"Heaven on Earth..."

The service we experienced at Jake's was incredible. From the moment I arrived, I felt so very well take care of--everyone was fantastic, but there were some special folks! Lloyd, our driver, greeted us at the airport and drove us throughout the week to ANY restaurant and attraction we wanted to visit all the while offering lessons on Jamaican history and what it was like to grow up on the island. Yvonne, manager, checked on us when we were a bit late, visited our table often to make sure we were satisfied and found us lobster one night for dinner when we had a craving. Trudy, our waitress and all around cruise director constantly smiled, hugged and made sure we were well-fed and happy. Even one of the groundskeepers, Darron, befriended us and took the time to show and teach us about Akee. Our room was so much more than we expected--full of charm and bright colors. We stayed in Seahorse Up and just loved it--especially the little deck where we could sit and have coffee in the morning. Some nights, if the wind was strong, it could be noisy due to the blowing branches but that just added to the island feel. Treasure Beach is absolutely a hidden Jamaican gem--it is certainly not easy to get there as it is a long and curvy ride from the airport; but once there you feel so peaceful and relaxed and pleasantly disconnected from the world. The setting at Jake's is absolutely special with the pool and the beach and the ocean all close together. The most challenging thing about Jake's and Treasure Beach is the travel getting there. Once you have arrived, it is like heaven on earth.

"Do yourself a favor and stay here!"

Where to begin.... my husband and I just returned from staying one week at The Pelican villa and it was amazing!!! We had our own private Jamaican paradise for a whole week. Jennifer and Terri took such great care of us as soon as we arrived. Jennifer cooked us delicious meals everyday. On our last night, my husband assisted her with dinner and it's an experience he'll never forget. Terri made sure all of our needs were met each day and took us out on his boat to a private island and the Pelican Bar for a day excursion. We saw so many dolphins that day! We also highly recommend doing the farm to table dinner if you're staying during the time they are hosting one. The whole experience was amazing! At that dinner we met the owners of Jakes and they are splendid souls to say the least. If you want to avoid tourist traps, eat traditional Jamaican food and be surrounded by the friendliest people on earth, stay at Jakes!!!

"The moments that take our breath away!"

There is a saying the goes something like this, "life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away", this to me is Jakes. As much as Jakes is immersed in the culture of Treasure Beach, the area of St. Elizabeth, that it is located in, so too is Treasure Beach and the community in Jakes. Both go hand in hand. When we visited Jakes we felt we had stepped back in time, where a walk down the road was a "good morning" to everyone that passed you by. Jakes is not a family business, Jakes is loved and coddled by a family that has raised it, over many decades, from the dark sands of Treasure Beach and who have through the years shared their love and eternal optimistic vision for Treasure Beach and Old Wharf areas with anyone who asks the right questions. For me it's a place of solace. far from the madden crowd I call life. Jakes offers several room categories from garden to oceanfront and therefore will fit any budget. They even manage several villas all within close proximity to Jakes. In the hotel complex there are about 30 rooms. They are very distinctive one from another, each touched by the harmonious design sense of the matriarch Sally Henzell. Rustic elegance, breath taking comfort. The food and service are bar none They serve a variety of food choices during breakfast, lunch and dinner. If you want a change of surroundings, you can journey to Jack Sprat next door for a whole new array of menu items. During our visit we were able to see the Community Sports Complex, Breds, that serves the community specifically and the parish at large. Jason Henzell, one of the owners has worked tirelessly to open up the best kept secrets of Treasure Beach to the discerning traveler. Jakes hosts Yoga and Literacy retreats as well as a Triathlon, promotes Community Based Tourism, Farm to Table Dining experiences and encourages all community member, domestic or foreign to volunteer. If you are looking for a "break" and want to be assured that there are still places where people are nice to you because you are a person, where lazy, hazy days still exist; where carefree could be a way of life, this may be the place for you.

"The Amazing Jake's Hotel"

I have been visiting Jamaica for 7 years now and the ONLY reason I go is to visit and stay at the incredible Jake's Hotel and Villas, There is nothing you could compare it to. Jakes is a class act. Service is impeccable, staff is so warm and Jake's in Treasure Beach has become my only Jamaican destination. This is truly my home away from home.

