"Another Ham and Eggers Review.....The Real Story!!!"

   26-02-2017
This will be long, I apologize. Let me preface by saying I am a hard working guy that works hard to pay for vacations such as these. I can't go on a whim so I research to try and find the best place for my family. If you are a "The pleats in my Egyptian cotton sheets are not right" stop reading now. We went with two families. 4 adults, 4 kids ages 10, 12, 13 and 14. THE AIRPORT This was a snap. You clear customs and are immediately taken to the Sandals waiting room. It is a nice place that smells like lemongrass and has wine, beer and pop. Just an FYI the customs sheet says only black and blue ink. BELIEVE THEM. I did mine in green and got sent away to do new ones. (I got the stink eye from the wife because she told me it was not gonna fly). THE BUS RIDE I don't know why people complain about this. Nearly every review says it will take 2 hours. Despite what ANYONE says, it will take 2 hours. PLAN AHEAD. We caught a direct flight because of this. Even so, we still did not get to the resort until around 6 PM. This ties into your time there. Understand that this will eat up almost 2 days of your vacation travelling. Don't let this be a surprise to you. CHECK IN I have seen some negative reviews about how impersonal this was because they hand you an Ipad and sit you down. We got a concierge level room and were greeted at the bus. We swiped a credit card and were IMMEDIATELY taken to our room where we finished the rest of the process. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND a concierge room. It really wasn't that big of a difference in the overall price and it has many perks that I will touch on. THE ROOM This will probably be my favorite topic. We got room 2114 in the Greek Village. It was an oceanfront Concierge Walkout. IT WAS SPECTACULAR!!! I counted one day and it was 31 steps from my sliding door to the water. It was close to three different bars, Neptunes Restaurant and the Concierge Office. The view was second to none and the room was large and comfy. I NEVER had an issue with anything not working or not cleaned properly. It had a large king bed with a day bed with a trundle which was perfect to separate my 12 and 14 year old son and daughter. The last night we were there (Friday) they had a beach party with a buffet. It was right outside our room. We grabbed some food and sat at the table on our patio and ate. We had servers coming to our patio to get us drinks. It was a magical night. Be advised that this block of rooms in ocean front and not near the main pool. If you are a main pool person know that you will have to take the stairs or elevator up 4 levels to get there. In my humble opinion these rooms are the best on property. THE BEACH I cannot get over how many reviews where people Bi#$H about the size of the beach. Did they not read any other reviews before booking? This is a smaller beach but it was fantastic. It never seemed crowded. I will say this. Whether it is the beach or the pool, chairs get "claimed" early. It's a fact so expect it. I just played the game and woke up early and grabbed a few. This was consistent throughout so expect it. THE SERVICE This was second to none. Rarely did you encounter an employee who would not greet you. Everyone seemed to be happy and courteous. Some more than others but the service was always outstanding. THE BARS We went to the Piano Bar a few times. Only one time was someone actually playing the piano. It was a nice space with comfy chairs and great drinks. The beach bar was spectacular. It was literally a service counter but the girls there were cordial and quick with a drink. Plus it was 40 yards from my room which was nice. The OPA Bar was my favorite. It is up from the pier near the diving hut. ANABY was a spectacular bartender. We ended nearly every night up there. It was very chill. Never crowded. You could sit outside and listen to the surf. She often had our Crown and Waters in front of us before we even ordered them. Kudos to her. The main bar was nice. I spent some time there during the day. Nothing spectacular but solid service with friendly people. The swim up bar was rather pokey with their service but you never waited very long. THE RESTAURANTS Neptunes was by far our favorite. Their seafood bisque was the best I've ever had. Great food out over the water. It was a very solid restaurant. The Venetian we