Our favorite

Parque Central, de naam zegt het al, ligt aan het centrale park, een druk bezocht park, midden in bruisend Havana. Het hotel ligt tussen de hotels Telegrafo en Inglaterra aan de ene kant en hotel Plaza aan de andere kant. Aan de rand van de oude binnenstad, waar u vanuit de comfortabele hotellobby zo in wandelt. De kamers zijn goed ingericht, conform de standaard van Europese stadhotels. Het is geen toeval dat zakenlieden, diplomaten en airline crews hier graag vertoeven. Het hotel biedt verder uitstekende eet- en drinkgelegenheden, en ‘last but not least’, de echte ‘cherry on the cake’, een heerlijk zwembad op het dakterras.

Een absoluut hoogtepunt tijdens uw rondreis door Cuba is de stad Havana, de fascinerende hoofdstad van Cuba. Veelal zal Havana uw beginpunt zijn van uw vakantie in Cuba of tevens uw eindpunt van uw reis. Havana is hoe dan ook een stad waar u minstens 3 dagen moet verblijven; er is immers zo veel te zien en te doen dat het zonde is om Havana in een sneller tempo te bezoeken.
Bovenal is Havana een gezellige stad met vele Spaans-koloniale overblijfselen. Het is er altijd druk en gezellig en overdag zijn de Amerikaanse auto's uit de vijftiger jaren een opvallend straatbeeld.

Excellent service especially Raul in the down stairs bar,who serviced us regularly. The sommelier in the Hotel restaurant had an excellent understanding of wines and a good collection of reasonably priced international wines. Our accomodation was very nice with a spacious and comfortable room. Excellent location to major attractions.

We were very pleased with our short stay at the Iberostar Parque Central. The hotel is perfectly situated for what we had planned in Havana (visiting old town & the old Colonial Forts etc). Along with the great location we were very impressed with the staff who were very accommodating and helpful especially when we requested for assistance with getting about and local information. The hotel also has amazing views from the roof bar!

We found our selves in this hotel for the night after days of travel after the irma evacuation, it was like being transported back to the 1920s and we was so grateful for how we was treated, fantastic bar and massive selection at breakfast, the location is ideal and we would definitely return and stay if we had the chance

What can I say! My wife, my daughter and I stayed here from 10th August until 14th August 2017 and then again on the 23rd August. My daughter has special needs and we contacted the hotel a few months prior to make arrangements for her. On our arrival, not only was everything exactly to requirements but they took our daughter to their hearts and we were treated like royalty!! The interesting thing was that....they treat everyone like that!! Jose, the manager, greeted us personally and everything he said was sincere not just lip service. The staff were wonderful. Nothing was a problem and every one of them wanted to help, we were always greeted with a warm genuine smile and we really felt that they really enjoyed their work. We love to "people watch" and both my wife and I have worked in the retail industry for some time and can spot when it's fake or not. We sat in the bar and watched the attention to detail and how the staff interacted with their customers....this was definitely not fake! We have been fortunate to stay in many lovely hotels around the world but this was the first time we have experienced a genuine perfect balance between being friendly and excellent service. From a more practical point of view...it's an excellent location, the food is good, the breakfast bar is plentiful, the rooms are beautiful (we stayed in the older colonial part of the hotel) and were very comfortable. Beds and pillows were comfy. Lobby bar and cocktails are brilliant and at a very reasonable price. The roof pool is a must! It has a wonderful view of the square, food and drink service, spotlessly clean (as is the whole hotel!) and there is live music as well!! We love Havana and the Cuban people. We were not intending to go back to Havana for a few years but purely on our experience here, we will make a point of seeing our new friends soon. All of the staff were amazing but a few special thank you's: Rebecca at the reception desk, thank you for all your help and warmth you showed us. The "doormen", excellent local knowledge and willingness to help. A VERY special thank you to Priscilla on the management team, we have a new friend and really hope we get to meet you again soon. And Jose....what can we say, I know that this is your job to look after people and to ensure that your staff do the same but you are incredible! You made us feel as if we were at home and that you were a long lost family member we had come to visit. I really can't thank you enough for the love and warmth that you showed us and especially Vicky. You and Priscilla have huge hearts and are not afraid to show it. You know why this holiday was so important to Vicky and you made it so very special. We can't thank you enough and hope that we keep in touch and meet again soon. Thank you

