"vacation"

   24-02-2017
Acoya was nice but was not quite as nice as anticipated. We were there on timeshare exchange and truly feel the resort did not quite deserve their high rating. The unit we stayed in was nice but had maintenance issues. If you want a beach vacation not the place. The beach they shuttle you to is full of tourists and very small. We rented a car and were so happy we did...to go to superb beaches and restaurants. The restaurant at hotel was painfully slow...I know Americans expect fast service but truly this was slow but everyone was nice same as at resort. Our only complaint was that it was not an exceptional property.

"Wonderfull holiday"

   21-02-2017
We (4 adults) had a wonderfull holiday (14 nights) in one of de villa's of Acqoya. It was a verry good and large villa with 2 seperaet sleeping rooms and connected bad rooms. Every day roomservice to clean our villa and have fresh towels. Excelant service.

"Good location, Friendly staff, Average resort."

   20-02-2017
We just got back from spending a week at Acoya Private Residence Club in Curacao, a new II resort. It was our first time on the island and we exchanged into the resort using one of our timeshare units for the week. The property consists of a circular driveway. There are villas on the outer ring and part of the inner ring. There are two buildings on the inner ring which house the other rooms. Contact me if you want a resort map. There are 116 total units at the property; 34 Deluxe Rooms, 26 2BR units, 18 3 BR units, 1 4BR suite and 37 private villas (some with pools). I think the timeshare units are the 2 & 3 bedroom units and the villas are privately owned. We were in room 3120, which was a ground floor unit with no view. Given the resort location, I’m not sure if any of the rooms not in the main building (overlooking the pool) have a view. The property is 220 volt, so you need to bring adapters and/or converters. We were confirmed for a 1 BR & got a 2BR; no real 1 BR units other than the private villas. There is free parking at the resort, and as per the II confirmation, there is a $45 government tax for the week assessed. The staff was friendly, especially Harrold. He was there when we checked in and throughout our stay, was very helpful. The room was clean and very nice, as were the grounds. There is a pool on site, and the resort has a shuttle that takes you to the beach and supermarket. It leaves at 9:00 am and 2:00 pm. If you take the later shuttle, you need to get a taxi back. Since the beaches charge an entrance fee and charge for loungers, the resort gives you tickets for entrance and loungers. We had a car, so we just drove the 5 minutes to the beach. We didn’t go to the pool, but noticed there were only about 10 loungers there, and you can get pool towels at the front desk. There is no hot tub at the pool, and only the bar/restaurant is located in the pool area. We only ate at the restaurant the first night we were there because the service was horrible. It was not busy at all (only us and one or two other tables) and it took almost an hour for them to bring us a salad and baba ganoush. While not near the beach, the resort is in a good location which is one of the things we liked about it. It was 5 minutes to the beach and 15 minutes to downtown Willemstad. There is free WIFI in the room and at the pool. Housekeeping comes in daily for a touch up and changes the linen twice a week, but they didn’t restock the toilet paper. We were not asked to do a timeshare tour, and you can arrange for airport shuttle for a fee. There is a spa and outdoor kids activity area on site, and a free laundry room in the main building. Our unit had a large kitchen with just the basics. There was lots of cabinet space, but not much in them because there was a china cabinet with the dishes & silverware. There were some pots & pans, an oven & stove top, toaster, coffee maker, microwave and full fridge. The kitchen really needed an update, and the lighting in the unit was weird. There was no light above the 4 seat kitchen table, but there was a chandelier over the seat in the living room. So, you really had to watch your head when you stood up. The living room had a new sofa, chair, coffee table and 40” flat screen TV. There were no king size beds in the unit (nor the property, I believe). The master bedroom had 2 twin beds put together, as did the second bedroom. The beds were comfortable as were the pillows. There was an armoire in each bedroom for your clothes and an end table on each side of the bed. The master bedroom armoire had a safe. There was a round table and 2 chairs on the patio (we had a first floor unit). The bathrooms were nice and looked recently remodeled. There was floor to ceiling tiles and corner showers with rainforest shower heads. However, there was a curved door on the showers and they were not really big. I’m not a big guy, but had a hard time shampooing my hair without hitting something with my elbows. This appeared to be a design flaw; since the shower was in a corner, they could have easily made the showers rectangular because there was wasted space. There was only one towel rack by shower so there wasn’t a place to hang anything by the sink. We did have a few maintenance issues that were, for the most part addressed. The sink in one of the bathrooms leaked, which I’m not sure if they fixed because the next day, we found water on the kitchen floor, which either came from the shower or sink in the bathroom. Also, my shower wasn’t draining properly (but did eventually drain) and one morning flooded the bathroom. There were no paper towels in the unit and there were fruit fly type files in the unit, although we didn’t have any fruit. None of the bedrooms had alarm clocks, which we found strange. We only went to two of the beaches on the island. Since the resort gave tickets to Maduro Ocean Club at Mambo Beach, we went there most of the time. It was a very nice beach with great views and plenty of places to eat. However, I would not recommend eating there. The one time we did, I saw the bar staff cleaning the glasses by just running them under water and rubbing them with their hands. They didn’t use soap; YUCK! The cruise ships run their tours & beach days there, so there are a lot of cruise shippers coming in and out, some looking around and some staying. This makes it a bit more crowded, but not a problem at all. One day we drove to Jan Thiel beach, which was no more than 10 minutes past Mambo Beach. It too was a great beach with wonderful views and plenty of places to eat. We paid the $3.50 per person beach fee and $3.50 per person lounger rental. Since it was farther away from downtown, there were no cruise shippers and more Dutch. The Also to note, the gas stations on the island don’t take credit cards and give you Guilders back as change so plan accordingly. Overall, we had a great time and would absolutely return to the island. While the resort was nice and in a good location I don’t think really deserves the II gold rating it has. When we return to the island, we will look at other places to stay.

