"I Expected More From The Capital of China"
I don't know why Gate1 Travel (An American Company) would choose a hotel that has a concierge staff that do not speak English. I had a hard time communicating with staff for information and directions to local sites and tourist spots. Although, I give the staff my appreciation for putting a lot of effort to communicate. Nevertheless, it is still inadequate for our needs. The room was poorly lighted and the tub was constantly leaking water on the floor. Moreover, the vent was not functioning properly because of heavy dust build-up. The safe was also inadequate as it malfunctioned on us- we ended up stashing and locking up our valuables with our baggage. The room door was also malfunctioning as it intermittently did not electronically lock properly; we had to call the concierge to have maintenance to secure our room door. Some of my tour mates complained about poor air conditioning and dusty carpet flooring in their rooms. The hotel did have some advantages. It was centrally located in a street with a convenient store, several restaurants, a couple of banks, and a few massage spas. The location was also close to Temple of Heaven , Tiananmen Square, and Forbidden City. Our experience may not reflect the experience of other people. This review is just my overall opinion of our brief stay.
"Good traveller hotel"
Stayed for 3 nites. Lots of tour groups staying. Read issues about staff not speaking english? Staff spoke english, was very helpful in giving directions. Plenty of restaruants nearby. Large grocery store about 10 minute walk. Temple of heaven park is 30 minute walk and easy directions. Metro is about 15 min walk but crossing major roads can be a challenge. Breakfast was good with plenty of western foods to eat. Rooms were average. AC is requlated. But room was comfortable considering 90 degree heat wave during our stay. Can exchange money at front desk or use ATM at entrance. Overall good stay.
"two stays; two different experiences..."
first stay was for a night - room was ok, but stuffy - couldn't regulate a/c and the cable didn't work (didn't care, but...); asking staff for assistance was challenged, as none appeared to speak any English!!?? breakfast = chaos with staff just standing around, not replenishing any food or drink unless asked: total MISS!! second stay was about ten days later: mini suite with lovely, comfortable furniture and bed; clean bathroom with amenities; tea and coffee service, working a/c, free wifi and working cable: what a difference ten days makes!! this time, a few staff spoke English and turned out to be quite helpful and friendly... the breakfast is still a MISS!!
"Great location but tired hotel"
The hotel is rather dated. It had the hardest bed that I have ever slept in. Some in our group had to request extra comforter just to be able to get some sleep. The breakfast buffet was one of the worst I have had. Staff spoke very little English and was rather hard to ask for directions or recommendation. For the positive side, the hotel is centrally located. This is not a hotel that I would go back to as I have stayed at lot better hotels in Beijing.
"Nice Intro into China - Good and the bad!"
We were on a tour and they pick the hotels for you. Right off the start some things were different here. The Lobby is in the basement, not the street level. We were lucky to have the tour guide check us all in. There are several people working the desk but only one speaks any English, and he works days. The room was larger than I thought and the bed was harder than I thought. Our room backed up to a grade school behind the hotel (little noise during the day - quiet at night). Large sized bathroom and plenty of room & hot water. They provide two bottles of water a day. The water in the bathroom sink has a label "Not Potable Water" and believe them, use the bottle water to drink, brush teeth and so on. Electric: We were able to plug things into the Chinese Outlet style like my i-phone charger, Kindle and so on. My computer has a three prong plug. None of the hotels outlets on the trip handle a 3 prong and I needed an adaptor at each hotel. Bring your own and save trying to translate 3 prong adaptor! Hint!
