"Great pool, great beach for the budget traveler"

   22-05-2018
I stayed here in May 2018. I've been visiting St. Pete for 25+ years, but this was my first stay here. I'll start with the bad, move to the good, then give you some money-saving tips. Bad: it's old, and the rooms are small, especially the bathrooms. I was in a room with a king bed, and space is definitely at a premium. I don't how old the building is, but I'm guessing at least 35-40 years, and while they try to keep it up (and they do well), it is old, and it shows. That said, it wasn't uncomfortable. But it could get tight, especially the bathrooms. Also, the furniture was minimal, and there wasn't (in my room anyway) enough room for two people to have comfortably sat down to eat. They could help some of this by mounting the TVs on the wall and putting in a small table. The cheap swiveling desk lamps used as nightlights were a very bachelor pad solution, but real bed lights would have been nice. I didn't eat in the restaurant or drink at the bar. I took one look at the prices (outrageous) and decided to go with other options (more on this below). If I owned the place, I'd seriously consider tearing it down and rebuilding. One thing I'd definitely do is tear down the pool kitchen and put the bar where the pool kitchen is to open up the view of the beach. The rooms are all direct entry from the outside, yet there is no safe in the rooms. They should put safes in each room. The good: the pool is HUGE, which is great. It's clean, the deck and chairs are clean, and there are a number of umbrellas, though my guess is that when they're full, they might need more (I went during a slow week, and it was pretty empty). The pool chairs appeared to be fairly new, which was nice. The beach is right there, and it's one of the better beaches in Florida (I've been to almost all of them). I do have one criticism, though: it costs $35/day to rent a beach cabana with two chairs, which is highway robbery. There should be a package that includes use of a cabana and chairs for some kind of a combination. They could also make some beach chairs available for guests to carry down and charge a small, refundable deposit. It's clean, and that was hard to miss. Also, the air conditioning was effective, and for me, that's a big deal. The room never got cold, but it stayed very comfortable, especially if you close the blinds during the hot part of the day. The fridge and two bottles of water a day were nice (no microwave, though). It's convenient to a lot of stuff if you take the time to look around. Upham Beach Park and it's grill are right up the beach, and eating breakfast on the beach is a real treat. They had a ton of outlets for charging stuff, which was great. Now for the money saving tips: DON'T EAT OR DRINK HERE! I didn't try the food, but the prices (which you can see at the front desk) are outrageous. There are two Publix grocery stores near by (one that you can walk to). Stock up on essentials there, including sunscreen, which is far cheaper than it will be anywhere else. If you have a car, there are any number of easily reachable restaurants: IHOP, the aforementioned Upham Beach Park eatery, it's sister location in Passe-A-Grille (I eat at both on a regular basis with family), Chik-Fil-A for the kids or a quick bite, a Longhorns a few miles away, Frog Pond (you'll be lucky to finish all they give you), Subway, etc. Likewise, if you want to save a fortune on booze, go to Publix and buy as much as you want for a fraction of the price. This is a decent, but not top of the line, hotel in a great location. They clearly want to keep it budget-friendly without busting their own budget. Would I stay there again? Probably. The pool is great, the beach is right there, it was clean and the A/C worked. I can't ask for a whole lot more, but if you're there and the weather goes south, you'll be cramped. Enjoy!

"Great place on the beach"

   22-05-2018
Loved my stay at PCI. The staff were wonderful - very friendly and welcoming. I had a garden view room with a king size bed. The room was very clean and my linens were refreshed every day. The grounds are so pretty, very nice pool and I enjoyed the Tiki Bar as well. You are right on a terrific beach as well. I could not have been happier with my stay. If I return to St. Pete Beach I would definitely book at the PCI again!

"Nicely done overall..."

   21-05-2018
The room was nicely redone, cute updates. Roomy enough for two by far. Tub was old with a slow drain, but not a problem. The amenities around the hotel were great, plenty to do. Great pool! On the long weekend we went it seems like it was a 20-30 year old kind of place, packed with younger adults partying. Did get a little rowdy, but the hotel security seemed to shut that down pretty immediately. Spot on the beach is great and within walking distance to just about anything you need-great restaurants, etc. Only complaint is the base for the king size bed is metal and sounds like you're getting off the Titanic every time you get up or move around.

"A surprise!"

   17-05-2018
We weren't really sure about this hotel, but didn't have much to choose from. Mother's Day was really busy in St Pete Beach! Checking in was still kinda iffy, but what a surprise! The rooms are fancy, but very comfortable. The bed was just like home! The staff at PCI were awesome, especially the seaside bar! Great pool and right on the beach. Loved it!

"Great Time Again"

   15-05-2018
Just got back from our semi annual visit to PCI. A lot of new staff and plenty of old friends. First Emily, thank you for the pre trip help in arranging all the rooms. Again as always spent most of the time at the beach bar and again the bar staff (Solomon, Sara, Andy, Woody, Justin, Nicole and Cole and Jon the hardest working bar back I have ever seen) treated our group with a lot of laughs and fantastic service all weekend. Adonis - thanks for keeping the bar open on Sunday. Without that I may have gotten some sleep. Looking forward to seeing all in October.
