Good - resort nice clean, entertainment is good, changed bed sheet everyday Bed comfortable, water pressure good, beach white sand, lots ramp for handicapped, small vendors lobby, coffee bar lobby served best Spanish coffee.big lobby bar hang around. Money exchange front dest lower, same lobby bank higher 3 pesos need passport. French, Italian restaurant is not bad nothing special. Cuban not bad. Two ala cart you allowed for week. Disco night beach. No mosquitoes or flies for months of June. Ghost entertainment bar Friday night. Different ages & nationality mostly Canadian. Lots bedsun on the beaches & shade. Small bar beaches. Bring your mug their cups small. Bad- Only one snack bar 24 hrs luna side long walk if you're on Mares side. Not front beach long walked. Beaches open to public careful with your belongings. Rough sand water not flat. AC not working good, TV English Channel broken speakers reception not good. No wifi room only works at lobby for 1 hr. 1.50 pesos. They give you one bottle but you can refill bar. Mares side only one elevator working. Luna's side stairs up 3 floor. Buffet food eat same for one week stay. Room outdated but clean.Hloguin airport very small nothing to buy duty free suck. Better make your sandwich before leaving resort. Staff most are friendly some are not. Local drinks not strong. Smoked everywhere is free smoking not healthy family resort. Ugly-Picture showing on website future renovation Luna side. However resort outdated Need a lot renovation on both side resort De Mares & Luna. I booked I thought my room modern I was disappointed. I'll not come back on this resort. Mini bar only one bottle water very limited. Holguin airport nobody speak English they need to call someone CSR I waited for one hr. When I lost my luggage for week.

"Third and last trip"

   18-07-2017
This is our family's third and last visit to the resort. We stayed for 8 days and for the first time, we were actually glad when the vacation ended. I will provide a detail review based on my experience last week. Beach - The beach gets 5 stars. We have travelled to Mexico and Jamaica and none of the beaches come close to this. Beautiful turquoise colors with crystal clear waters. Some parts tend to be more rocky and covered with sharp sea shells. Few travelers did get cut on the corals while we were there so I suggest wearing water shoes. There was a ton of locals everyday on the beach. We had a few approach us asking for clothes, shoes, soap, shampoo, etc. But in general, they didn't bother us much. We didn't feel unsafe leaving our belongings behind when we went to swim in the ocean. Rooms - When we arrived, we were initially provided a room on the Mares side on the first floor. It was horrible. The mattress was way past its usage life. You can literally feel the individual coils push against your body. My husband's mattress had a dip in the middle which made the first night very uncomfortable. The bathroom as everybody mentioned is in dire need of a full renovation. The shower head did not work and the water trickled down in one little stream. We called the front desk who sent a tech to fix it. The toilet was chipped and the black chipped marks made it look extremely gross. I came prepared with toilet seat covers, but it was still gross. The sink was probably clogged as the water took a long time to drain. We asked to be switched to one of the renovated rooms the next day and they did accommodate us. The newer room was much better. It was freshly painted in light blue, the bathroom had a newer toilet, the light was brighter (used pot lights) and the shower head worked well. The mattress was also more comfortable than the first room. Bugs - In the first room, we had several little bugs that looked like spiders on our table. They were all over my contact lens case and solution. I don't know what they were, but they looked like spiders and were very fast (gross). In the newer room, we had a roach visit us along with some big red ants with wings. We didn't experience any mosquitoes which was great since the lobby bar is not covered. Towards the end of our trip, the mosquitoes started to come in so I guess we went just before the mosquito season. Food - We ate mostly at the snack bar for reasons I will mention later. We had two ala cartes (International and Italian) and one lobster dinner for returning guest. International was good. Lobster dinner was good (free so not complaining). Italian not so much. It was hot and stuffy and the service was extremely slow. Ice cream towards the end was served in liquid form probably because the waitress took so long to bring it to the table. The buffet was the same routine everyday. It was extremely crowded and there were long line ups for the grilled meat section and the pasta section. Some of the travelers were just plain rude and cut lines. They had lot of fresh fruits. Mango was in season so we ate a lot of those. Just try to get them as soon as they cut them and bring them out otherwise you will be sharing your fruit with the fruit flies (lots of them). Service - This was a huge let down and made our vacation unpleasant. I am not saying all of the servers were bad; we got great service at the snack bar. However, the service in the buffet area was lacking. We felt ignored on many occasions. We had to personally walk up to a server, point to where we were sitting and ask to be served water/drinks/coffee. Despite that, we were still not served. But the tables near us kept getting their drinks refilled. I am not sure what the issue was. It wasn't like we didn't tip them. It made the eating experience very uncomfortable to a point where we just avoided as much as possible, hence the frequent trips to the snack bar. We did complain to the General Manager and received an apology; however, there was no improvement in the service. In speaking with other guests, it appeared they faced the same issue. In the end, they served their own drinks, coffee, etc which now that I think about it, we should have done as well. In addition, we also heard frequent jabs about our race in Spanish. We have taken Spanish classes so we understand bits and pieces. We felt out of place and I couldn't wait to get out there and return back to Canada. Overall, the trip was disappointing. Happy that we got a really cheap price otherwise it would not have been worth it.