"Quiet and relaxing!"

   17-02-2017
Myself and three friends visited the Acoya Feb.5 to Feb.13, 2017. The ride from the airport to the hotel was about a half hour which was great after a long day of travelling. Villas; The villa we had was a 2 bedroom, 3 bathroom one with a large kitchen, large living area and a beautiful private terrace. It had all the comforts of home and was very clean. The resort is small so the villa was perfectly located, close to the pool area, restaurant and front desk. Restaurant; The restaurant was next to the pool area which gave it a nice atmosphere for dinners. There was a lot to choose from on the menu. Food was okay. They only had a buffet breakfast which I didn't like because I don't eat a lot for breakfast and just prefer coffee and toast. Staff; Staff were friendly and accommodating! Housekeeping; Housekeeping did a great job but didn't leave enough toilet paper. We had to keep asking for toilet paper which wasn't a problem getting at all. Location; The Acoya is not beach front, however they do have a small man made beach next to the pool which I really liked. The pool was very clean. There was never a problem getting a chair. There are public beaches which are only a short cab ride away, which was a great way to spend the afternoon! There is a very good Chinese restaurant that is only a short walk away which had the best Chinese food I have ever tasted! We took the free shuttle into Willemstad one day which was great! There is also a free shuttle to the grocery store. One thing I would suggest is putting a convience store on the property as there is nothing within walking distance to pick up snacks, essentials, etc. Overall it is a beautiful resort. If you like quiet and relaxing this is the place for you! I would definitely recommend the Acoya and I will be returning!!! 😎

"Acoya for Average"

   17-02-2017
The positives - secluded and quiet...that's it. Service is poor (1) two times I had to walk to the reception building to ask for towels and TP (they take the used towels but didn't replace them with clean towels; (2) beds were made but no cleaning; (3) a broken dishwasher that they said had to be replaced but never happened; (4) no wait staff at the pool area and bar; and (5) long waits at the front desk. Other things to keep in mind; (1) we were in a 3 bedroom villa for 6 people - we would lose hot warm in the middle of the first shower - all others had to settle for a cold shower ; (2) not close to any beach; and (3) not close to town for dining and entertainment. Acoya offers a shuttle service but requires a long wait.
