"Like stepping back in time"

The hour and a half drive from the Montego Bay airport created a sense of anticipation upon arriving at the Jamaica Inn. We were impressed with the warmth and hospitality immediately, as the staff of the open air front desk and one of the owners greeted us upon arrival. The veranda of our deluxe suite became our favorite spot for the week, followed closely by a lounge chair under a thatch-roofed shade stand on the beach. This vacation spot is where you go to RELAX. No clocks, televisions or radios blaring anywhere on the property (yes, there is wifi). Bring some good books and unplug for a few days. Other than dressing for dinner, guests have no other responsibilities - the friendly, porofessional staff takes care of everything at the Jamaica Inn.

"Fabulous place to relax "

   15-02-2018
My husband and I enjoyed a wonderfully relaxing holiday at this charming beachfront hotel. We were lucky to stay in the Premier Verandah rooms right on the beach where we could have breakfast lunch and dinner and lounge around listening to the sound of the waves crashing in. Fabulous. Our beach beds were very comfortable and quite private - lots of space between us and the other guests. The staff at the hotel were fabulous and all made us feel very welcome. Patrice, Stretch and Shirlene were particularly helpful and delivered the very best service with a smile and a sense of humour too - much needed after our luggage was lost and delivered 24 hours later. Luckily for us there was an on site gift shop where we could buy beachwear for the next day. Phew. If you're looking to go somewhere really lively in the evening, this isn't the place for you. Dinner was served under the stars and varied each evening. All great. The resident band were ok but most suited to guests aged 60 plus. We've been to other quiet luxury hotels across the Caribbean where we've been spoilt by the very best musicians where people have stayed up until midnight at least. At 10 it was all but over. Our only real disappointment but then we also understand that many people had chosen this hotel for its serenity and no doubt the guests did want to retire to their relaxing verandahs later on. You can of course leave the hotel and we had a couple of great nights out at Ocean 11 a local club 10 minutes away where we met quite a few delightful local people who made us feel very welcome. We didn't want to travel half way across the world just for the beach, hotel and great food - we really wanted to feel the rhythm and the beat of Jamaica and Ocean 11 ticked the box here. In summary, fabulous hotel, gorgeous beach, the very best staff and very peaceful.

"Every Element is Exceptional at Jamaica Inn"

   14-02-2018
This was a our second visit to Jamaica Inn, this time for five nights at the end of January. All of the wonderful things that I noted in my Trip Advisor review from last year are still true. I'll try in this review to mention a few new items and updates. We once again asked Jamaica Inn to arrange Club Mobay and our driver from the airport to JI. Our Club Mobay guide found our driver for us. We had heard about the military checkpoints prior to visiting Jamaica. We did, indeed, encounter a checkpoint about midway between Montego Bay and Ocho Rios. Although we were not stopped, it did slow us down by at least a half hour. All of the locals we talked to about the checkpoints were glad that they were instituted. But our drive was a solid two hours from the airport to JI. We were checked in quickly and given room 52 (Superior Balcony Suite) this year. This is the least expensive room category on the property. We love the second floor view and the balcony is still to die for. I won't spend a lot of time on the room as I described it in my last review and I've posted photos. But I will admit to a slight bit of jealousy when our "neighbor" was upgraded to a bungalow on the day we were leaving. Although I enjoyed our room, I would love to be able to experience the bungalows or cottages at some point (most likely if we return in the off season). There was a coffee maker in our room, along with a bag of fresh coffee. I don't know if they remembered this from our request last year, or if they now provide coffee makers in each room, but we truly appreciated the full bag of coffee. We did the all inclusive option again this year. I crunched the numbers hard and figured that at most we would save about a $100 over the course of five days if we did not do the AI. There is a grocery store nearby, and we did stock up on a few items for the mini fridge in our room. For the first time, we had breakfast delivered by room service (there is a $5 fee for this, well worth it). We did this four times, and each time our meal was delivered within 1/2 hour, hot, fresh, and tasty. And they don't just slap a tray on the table; they set the table with fine linen, including linen napkins and fine silver. What a way to start the day. The omelettes, eggs Benedict, salmon eggs Benedict, corned beef hash, French toast - everything was delicious. Regarding the food in general, I don't understand some of the complaints I see in the reviews about the food. The dinner menu changes every night. There are several entrees to choose from. You don't have to eat at the restaurant if you don't like the menu choices for that night. Even if you do the AI option, they give you the choice to eat off site at several nearby restaurants. Of particular note, the lobster tails were cooked to perfection. We ordered lunch on the beach, which is delivered at no extra charge. That is the true definition of being spoiled and loving it. We were so excited to take part in the baby turtle release on the JI beach. The guide explained that the people play a role in scaring away the birds who might otherwise eat the turtles as they make their way to the sea. The whole experience was a highlight of our trip. We used the gym every morning, and I can happily report that all of the equipment was in excellent condition. I used the elliptical every day, and it was in great shape. The weight equipment was also much appreciated. My husband enjoyed following the jogging trail outside the property. I was given a spa credit, so I eagerly booked a massage in their lovely spa. Nothing quite compares to getting a massage outside in a hut on a cliff and being lulled by crashing waves below. We were able to do the beach party this year since our stay included a Tuesday night. I've been to a lot of beach parties, and JI does it better than any other resort that I've been to. There was a complimentary managers cocktail party before the beach party. The food was served buffet style, but ALL of it was delicious. We especially appreciated that there were numerous tables for two available, which made for a romantic dinner with our toes in the sand. We enjoyed sitting by the beach bonfire after our meal. The weather was unusually rainy and windy during our stay, which made for rough waves and low visibility for snorkeling. We did manage to snorkel one day off the beach. We even saw a lionfish. We visited another resort in Ocho Rios after our stay at JI. I don't know how JI manages to have such a wonderful beach, but going to another resort reminded me of how spectacular the beach is at JI, including the soft, sandy bottom in the water. At our second resort, my husband badly stubbed his toe on a huge rock in the water. No big rocks in the water at JI. Of course, all of the staff are wonderful at JI. We enjoyed talking with Peter several times. He truly cares about his guests. I also particularly love Patrice in bar service. Sherene remembered us from last year and was a joy to talk to. Housekeeping was fantastic, including the turndown service at night. It seems silly to mention, but it is true that the other guests we encountered were all wonderful. They get such a marvelous cross section of guests from around the world. If you are looking for a relaxing, casual but refined resort, look no further.

