Over Santa Isabel Hotel

"Our stay at Santa Isabel Hotel @Havana"

me and my family stayed at this hotel for 4 night in August 2017. This hotel is very charming and perfectly located to visit Old Habana. Rooms are old-style but very confortable and (very important in August!) also very well conditioned. The breakfast and related service should be definitely improved. Unfortunately we were 3 persons and we were not able (through Booking.com) to have a junior suite or something like it and we had to book 2 rooms per night. Therefore price-performances were expensive. Ask for suite, they have it!

"Not worth the money"

Arrived to be told that we were booked in to a Double room even though our Travel Agent had requested a Twin room for us. We checked with the agent after the holiday and the Hotel had confirmed the receipt of the request and raised no issues prior to our holiday. We would have accepted and apology if this was a mistake due to overbooking, however we were shocked when the lady at reception went on to try and sell us a Twin room upgrade for 20cuc a night. We refused this as we thought she was having a laugh. We checked their site upon our return to find that they were advertising both twins and doubles at the same price, I guess the woman is pocketing this extra cash herself. The room itself was much smaller that it appears in pictures and very dark. We arrived before dinner wanting a shower and noticed that both the big towels had stains on them. Went downstairs to ask for new towels and were told to leave it they'll send some up. The lady seemed rather angry with our request so we didn't push this. We came back 4 hours later to the same towels, we then noticed that the bed sheet had brown stains on it too. Not what you would expect for the price they charge for their rooms. It was late so we turned it around and went to bed. We took the sheet off the next morning and left it on the floor. The cleaning lady changed the towels, but put the same sheet back on the bed. We noticed this very late the next night and there was no one at reception to help, waited for 25mins. We left a note with a tip the next morning asking for it to be changed and it was, we also got ourselves softer towels for it. Upon checking out the (same) woman at reception asked us if we used the mini bar twice, we said no both times. She pulled a face called the bell boy over and asked him to go and check. We stood there awkwardly for 10mins until he returned to confirm this. I do agree that the location is great, the building looks lovely from the outside and breakfast was decent. However this doesn't make it worth more than a £30-40 a night casa. I think we were hoping for something special having read all the good reviews. Regretted spending extra to stay here. If you're looking at booking look at other places, there are plenty around old town. I'm not someone with high standards and don't usually write reviews, but I felt like I had to for this. Please note that the quality of service here had nothing to do with Cuba, we stayed in Valadero after this and the hotel there was perfect in comparison.

"Big disappointment"

I booked hotel Santa Isabel well in advance based on good reviews and excellent location. When we arrived we were told that hotel was full and we have to walk few blocks to the another hotel. We were looking forward to stay at Santa Isabel and were very upset that we were not notified about any change. It was very unprofessional and tourist should not be inconvenienced and disappointed like we were.

"Hotel in Old Havana"

People were nice but checking in and out was a nightmare. I have a Stonegate bank credit card which is supposed to work in Cuba but it did not at the hotel. The credit card did work at one of the ATM'S. Block of 4 ATM's and the first one said declined and the 2nd one worked perfectly. Hotel was dated but wanted to be in the area so it worked out fine for this trip. This hotel is not worth the money paid!

"My Favorte in Havana"

Every once in a while you stumble upon a hotel in your travels that just feels right - you wake up in your room and you know that your in Paris, or Rome or in this case Havana. The location is wonderful - on a square close to most of the attractions. Our room was lovely ( ok - we were upgraded to the Presidential Suite ) but our friends (not in the presidential suite) had a nice room as well. I can't say that it has a lot of amenities, but its a tastefully done, clean hotel. The old cage elevator is remarkable. The café that opens onto the square is a nice place to enjoy morning breakfast or afternoon cocktail. The roof top is a great place to take in the view. Try and stay on the first floor of hotel rooms - we had a high ceilinged room with a lovely balcony that overlooked the square.
