"Spectacular setting, OK hotel on Cuban 2017 standards"

The Horizontes Los Jazmines is an unusual place with a restored central building (brilliant pink) and a number of smaller cabins. The central building is 1960s-vintage. Was it built for Soviet visitors? Hard to say. Regardless, it has been modernized and is in pretty good repair on Cuban standards (as of 2017). We had hot water, adequate towels, soap, and a toilet that worked, so we certainly can't complain. And the cleanliness was pretty good on Cuban standards. As others have noted, the view is spectacular. The restaurant was better than other hotel restaurants that we visited on our trip. Still, it's hard to know how they can destroy chicken as thoroughly as they do. I rated the hotel as very good, but really it is half way between average and very good.

"Amazing view"

I spent two nights here. I had a bungalow ("junior suite"), which turned out to be a good idea. The room was very well kept and clean, staff were friendly. Tour buses come to the viewing platform next to the hotel. You get the view from almost everywhere in the hotel. The pool is very nice and there is a good restaurant 50m from the hotel. You can start lots of activities directly from the hotel, so it's no problem to be a bit outside of the town of Viñales.

"Great views."

As with most contributors I agree that this hotel is all about the views which are absolutely stunning. The block separate from the main hotel is much more peaceful than the main hotel. Try and make sure you have enough cash before you get here, they will not exchange GBP and their rates for Euros are poorer than any other hotel we stayed in. Breakfast is very average and the snacks below par. A couple of good restaurants nearby so don't worry too much about food. The pool has a great aspect but I had a Dickie tummy the day after swimming in here and that was the only difference between me and Sue who didn't get the same. We got dropped off in Vignales after a day tour and walked back to the hotel which takes you past the visitor centre and takes a pleasant hour. There are plenty of taxis if you don't want to walk. The room was clean but tired, the staff don't try too hard as they have a very captive audience. It's all about the view!

"only paying for the view - dirty room, stabbed with bed spring, missing room items, keys work on other rooms, mouldy beds"

We stayed in the main hotel building in the cheapest rooms they had. Vinales was beautiful and their view is what allows them to charge what they do. we had multiple issues... on check in it was unclear that the charge based on occupancy - single or double. all the rooms have 2 beds in them, but they called them double or single rooms, which was initially very confusing. they took 5 passports and took 5 signatures for the rooms, but charged us for 1 less person. 2 hours later they realised they had undercharged and came to us to ask for more money. they also gave my mum a view of the car park! i had the same type of room as two couples i was travelling with - except my room seemed to have all the issues. my bedside lamp only flickered on when you balance the switch between on and off and the bulb was touching the lamp. others had a fridge, i didnt. the bathroom light didnt work and the tall lamp had exposed cables. i used the toilet to discovered someone elses very old toilet tissue (in cuba you must put it in the bin not down the toilet) in the bathroom bin - made me wonder what else hadn't been cleaned. the final insult was when i went to bed and slid in to be sliced down my thigh with an exposed sharp mattress spring sticking out of the edge of the bed. when we talked to the receptionist the next day she told me - well you had another bed? and no you cant have any money back because you used all the facilities. further to this - my dad got our keys muddled but it didnt matter - my key worked on his room! and i saw several mouldy mattresses being moved around the hotel. they saved a "terrible" review because in the end they gave me 30% off and also its difficult to remember that they are completely government run and they would get in trouble if they do something the government isn't happy with.

"It's All About the View!"

The only reason to stay here is for the view! I had a junior suite (in my opinion, the only option at this hotel) and the view was amazing. The suite had a private patio and swing that overlooked the valley. The room was spacious but could really use an update. For the high rate, I wouldn't expect a broken shower head or torn curtains. The food at the restaurant was average. On my second night, they only offered an expensive buffet with no other options. Regardless of the average rooms, food, and service, I would still recommend the experience of the junior suite. I personally don't think a regular room would have been worth it.