"Perfection in paradise"

What a fabulous property. This was our first trip here but it will not be our last. The room we were in had a 180 degree view of the beach and the water and a large balcony with refrigerator and seating for six. This is a sixty year old property that remains immaculate, the rooms, common areas and beach are well cared for and you have a choice of the main building or cottages and beach front rooms that you can walk out of to the beach. Service is prompt and each server introduces themself and remembers your name. Food is wonderful and you have the option of dining off property. We quickly decided to stay on property and were glad we did. Many guests have been coming for thirty years or more and this contributes to a family atmosphere. Do not miss this experience, it is unique and hard to find in this fast paced world. .

"" As Time Goes By ...""

Years ago a friend mentioned the Jamaica Inn was a "nice little place". And so it is. Think Noel Coward, Walter Pidgeon, Cary Grant. "The Thin Man" movies. A (good) throwback to the 50's and sophisticated black and white. We were greeted by one of the owners in casual attire with dog by his side. Adequate comfortable room with a marvelous solid balcony - actually like a another small room with three walls and a roof. Like a rich uncle's estate - or his club. Second floor vista was perfect overlooking a pool , the well groomed croquet court and nice beach. Postcard stuff. We asked - and immediately received - a floor lamp with bright bulb for the veranda to read in early evening. The occasional mosquito was not an issue since the "burning coil" keep them away. There was also a small gentle repellent spray bottle on the dresser for occasional use. We never touched the AC. Wanted to hear the surf all day and night. Occasional used the ceiling fan. The dining was elegant. Breakfast at sea's edge most mornings unless rain. Lunch on the beach served via tray, linen napkin, silverware etc. Ever present attendants were always eager to serve a beverage from the beach bar, even if a glass of water. Real glass! All smiles. Dinner was elegant, including the weekly "grand buffet". Many nights though we were not very hungry after little sandwiches at tea (4pm, casual, and /or the nightly cocktail party hor dourves (7 - 8pm) is a little later than we are used to but a fun mixer of guests chatting, reminded me of Curtain Bluff. A fabulous option is the "all day menu" available 10a to 10 p via room service or right at our dinner table. Class act for light appetite (or budget minded. We opted out of any food plan. Would recommend to most adults, especially well traveled ones who just want to kick back and enjoy a club like atmosphere to relax at a slow place. No discos, not Sandels nor is it meant to be. Definitely have reservations arrange "club mo bay" service at airport and agree to the private driver option. International crowd, somewhat older (like us :)