"Very Poor Service Commitment"

Prior to leaving the U.K. I sent a personal E Mail directly to the General Manager to make a request. The fact that I did not receive a reply lowered my expectations of this hotel and created a very negative first impression. On arrival I was immediately impressed by the very grand lobby however this was short lived as I arrived at the check in desk to be advised that I was in the "Modern Wing" and not this one. I was directed with my luggage to a separate building. This is in no way the fault of the hotel but of the booking agency, who failed to make me aware that the hotel was in two sections and to give me a choice. That said, getting to the modern section involved going down and up two spiral staircases, with luggage (the lift wasn't working) and no assistance was offered. Two of the safety rails on the staircases had dangerously loose safety rails, creating a serious Health and Safety breach. The modern section reception wasn't air conditioned and the temperature was very uncomfortable. I was given my room assignment and was absolutely horrified at what I found. My room was number 1210 and was a room for the disabled. Whilst being large, the bedroom had only two very tiny porthole style windows and this made it very dark and gloomy, almost depressing. Equally disappointingly, the air conditioning wasn't working. I immediately reported this and a technician did attend and got it working, though just at a trickle. It took 90 minutes for the room to begin to cool and this was only when the internal bedroom door was closed. After a 12 hour journey I intended taking a long soak in the large bath tub however there was no plug so this was not possible. The next morning I spoke to reception and to the tour company rep. It wasn't possible to be relocated to the main wing unless I paid an additional $120 per night however I was moved to another room in the modern Wing. This room (1501) was perfectly fine. The air conditioning was powerful and effective, there was a large patio-style door opening onto a verandah, and the bath tub had a plug. Had this standard have been met on check in I would have been perfectly satisfied. The one negative of the room switch was that the staff failed to transfer my bags. When I asked whether this had been done I was advised that it was up to me to do it. Very, very poor service commitment. Very strangely for a hotel that claims 5* status, no bottled water was provided in the rooms. The hotel also made a charge were a guest to use the in room coffee maker. Iberostar has got its business model very wrong. Breakfast could be taken in the restaurant in either wing of the hotel. On the first morning I ate in the modern wing and the staff were quite focussed and helpful. Two musicians were playing soothing classical music and I liked the atmosphere. There was a decent selection of continental and cooked buffet and all items were fresh. This breakfast room was more of a cafeteria style. On my second day I ate breakfast in the old wing. Whilst being much busier, there was a much wider choice. The style and presentation of this location was much grander than in the modern wing, including the presence of table linen. Hotel staff advised me that the two buffets were identical. They were not. There is a swimming pool and lounge area on the roof of both wings. There was an absence of any form of shade and this made the heat of the direct sun unbearable. Staff were taking drinks orders however I could not see any location for obtaining pool towels, though there must have been a point for this as many loungers had used towels on them. These had not been cleared and this made it impossible to know which Ioungers were available. At 17:00 there were none that were not occupied or that had a towel on them when, in reality, there were less than 10 people present in the pool area. The Lobby Bar Portico was the main bar in the impressive main lobby of the old wing. Staff were attentive taking drink and light snack orders. Entertainment started about 22:15 each evening, though the advertising suggested that this would be at 21:00. Each evening this was energetic and enjoyable. Check out was a very bad experience. The receptionist insisted that I'd used the mini bar, which I had not. The lady was quite confrontational and only reluctantly removed the single charge. There was no satisfaction check and no farewell comment. Most disappointing was the fact that I was not offered any assistance with my baggage. Given that I had to carry this up and down two flights of stairs (lift still not working at one end) this was appalling customer service and typifies where this hotel fails most significantly. There were some fine examples of staff being kind and courteous and this was appreciated. Sadly, however, there were far too many examples of very poor service right the way through the organisation and this will ultimately, and quite rightly so, cost it business as excellence in customer service is the key differentiator that makes a hotel stand out for good or for bad. Sadly, The Parque Central stands out for all the wrong reasons. There are other hotels of quality in the immediate area and I would certainly consider these were I to find myself in Havana again.
