"The best hotel in entire Jamaica"

   03-01-2017
Having spent 12 days all over the island, I can confidently say this is the best hotel in Jamaica. The location is picture perfect, the staff is super friendly & the food is fabulous. The rooms are great (we stayed at Calabash sea cottage) with outdoor porch overlooking the sea. The hotel offers multiple excursions, the best being "shore picnic" - a day long excursion that takes you to a hidden beach where the crew cooks fresh meal. Swimming, exploring & snorkeling along with some great drinks makes it a perfect day - oh and we watched few dolphins on our way out. The return journey has a stop at the famous Pelican bar. The Spa is great too!! There are couple of great local dining spots nearby as well - Gee Wiz for amazing jamaican veg food & Frenchman's cove for seafood. Highly recommend!!

"Treasure Cot + Treasure Beach"

   01-01-2017
We just spent a wonderful holiday week in Treasure Cottage, a 3-BR house about a quarter mile from the main hotel property. The house itself - perched on a lovely position on Calabash Bay - has been recently renovated but retains all of its original and plentiful charm. It is truly delightful in every respect and I don't think you will find many places like this left in the Caribbean. There are lots of comfortable lounging spots in and around the cottage (especially the hammock that is perfectly shaded by two stunning palm trees) and when you're ready to swim - wow - the beach is amazing. Beautiful water, beautiful waves. We took several boat trips with Captain Joseph. All highly recommended, particularly the Black River trip. It's beautiful and the crabs at Sister Lou's are off the charts. And of course you'll go to the Pelican Bar - what an experience! The staff at Jakes and in our cottage were gracious and accommodating. I enjoyed two spa treatments and loved the yoga classes. The vibe at the hotel is stylish but low key - even during the holiday week, it felt relaxed and easy. Though the place did go all out for New Year's Eve - a huge, loud bash, very festive and well attended by guests and locals alike. I am giving Jakes 5* because it's a special place in a stunning, unspoiled part of Jamaica (and I definitely hope to return). But I want to make clear it wasn't perfect. The main area for improvement is the food. We ate several meals at Jakes but none of them was as good as I would have hoped (and Jack Sprat was not good at all). Likewise, although we had a cook at our cottage and although Jakes sent us fabulous menu options in advance, our meals were limited because we simply didn't have access to many good ingredients. For example, we did a big shop in the town of Black River (at the supermarket and at the fruit/veg market), but there was no fresh fish, no fresh meat, slim pickings of frozen meat (chicken livers!) and even the fruits and vegetables were scarce. Did we starve? Absolutely not. But I did spend much of the week feeling frustrated that we didn't get any of those delicious meals on the menu and wondering how we could have been better organized on the food front. All that said, if you are considering a visit to Jakes and Treasure Beach, you absolutely should go. In five years, it will have been discovered by refugees from Tulum and you will be terribly sad you missed one of the most relaxing, beautiful vacations of your life.

"Fabulous - every bit as good as all the other fab reviews!"

We have just spent 6 days at Jakes with our teenage daughters. It really is a beautiful, unspoilt and perfect as I had hoped and dreamt it would be. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The spa was heavenly. Staying in a cottage was a perfect mixture of self catering ability and privacy but all the amenities of a hotel on hand too. I am saving already for another trip.

"A Really Nice Week"

   28-12-2016
I would give this place 5 stars if it weren't so difficult to get there from the Montego Bay airport. However Darin did a fine job getting us there and back. Our accommodations were great, the food was great, the place itself was really nice, but the best part was the staff--a friendlier and more competent group does not exist. Took a voyage with Captain Joseph to a beach for lunch, then the mongroves. Though the ride back was rough, it was worth it. It was a really nice week.

"Romantic off the grid"

   27-12-2016
I found this gem while googling for a boutique hotel and saying we lucked out was an understatement. We had a cute little one bedroom on the ocean. We didn't see many tourist which is always our goal while traveling. I loved all the unique and colorful details. The staff was so friendly and knew our names. The price was great I loved the food. I saw some complaints on price but were regular travelers this was a deal. Jamaica is expensive jakes was not. I hope to return!
