"An excellent alternative to an All Inclusive resort"

   20-02-2017
Recently I had the opportunity as a travel agent to do a site review of the Amsterdam Manor .A friendly , professional staff personal by the name of Gerald met with my husband and I to complete the tour. I have booked several clients to this place in the past from Canada and they all have returned with raving reviews of the place. Rooms are clean, a good size with modern décor and appeared well stocked with kitchenette. The white sand beach is beautiful and is directly across the street from the main building ( less than a one minute walk ) with lots of chairs and umbrellas . There is a restaurant at the beach ( Passions) that serves delicious food with a romantic atmosphere that will allows vacationers to view an awesome sunset. This would make a wonderful wedding venue! This same restaurant couples during the day as a bar and lunch option with a more casual feel. Mangos restaurant (open air) will start your morning off well with a buffet or a la carte menu. Apparently they also have theme nights to vary the menu . Wifi is complimentary ,happy hours occur frequently, there is a children`s pool for the young ones, laundry facilities , and the fresh water pool with waterfalls looked very appealing during my visit. There is a mini mart and grocery store very close by for those who prefer to prepare something light for their meals or vary it up from restaurant eating. Staff were seen smiling and appeared very friendly. Clients tend to return which speaks for itself about the resort. Definitely a place worth checking out !

"Great trip "

   20-02-2017
We loved the resort. Great location and rooms, away from the hustle and bustle of the big resorts but still with a great beach. Staff was friendly and the concierge Mayra was absolutely fantastic. Her advice made the trip special and she worked tirelessely to book us excursions and made sure we had a good time. I cannot speak highly enough about her hospitality and customer service. Would come back again

"Wonderful "

What a wonderful little resort. We only got to stay here a few night, but are going to try and stay longer the next time we are on the island next year. Very friendly and unique cute rooms. Great beach and two greats restaurants. A gem on this beautiful island.

"Quaint Hotel, Indifferent Service, Fun Vacation"

   19-02-2017
We stayed at the Amsterdam Manor Resort for two weeks in the summer of 2016. While there was both good and not so good, our vacation was a lot of fun. The hotel itself is very well kept. Our room was a decent size with high ceilings, a small well appointed kitchenette with a fridge, gas cooktop, microwave and pots and pans. There is a shower equipped bathroom. The Super Foods, grocery store is about a 10 minute walk from the hotel, and stocked with daily staples, alcohol, lots of Dutch foods, baked goods, and dutch candies/liquorice. Usually we made breakfast in our room and packed a small collapsible cooler with sandwiches drinks and snacks for the day at the beach. In the evening we went out for dinner most nights. Although there are a few options, it’s expensive to eat out at a restaurant in Aruba. We ate once at the hotel restaurant, which was good. Most other nights we walked to the High-rise Hotel district or Alhambra Casino/Mall area to eat. We went to the Horizons Bar, in the Amsterdam Manor on the second night. Unfortunately it left a bad taste in our mouths and wallet, so we never went back. We had what was described as a Sangria, and while it had a lot of ingredients, it was not a good drink. It was supposed to be happy hour (two for the price of one) and was supposed to be a “double” When I saw that each drink was $14, I was befuddled. So does that mean the regular price of the drink is $28 each? $56 for two drinks? I enquired at the front desk. They were however unable or unwilling to resolve the situation, and we were told we’d have to track down the bartender and ask him ourselves. We didn’t bother, but also did not go back to the hotel bar or restaurant for the remainder of our two weeks there. Sad that the hotel didn’t take the time to address this, or have a bit more experience in customer service, as we would have then patronized the resort facilities much more. Instead we went off resort for dining etc. There are better options, which are noted below. Beach. If you’ve read our past reviews, you will know we are beach people. The beach in Aruba is nice and sandy but compact in size with the main road the back side and about 200’ of sand before you hit the ocean. There are a good number of people within the beach area, so it is not quiet, serene and isolated. There is no visible coral in the water, in fact the water is quite clouded with sand from the surf, most every day. It is a little cooler that many other parts of the Caribbean also. The bouyed swimming area is not too far from shore, and is kind of small, if you like to swim a long ways, like I do. I found no undertow or anything else that made swimming difficult, other than the lack of clarity in the water (no fish or coral to see.). The waves are gentle, and the constant breeze makes lounging on the beach comfortably warm. It felt like the equivalent of 26C most days with the air temperature being 31-32. You can still sunburn so use sunscreen. There are jet skis and every couple of days it seemed like someone was piloting a quad coptor over our heads. On the main road there are intermittent times when people drive by with the loud car stereos. I have my Ipod and good headphones so most of the time, it wasn’t too bothersome. Fitness activities. The hotel puts on a few activities, which we did not partake, but with the consistent offshore breeze, in the morning and evening you can jog along the beach pathways and road, fairly comfortably. There is a fairly good gym next door at the La Cabana. I got a membership there and used it almost every morning. Most nights we left the hotel and walked to have dinner. A 20-25 minute walk to the left takes you to the Divi Beach, Alhambra Casino/Mall area, with several eating options and shops. The first night we went to Pizza Joes (plastic table and chairs outdoor eatery.) It was $55 for two beer and two single servings of lasagna. A little bit further we discovered “A Twist of Flavours” bistro/eatery. This was probably our favorite and about the best value we found. About $35 gets you two nice entrees and a glass of wine each or other beverage. In the other direction about a 35 minute walk to the right, takes you to the high rise hotel district. Quite a vibrant area at night with lots of shopping and restaurants. There was another little restaurant across the street from the La Hacienda, which also offered a fairly good value for dinner, otherwise most places you will be looking at around $100 per couple. A few fast food options downtown, if you want to save a few bucks. There’s a nice variety of clothing stores and I found some pretty unique men’s wear to bring back with me. Word of caution; Divi Resorts has a really innocuous and ever present timeshare sales gimmick going on downtown. We are seasoned travellers and almost got taken in. If you search the web, you will find out how bad this North Carolina based timeshare is regarded. They have an unacceptable BBB rating. Just say no thanks, when you win the prize. We did one all day excursion, which was a great way to experience the island (4x4, cave, ostrich farm, donkey farm, and baby beach.) We also took the bus to downtown Oranjestad, to take in the local culture. We certainly enjoyed our stay in Aruba. The people, are interesting and very nice. The mix of cultures makes it a unique experience. And we liked the change from the stereotypical all inclusives. Things to bring; Collapsable cooler, mosquito lotion/spray (if you plan on walking at night) baby powder or foot powder, if you plan to walk or jog a lot to ward off blisters. Good earbuds/headphones if you like to nap on the beach. Check out Dutch foods on the ‘net before you go, so you know all the things that you want to sample when you arrive!

"So happy we chose this spot!"

Nicely situated & away from the high rise hotels! Quick taxi to get to all of the wonderful restaurants without having to stay in the middle of all those large hotels & masses of people. Beach area is beautiful with plenty of thatched umbrellas for shade. We already have the next trip planned and we sent our daughter there for her honeymoon!