went to one night. It was OK. Food was good not great. The main buffet was good but go in knowing this. If you have been to a RIU or even a Sandals that had a big sprawling buffet, DON"T EXPECT this here. It is a smaller buffet is size than any all inclusive I have been to. That being said it was like any buffet I have been to in which some food was excellent, some was not. Find what you like and stick with it. We never ate at the French place. THE BBQ was a great lunch spot but a bit slow. The Pizza place was right there too. I had a Jerk Chicken pizza and it was fantastic. The Creperie was cool too and was a good place for a sweet treat. The beach buffet Friday night was spectacular. Don't miss that one. ACTIVITIES First off, if you have kids and have read any reviews you have probably read the name Rushane. Trust me. Find him the first day you are there and introduce your kids. It was the best thing we could have done. He is a great kid and keeps the teens and tweens very active while they are there. Thanks Rushane for a great week Delaney and Evan miss you already. We also golfed while we were there. I knew what we were getting into going there so I didn't bring my clubs. On the website it says you can rent clubs and it includes balls. This is not true. You can rent clubs and they give you a sleeve of balls. I looked on my receipt to find they jammed me 15 bucks for a crappy sleeve of Taylormade Balls. Bring a sleeve with you to save some cash. The clubs were decent. Taylormade Speed Blades. Our caddy Dennis was awesome. He knew the course inside and out. For a reference we paid for the caddy, a cart, rental clubs and balls and it 94 bucks. Course is up in hills so don't expect ocean side holes. It was a very nice course but not a stellar course. But hey, you are golfing in Jamaica in February. CATAMARAN TO FALLS This was a good trip. Huge Catamaran...we had about 90 people on board. They take you snorkeling first they you go to Dunns River. If you have not done this it is a great excursion. Falls are pretty cool and both my kids went up without any problems. The ride back was nice. Rum punch and drinks and a variety of snacks. DOLPHIN COVE I did not go but both wives and all kids went and said it was awesome and worth every penny they spent. We adults went to Sandals one night for dinner at KIMONO's which was very good. Be advised though that you can use all Sandals stuff but they charged us 60 bucks cab ride to get there and back. There is no shuttle between the properties. CONCIERGE They do a great job. They lost our reservation at Kimono's but our lovely lady walked down to the beach to find us to tell us that she had fixed it. Anything you want it seems they can do within reason. A FEW TIPS Understand that everything that is done down there is on Jamaica time. The No Problem Mon attitude is abundant. That being said if you have an 8 PM dinner reservation and are steaming that you have not been sat by 8:10...No Problem. Relax you are in Jamaica. We found this several time and just rolled with it. BOOK EVERYTHING THE NIGHT YOU GET THERE If you have a concierge level room you can get reservations at any restaurants. That being said they only block a certain number so book early. Also, the free catamaran trip when you book is offered to pretty much anyone who booked so book that in advance as well. You will thank me for this one. THIS IS A SMALL RESORT At capacity it was only 700 guests. This is a smaller property on a hill so it is tiered. It never seemed crowded and the layout was perfect. If you want a massive sprawling property than this is not the place for you. I have seen people complain about the cleanliness and upkeep of this resort. They clearly have to be people that you cannot please. Workers were tirelessly painting and cleaning and improving the property. People have said it was "dated". It has been updated and short of tearing down and building new I am not sure what they want. Some complained about the WIFI but we never had one issue with it. I'm sure I'm missing something but this is long enough. Bottom line is we have been many places. Many all inclusives, cruises and other destinations. This ranks right up there with my favorite of all the resorts I have been to. I am seriously considering going back next year. I would be happy to answer any questions. Just shoot me an email. Don't hesitate. Book this. You won't be disappointed.

