"Run-down and Overpriced"

   25-06-2017
The hotel is equal to all of the other run-down shacks on the island, but instead of costing $90 per night, it's WAY more. Specfic Problems: - Terrible customer service. For instance: the front desk quoted a price for a taxi, when the taxi arrived his price was 50% higher. We asked the front desk, an he blamed me for his error. - The front desk also tried to charge me for an airport shuttle which never arrived. - Pealing, dated wallpaper, room design, decoration, etc. The only reason I gave this two stars (instead of one), is that the air conditioning worked well, and the welcome drink was great.

"Awful check in experience "

   24-06-2017
On June 24, 2017, we checked in to this resort at 11:00am and were told that they would have informed housekeeping to place priority on the room and it would have been available by 1:00pm for the latest. We were fine with that and headed out to get lunch and upon returning, noticed several parties who had just arrived were being escorted to their rooms. When we inquired about such, we were told by the guy at the front desk that just the way it is and we had to wait longer. I expressed my disappointment as it seemed rather unfair that we were the first to arrive at the hotel for the morning and the last to be attended to and that we would have to seek other accommodation upon our next trip to Tobago. Clearly, customer service was not a priority for this front desk person as his response to us was "well that's no problem Ma'am, there are other hotels in Tobago." Hotel management should emphasize the importance of exceptional customer service at all times as this is the key to attracting or losing visitors! Customers are paying for exceptional service and I will not accept such poor service at this resort again! It's now 2:11pm and I'm still waiting to be attended to.

"Great, relaxing holiday"

   24-06-2017
After a long flight, we enjoyed a warm welcome (and cold drink) before quick registration and being shown to a lovely room with a balcony overlooking the pool and beach which was around 50 yards away. It is a great beach: lots of sand and no need for beach shoes to walk to the sea (as encountered elsewhere). Plenty of sunbeds and shade too - no 6.30 am starts needed to secure a sunbed here! The lagoon is calm and clear with lots of fish to see when snorkelling (or even just standing). Adventuring on the "open-sea" side of the lagoon offers more fishy encounters but watch out for the occasional jet ski. Food wise, breakfast offered an extensive buffet. Lunch was at the beach restaurant and there were a range of salads, hot dishes and a BBQ to choose from. In the evening, the menu gave a choice of meat, fish/seafood, chicken and vegetarian dishes. Although usually I prefer a buffet in the evening (so I can try a small amount of a wide variety of dishes rather than just one), I was pleased to find that there was always something that appealed, and then, tasted delicious. I've given 5 stars because of the overall experience. Yes, there were some areas which could be improved. In particular, the shower was definitely needing a facelift and the wifi was very unpredictable unless you paid a significant fee. In my experience, most hotels of this standard can offer free, good quality wifi these days. More positively, our room was kept very clean despite the challenges of diving gear and sand. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and the reception staff were the best I have ever encountered - nothing was too much trouble and all queries were met with a smile. Throughout our stay we were particularly impressed by the very warm hospitality and kindness shown to us always. There were many little, personalised touches that made us feel spoilt and valued customers. The combination of this, the wonderful location on this beautiful island and the excellent, on-site dive shop (Undersea Tobago) means we hope it won't be too long before we return.

"Location is perfect. Beautiful beach"

   23-06-2017
We stayed here for 7 nights and my first impression was wow what a lovely beach and view. You can snorkel in the bay and there are so many fishes - just beautiful. The sunsets were stunning. I will miss these. Our room was ok. Yes it needs a lot of updating however it's important to see past this as we had everything we needed. The bed was comfy so we slept well. The shower was excellent. We had a fridge and a small seating area area outside (although not keen on sitting opposite the pool). The breakfast was a buffet and it was delicious. There was a lot of choice so this was perfect. The reason why I'm not giving this hotel 5 star was because of the staff and customer service. Some staff were so helpful and friendly but then others were just unhelpful and disinterested. This was particularly noticed at breakfast or when serving us drinks in the lobby area. The customer service was not all negative. The waiter who works on the beach asking if we needed drinks was friendly and helpful. The chaps at the dive shop were super helpful. Thanks to housekeeping who always kept our room clean despite us bringing in lots of sand. Also a big thank you to some of the reception staff who were always happy to provide new beach towels. Overall, we had a lovely stay. Such a wonderful location. Close to restaurants, bars and shops. We will definitely be back one day!

"Not a great experience, from poor conditions to being overcharged for items"

   18-06-2017
I gave two stars for the following reasons: the friendliness of (some) staff, the fact that my favorite dive shop in Tobago (Undersea Tobago) is located at the hotel, and a decent beach. Otherwise, there were plenty of issues with my visit. THE ISSUES 1. Room was not clean and almost everything in the hotel is in poor condition. Shower didn't drain properly. The room looked and felt dirty. There was a lump of someone's hair on the floor next to my bed which was UNDER the floor coating!!! They didn't even bother to clean the room when resurfacing the floor? 2. I was charged for items I didn't purchase, but thankful caught most of them before I actually paid or had it charged to my room. First, I was charged for a 2 course dinner, when I had 1 course. Then, I was charged for two drinks instead of one, on two separate occasions. Then, I had a local beer mysteriously appear on my tab when I haven't had a beer throughout my whole time there! It's not the busy season, and there were not enough guests at the hotel so that the staff may have confused my receipts or orders with another guest. How hard is it to keep track of one drink or one meal course?? 3. The wifi is ridiculously bad and unreliable. It only 'works' (and that's a generous description) in the lobby. I know people don't usually come to Tobago to work on their laptops, but when you need to, it's a nice convenience to have, especially when it works in the room as well. 4. The food is very average. The price of the dinner isn't worth it. The breakfast is decent, but not what you'd expect for the money you're paying! In short, the food and drinks (water or alcoholic) are a ripoff. 5. Several times, when I asked for water, I could get a half-filled glass, for which they used bottled water (not tap), and when I asked for the rest of the bottle, they apparently either used it or poured it out! This was absolutely ridiculous! After two instances of that, and a third time when they reluctantly brought out another unopened bottle, I had enough of the food and beverage service at the hotel. TIPS FOR STAYING AT COCO REEF 1. Don't bother getting any inclusive food items. If you get up and take a 2-3 minute walk to the left or right of the hotel, you'll find much better and tastier food for about 1/3 to 1/4 the price it is at the hotel. For breakfast, lunch, dinner, and drinks. You can get a drink or two at the hotel, but that's about all you should pay for there in terms of food/beverage. Buy food on the outside, and enjoy it in your hotel room or on the beach. 2. Buy bottled water at one of the local mini-marts that's within a few minutes walking of the hotel. You'll by 3-4 bottles for the price of one at the hotel. 3. When they bring out the yellow or red receipts that just has your room number on it and an illegible order scribbled on it, DO NOT sign them. Ask for itemized printed receipts for every order that show every item you've consumed, even if it's only 1 drink or 1 water bottle. Keep them, and if you do charge anything to your room, check the itemized receipts and ask to see everything that was charged to your room at the end of each day. SUMMARY This hotel MAY be worth staying at if you're doing a lot of scuba diving, because they have a fantastic dive shop on the premises. AND, if they shape up the condition of the hotel, AND improve the quality of the service and food, as well as the attitude of some of the staff. But if you stay at a cheaper hotel and take a taxi to the dive shop every morning and back at the end of the day, it would be a better solution. I did that when I first visited Tobago in 2014, and I probably should've done the same this time around.
