Over Florida Hotel

"The beauty will always be remembered"

What a fantastic stay at Hotel Florida! One of the nicest gems I had been in years of traveling. The staff were very very helpful and utmost friendly, like the most Cuban people. The hotel is very well situated in the Old Havana and near so many delightful restaurants etc. The rooms very spacious and very well kept! The cherry on top, was the beautiful hand written letter of our room attendant, thanking us for our stay! Breakfast was also good! Highly recommended in world contacts!

"Best place to be in Havana old town"

we stayed here for 3 nights in August before our stay in Varadero . When we arrived they offered us a choice of room either the double room we had booked or there was a suite which was on the quieter side of the hotel. We looked at both rooms and decided to pay the extra as the suite was lovely , it was a massive bedroom, bathroom and sitting room with tv and 2 balconies , the doors were so high and the room was really grand , There was also a fridge/minibar, the only thing missing was coffee making facilities, but we made up for that by having the rum from the mini bar instead for end of evening tipple. The bathroom was spacious and had a decent shower and very clean. Outside the room was a lovely gallery overlooking the lobby where you could sit on comfy sofas and watch the world go by. All in all a very nice room so oldy worldy it was fantastic. Downstairs you can either get the lift or go down the beautiful staircase and see the lovely stained glass windows above. The lobby is a lovely place to sit and have a quick mojito before you set off on the town. There is a salsa bar at night which was quite entertaining watching the locals doing salsa dance. There is also a piano bar which is a bit quieter. The breakfasts were ok but as other comments say were a little bit bland and some things we just didn't know what they were ? there is sufficient to eat though and kept us going until lunch time. The hotel is in the best old town street and it doesn't matter which way you walk outside of the door there is plenty to see. We found the Floridita where the Hemingsway bar is at the end of the street (turn right outside the front door) Turn left and you head towards the sea with lots of distractions on the way. The town is fantastic lots of old cars and buildings to see on every corner. We took an old car/taxi and saw all the main sights in a couple of hours and did the rest by foot. Service was ok but I feel Cubans have not quite got the hang of customer care like we are used to in other countries but some staff are lovely. A really nice hotel and a must stay place in Havana

"Beautiful hotel in the heart of old Havana"

This hotel is so beautiful that day trippers visit and take photos of the courtyard! Breakfast was good, hot & cold buffet, scrambled egg / sausage to fruit / cereal. The rooms, quite basic but adequate, aircon + large bathrooms, safe, beds were comfy - this is a hotel that you use to explore the city. If you want to stay indoors all day & have tiffin then book hotel ingilterra or telegraph. If you like salsa then the hotel has a great bar with dancing & drinking till 1am - the downside is kicking out time with revellers still continuing the party out onto the street. the only other downside is the wifi but that's a problem all over Cuba. The tall concierge (can't remember his name) was excellent, sorts you anything you want - instant taxi, restaurants, etc,. Would I stay here again - Absolutely!!

"Beautiful / Charming Hotel - Great value for money, Great location."

This hotel is just so grand - yes, the rooms are a little outdated, however, the charm of the rooms was not lost on us and had that beautiful vintage feel to it. Our first room for the 3 nights -we had high ceilings and a french doors with a little balcony. View wasn't great but - we didn't mind. Bathroom had a vintage feel but very clean and water pressure was great. The overall room was clean. Our 4th night was on the second floor - ceilings were not as high and the rooms were not as large, but still had character and charm. Breakfast was alright for Cuban standards. Like most food in Cuba, not very tasty. However, there was a variety of hot and cold food. We ate heaps knowing that food wasn't much better in the restaurants. The hotel also has a little bar that is known for its salsa music and dancing which was very fun. (though take ear plugs for when sleeping as you may hear the music - I had ear plugs) There is so much potential growth for this hotel, if I was the manager, I would have salsa classes during the day and guests can be ready for the evening. Majority of the staff were lovely. The Concierge, he was fantastic and very helpful. Reception - check in was smooth. However if you arrive early - be prepared for a 4pm check in -this is due to laundry service, we later found out, you may get a early check in if there are rooms available. Some of the Reception desk are helpful. But, overall they were good. In addition the tour desk, i feel they need more training in assisting guests. One of the ladies behind the desk, just seemed like she didn't want to be there. Location was fantastic. In the heart of everything - you step out and you're in the middle of it all. All you need to do is venture around the corners to see all those beautiful coloured homes and 1950's cars. Location is definitely their 5 star selling point. The Famous Floridita and their daquaires is just a 5min walk. I do highly recommend this hotel.

"A Real Experience of Havana"

My husband and I spent three nights at this hotel and it is an excellent base from which to explore the heart of old Havana. The building is magnificent and full of character. Our room was airy and spacious. The bed was clean and comfortable, the bathroom spacious and functional. There was a plentiful, if slightly spasmodic, supply of hot water. Breakfast included some slightly odd choices by European standards, but there is reasonable coffee and egg dishes. The salsa club is tremendous fun and well worth a visit to see the skill and exhuberance of the dancers. We had a nice stay here and found it easy to walk to all the key sites. I read with interest the detailed review from the guest who had money stolen. A tip for travellers; cash is king in Cuba and the best way is to take tidy twenty pound notes, which can be exchanged for CUCs in the Cambio just along the road. The safes in the hotel work on the room card, which is presumably accessible to anyone with a master key. Use a money belt and/or cross body bag. Havana is a safe city, take your cash with you.