"Awesome place and people!"

We have been going to Sandals/Beaches features for many years... I have to say this was one of our most enjoyable trips. We all go on vacation to relax, reconnect and have a great time but the biggest difference is the people who work here. They truly enjoy their jobs and are very professional at it. We especially had an awesome time with the Entertainment department. It was such a blast with Roshane, Ashly and Rushan! They got my daughter to come out of her shell!!! She sang, played the piano, danced and more... we couldn't even believe what we were seeing. By the end of the trip we could truly say we had become really good friends. My 12 year old daughter was so sad to leave them. What was very touching was that they took their own personal time to come by in the morning. Which truly shows that we have formed a very special bond. As for the food, all the restaurants were DELICIOUS we did not have any complaints. There are so many great activities to do. Yogi was a great scuba instructor for my daughter with his experience and encouragement. Drinks were never faraway especially at the pool where Shanany was our server! We will definitely be back!

"Great trip, besides the food poisoning"

   26-02-2017
We got home last night from our week long family vacation during Presidents week. I was with my husband and two teenage daughters (13 and 16). The kids and I had a wonderful time. We love all inclusive resorts and this one was great because of the staff, the plethora of activities (especially SCUBA) and the wonderful walk out beachfront room we had in the Greek section. My husband is not a fan of big resorts, but he was agreeable about it because he knows how much the rest of us love it and he had a book to work on. It worked out well, until the last day when the food poisoning hit my 13 year old daughter. She was the only one of us to eat at the beach party. She had a hamburger and mac and cheese. I think it was probably the hamburger. Anyhow, I don't need to give the details of her sickness. You know what happens. If it was not for this sickness, I would have given the resort a rating of four, not three. I loved the location of our room (right at the beach). I also loved the design which was inspired by Santorini (perhaps my favorite place on earth). The best part of this place is the phenomenally friendly staff. I want to give a shout out to my favorite people there who really made a difference in my trip. In reception, Dannesia. In the dive shop, Kristy. On the dive boat, Roger and Wayne. Patrick, head of the watersports area was fantastic when I had a problem. Aldane, from the restaurant staff and Romaine, the lifeguard should all be commended for going above and beyond in a friendly, helpful way which made our trip great. What a fantastic staff. We got the premium wifi for $80 for the week. It worked very well most of the time. I recommend getting this if you really care about reliable wifi. I agree that it is a bit obnoxious to have a "premium" wifi when the regular, free wifi should work like premium, but this is one of those nuisance charges of which there were almost no others. Scuba was an included activity and they did not add charges for equipment. The only essential to me which was not included was a wetsuit. Not everyone uses a wetsuit and it was only $10 per day, so I felt it was fine. If you are certified and have been on a dive in the last two years, scuba is included. Another nice inclusion which we did not take advantage of is golfing. Caddy fees and golf cart fees would apply if you want this, but most places would charge greens fees. We enjoyed the banana boating, sailing and stand up paddleboarding. Also, the water slides were nice. The pools are not heated and felt cold at first, but not bad once you warmed up. The hot tub was nice and big and perfect temperature. The food was good except for the one food poisoning incident. We liked the variety of evening restaurants. Neptunes was the slam dunk winner in our opinion. Some of the resort definitely needs updating renovations. I was surprised that one of the most needy areas was the front reception. You would have thought that they know that first impressions really matter. My first impression of the resort was concern because of this. The stairways down to the Greek section near the spa and French restaurant really need new tiling. And I think that replacing the menus and reupholstering the chairs in the Italian restaurant would make a big difference, but this is just my opinion. It does not change all the other great stuff about the place. Because we stayed down by the beach, we didn't spend too much time in these sections that needed work. I might have been unhappy if I stayed in the Carribean section of the resort. Our room 2107 was great. The one thing I would have changed is the bathroom ventilation fan. It was not nearly powerful enough. The bathroom was always wet and this was somewhat annoying. We used a huge number of towels because nothing would dry in the room. I think this should be fixed. Overall, a very nice trip minus the food poisoning which is not minor.

"Great family resort!"

   26-02-2017
This resort keeps your kids busy. There is the ocean with all the water sports like sailing, kayaking, windsurfing, paddle boarding, banana boat etc. The Water park has lots of water slides of various heights for all ages. There is tennis, basketball, and many other land activities. Also for indoor activities, there is the Xbox lounge and Trench Town for the kids. The staff are fantastic! I especially want to mention Mark at the Beach. He went above and beyond to make sure that my son could participate in as much as possible as he had a broken leg. There are a lot of steps at this resort. They were kind enough to lend us a wheelchair to get around. A few of the restaurants are not wheelchair accessible but the staff actually picked up my son in the wheelchair and carried him up the steps. Our room in the Greek Village was very nice and the walls were sound proof. We had a baby next door and we never heard him! The food was good. Our favourite restaurant was Neptune. Lounges at the beach and pool were sometimes a challenge to get as people saved them with towels and then never showed up. We took "saved" seats a couple of times and no one ever showed up. The drive to the resort from Montego Bay Airport was 2 hours. Overall I would say that this resort is excellent for kids.

"Excellent"

Had an excellent time, hotel is beautiful and rooms are really nice. The staff is outstanding, we felt safe the whole time and they go out of their way to help. They have plenty of entertainment for all ages
