BEEFBONE picked us up at the airport, it started our whole island adventure. The laid back vibe. The Caribbean air. The musiche played. What a great guy! Highly recommend using BEEFBONE for all transportation. We use him ever time-all the time. Holidayinnhas something for everyone! Music from sun up to sun down.
"Nice resort, bad experience"
I had a good time overall, liked the staff, food was decent, but I had an experience than no woman traveling solo should have. My husband had to leave for 3 days unexpectedly and I was alone. I wanted to sit in quiet area in front of pool to eat, hostess would not let me. She said tables were for couples or families. I told her I wasn’t staying, just eating, she made me sit in buffet area at table for 2 with kids running around. I had a Platinum Spire band. My table waitress noticed I was crying, was sweet and said she was sorry, it shouldn’t have happened. I pointed out that they had seated a single man at that table, whose “ wife†never showed up. I feel like they discriminated against me and since there are no signs about tables, should not refuse a table to anyone for any reason. They weren’t even fully crowded. There appears to be a double standard for single women vs men. Not acceptable! Those tables are outside under veranda and quiet. I contacted IHG corporate, but the resort NEVER responded. I’d hate to think how they’d be if it was a crime or assault. On a positive note, the resort was clean, transfers were easy to find. I liked the little shop for sundries...as there are warning signs everywhere about not taking food to your room. Silly! I suggest walking across the street to Scotchies for seriously good food and take a day trip to Negril. The entertainment was pretty good at night, we pretty much listened from afar because they had the worst sound system I’ve ever heard.