"Amazing Beach "

   18-07-2017
Just returned from this hotel after 11 nights stay 10 of us in the party to celebrate my son's 30th Birthday. When we arrived we we amazed at the beautiful surroundings of this hotel, the beach was stunning out of this world. Our rooms were basic but spotlessly clean, towels changed daily and water in fridge. Our first impression of the dinning room was this is good but i have to say after 11 days of the same menu for both lunchtime and evening meal it got very boring. Sometimes there wasn't any clean plates , glasses or bread. We went to the A-La Cart restaurants the international was lovely staff were so attentive also the Italian. Steak and lobster £15 per person was ok Mediterranean was OK. Bar staff were really good. The girl in snack bar was quite rude at first until we gave her a tip and she changed her attitude towards us. We did 2 trips out while we were there with Thomas Cook both well worth doing Cuban life plus were you go to the original India village fantastic trip. We took gifts for children books pens and sweets also toiletries which were gratefully accepted and the smile on the kids faces was priceless. The entertainment at this hotel was very poor around the main bar of an evening some nights not even background music, I know they have shows in the theatre but we didn't want to go in there. In 11 nights that we were there they had 4 fashion shows that's not entertainment, they would have a singer on around 5 o'clock some nights before evening meal time . I know i seen to be complaining a lot but i was so disappointed and I feel that if we hadn't have been a large group I would have been lost for sure.

"Family."

Beautiful hotel and beach. Excellent staffing. Definitely I will come back. The food is wonderful. The best restaurant is the Italiano's. The beach is amusing with white sand. I enjoy the show at night. The swimming pool is very clean.

"Cuba 17"

   13-07-2017
We have just returned from our two week holiday. We grew to love this hotel, our initial impressions were of a tired run down place due to our first room in the Mares side smelling of damp and with a crack in the patio door glass, the outlook over the theatre wasn't great either and would have been too close to the music at nights We moved to the quieter and nicer in our view Luna side, block 8, ground floor room. Much better room, clean but could do with a refurb which the hotel is working on. Its a 5/7min walk from the room to the main Mares side but is only 2mins to the amazing beach. Plus side: Great friendly staff, great welcome and farewell Good choice and quality of food, we have stayed at Playa Pesquero before and it wasn't as good as at Luna Mares Beach great, pools good No issues getting loungers Catamarans, canoes and pedalloes free Snorkelling good, more fish on Luna side of beech Jacuzzi good, tennis good Luna bar nice, live music some nights too No cockroaches or mosquito's! 1hr internet in Mares reception for 1.5CUC Negative side: Our ceiling air con unit leaked twice causing our own mini indoor pool, but was fixed eventually The Cuban and Mediterranean restaurants are actually one with the exact same menu! Nasty poo smells near the Mares side bar and near the shower on the Luna pool side, drainage needs a look at! Souvenir stalls expensive compared to same items bought in Holguin.. 50% more! Sauna not ready, being refurbed We would return and stay on the Luna side again and we recommend a days taxi tour to Holguin in an original 50's American car
