Over Jamaica Inn

"A little bit pf paradise"

We visited for the first time in March and Jamaica Inn has become our all time favourite hotel. We can't wait to go back. From Shadow IV(the hotel's black labrador) to the owners, brothers Peter and Eric, we were met by smiles from all quarters and a genuine desire to make our holiday special. We are pleased to be able to say that objective was fully met. The beach and grounds are beautiful and spacious, particularly considering the relatively small number of rooms. This affords a sense of privacy and intimacy wherever you choose to relax. Our room in the beach wing had a superb terrace, very big and nicely furnished with a stunning view of the bay. A great location on which to take breakfast and you can step straight from onto the beach. Relaxation comes so easily here that you never feel guilty that you should be doing something, though if you want you can snorkel, canoe, sail and paddle board. On arrival we were met with the phrase "welcome home". By the end of our stay we knew exactly what this meant. It really is a dream home from home!

"Totally relaxing massage and beach"

We did the Ocean Bliss Couples massage in a bungalow that overlooks the ocean and sits on a cliff. It not only was a great value, but was extremely good. My husband said the best he ever had. Sharlene and Tamara were our therapists. Afterwards, we went to the private beach for a dip in the ocean. The property was so quiet and not like other large corporate resorts with loud music and too many people. Thankfully, there were not peddlers pushing their wares. The beach was beautiful and the staff were very friendly and helpful, we even met the owner. The water was refreshing although the snorkeling was not as good as the other islands we visited on our cruise. We may have to return for a longer stay!

"Not far fom ideal!"

We chose this property for our Jamaican gateway based on TA reviews and we were not disappointed. What a lovely place! The garden / beack area is very well kept, with numerous staff members cleaning daily fallen leaves and taking care of plats and trees. The buildings have a colonial, upscale feel, are tastefully decorated and well maintained. The beds on the beach are spread apart so that you never feel it is cramped (although the beach area is not very big), and above all we appreciated the quiet, calm atmosphere at almost every moment of the day. Rooms dont have TVs and there is, most of the time, no sound other than the waves gently crashing on the beach nearby, which our room was overlooking. If what you are looking for it getting away from it all, the Jamaica Inn definitely delivers, and we found ourselves imagining the famous previous guests (Ian Flemming, Winston Churchill) enjoying a tea on the terrace. What made our treat even more special is the incredible attention we got from most of the staff - a special thank you to Kirk for his cool ways and to Francois for the breakfast chats, you guys really made us feel cared for! The manager also welcomed us at the beginning of our stay, and one of the owners would regularly inquire how we were doing. A few minor downsides: we found the daily menu a bit limited after a week's stay, while the dinner was on the expensive side considering the food we were served (but then again the setting was exquisite, with dinners served on the central terrace in the soft air of the night). The nightly live music was nice at first, but the band needs to renew their playlist a bit (we heard No woman no cry at least 3 times over the duration of our stay - what about throwing in some Burning Spears, Israel Vibration, even Max Romeo to stay with the raggae vibe?!) The rooms are large, the beds are comfy, but since the window closing mechanism still leaves some fresh air come in at night, it also does not block noises from outside. One night we wanted to go to sleep earlier, and we had to wait for the live music to end, fortunately not too late (they would stop playing at about 10.30PM every night). A very minor annoyance anyway. Last small thing: the shower head is placed quite low, and although I am not a giant, I had to bend quite uncomfortably when taking a shower. That could be easily fixed. Overall, we had a fantastic, restful stay, and I would not hesitate to recommend the Jamaica Inn to anyone looking for a calm, peaceful, upscale gateway in Jamaica.

"A week in Paradise"

Whether you want a gorgeous uncrowded beach, beautiful grounds, a lovely room, staff so friendly you fall in love with them, fabulous food, or just a laid back, slightly European elegance, then the Jamaica Inn is where you should come. We stayed a week and will be back often. We were in the West wing with a room and balcony that was right over the water. So peaceful and serene. Steps out the front door to the 2 beach chairs we were in all week. Take the complimentary botanical tour of the grounds with Mr. Henry to see all the fabulous plants and flowers. He knows the name of hundreds and hundreds of them and their uses. Enjoy the music and dinner under the stars every night. The hotel is family owned (rare in this era) and the attention to detail and personal service shows.

"Close to perfection"

This is a wonderful place. Complete relaxation. Set out in private grounds with a lovely beach, and even a croquet lawn. Stall are friendly and helpful, and the owner is usually around to chew the fat through the day. Highlight of food for me was breakfast; freshly cooked to order, and the Jamaican option superb. Daytime menu a little limited, but hey, that's just whingeing. Very highly recommended.