"Get away from the mainstream. Definitely place to relax.Disconnect and enjoy. Go to Jakes."

Jake's Hotel is located on southern coast of Jamaica in Treasure Beach. Treasure Beach is a decent drive from the tourist epicenters of Jamaica and this can definitely be the best part of your stay. Treasure Beach is an area devoted heavily to community tourism as they do their best to avoid excess waste, and they make efforts to employ, educate, and train locals from Treasure Beach to work in the area. First off, if you are thinking about going to Jake's Hotel then I cannot recommend enough that you arrange your transport through Jake's Hotel. When we arrived in Montego Bay our wonderful driver Darin was waiting for us. Darin was a great driver and a great host for the 2.5 hour journey. The journey will take you across a couple of mountain ranges, through many turns, and on a variety of different roads. The roads vary in condition from two lane highway to a road that is barely passable by a single vehicle. We were so grateful to have Darin driving us as he kept the journey enjoyable by telling us about Jamaica, about Treasure Beach, and about the other towns that we passed through on the way. This is before mentioning the fact that Darin might as well be the mayor of Treasure Beach considering all of the many things he was involved in there in the city. In just the things that I can remember, he is on a local school board, and he planned, developed, and oversees a local sports park that has attracted not only Jamaican celebrity support, but also worldwide celebrities such as Venus and Serena Williams. I can attest that Darin made the journey faster, smoother, and more enjoyable than I could have imagined otherwise. Also, if you are hungry on your Journey then just let Darin know and he will make sure to stop so that you can get some great, authentic jerk chicken. Please use Jake's transport and do not hesitate to ask for Darin as they welcome requests. Once you arrive at Jake's you will immediately feel the intimacy, closeness, and non-corporate feel of the resort. Jake's is not your normal all-inclusive resort of glutton and excess, but they very much make up for it with quality, care, and thoughtful inclusions. To begin with, Jake's includes a variety of room types such as single rooms or full villas. We rented a single room with a garden view but with this please remember there is nowhere at Jakes that is more than about 75 feet from the ocean. The resort campus is small, intimate, and welcoming. You will begin to notice familiar faces, and they will quickly begin to recognize you. The room was not overly luxurious but it also provided almost anything and everything that we could need. The room was clean, and there are a variety of options for controlling temperature, humidity, and light. The room is clean and designed make you comfortable while you are there but not too much so to make you want to be on the coast of Jamaica and spend the whole day in your room. There was not a TV in the room and the WIFI signal was not the strongest, but those things were available within the resort if that was really needed. This is a place to come and be unplugged, but rest assured you do not have to throw away the cord if you want to connect on occasion. Important to remember that Jake's is not all-inclusive so you will be paying for your food, but take comfort in knowing that the prices are all quite reasonable. Onsite there are a couple of food options, including eating there at Jake's or also going to a connected bar called Jack Sprat. Both provided wonderful meals that you ate while overlooking the westward facing ocean...so sunset was unbelievable. All of the meals we ate were delicious, though I must specifically recommend the jerk chicken pizza at Jack Sprat. We ordered that pizza a couple of times and it was quite delicious on both occasions. As far as activities and excursions, there are a good variety of things to do and see, or you will have great opportunity to do nothing. We visited the Pelican Bar which is a small bar located about 20 minutes by boat that is about 3/4 of a mile from land. The bar is built on a sand bar and is a really cool and scenic place to visit. The trip was about $80 round trip from Jake's for two people. There are many other activities in the area and guests are lucky to have the variety of beautiful landscapes and activities afforded by the southern coast of Jamaica. Overall, I would strongly recommend Jake's for a place to go and escape your normal life for a few days. Take a chance. Meet some new people. Meet some local people. Take a chance to relax and watch the sunset off of the dock, you will not regret the experience. As long as you know what Jake's is then there is little chance to be unhappy at Jake's. Enjoy. PS: Be sure to take bug spray. This is Jamaica so mosquitos are a real thing. Nothing new, just something to help be prepared. PSS: Jake's Resort was founded by Sally Henzell who is wife of famous director Perry Henzell. He directed a movie in the early 70s called "The Harder They Come" and you will see the influence throughout Jake's and if you happen to be there on a Thursday they will show the movie outside at Jack Sprat.
