"Horrible experience from the beginning. "
I have to second the opinion of the reviewer below me. Booked this hotel for the CHEST conference. I had made reservations under the group reservation and written out that we were arriving at approximately midnight on the 18th (coming in late the 17th) and would need two rooms. I called to confirm appx 1 week prior to arrival even though I did receive email confirmation. Thank goodness I did this. They had reserved one room only. The gentleman I spoke to upgraded us to a 2 bedroom suite that we were told had wonderful views (be advised at a premium price). Please see attached picture of my "premium view". I again told him we would be arriving late on the 17th (at approximately midnight. I didn't think anything of it when he had us checked in for the 18th at midnight. Long delays at the airport later we finally arrive at the hotel at 0300 on the morning of the 18th (conference starts at 0700). The lady at the front desk was nothing short of RUDE. I explained to her what had transpired when I spoke with the person taking my reservations. Told her I was happy to pay for that night for the room we had reserved. She told me it wasn't available but we could pay for one room that was available. I told her that it was not my mistake that caused this issue and I wasn't paying my suite price for a smaller room. Her response was "Oh yes you will pay". I have never been so upset (maybe it was because I had been up since 0600 or that her badge said her joy was to deal with people- not the truth). Told her I wanted to speak to the manager. Manager never came out but told her to comp the tiny corner room on the 2nd floor. We squeezed 4 people into this tiny room but were happy to get our suite. Definitely do not feel it was worth the price we paid. No washcloths in the room. No basics such as cotton balls, qtips, basic things like this that a place such as comfort inn or Hampton inn would have. The brochure that is provided tells about a $25 resort fee for water, phone calls, and gym usage. My water was not refreshed (see attached picture). Phone calls are not free (see attached picture). With the conference schedule I was not able to use resort amenities. I have not checked out yet so I am hoping those will not be charged. I also will be speaking about not holding conferences here. Prices are exorbitant for what you get (room, amenities, food). There was supposed to be food and drink service at the pool. The one day I snuck out of the conference early for the eclipse - I did not see but one person. He never came by to take my order. Super disappointed in this place. My husband and I were thinking to take the grand kids here if we liked it- and we certainly won't. We did have good experience at the blue zoo restaurant- the staff there were great and the Italian place at the swan. My husband golfed daily and was charged regular price for green fees even though they advertise that it's cheaper. We also paid $25 to self park which is not disclosed on the group booking site otherwise we would've gotten an uber from the airport to the hotel. To sum it up- worst conference hotel ever. I'm not even irritated by the constant construction, the elevator that didn't work, power outage, or the housekeeping carts parked outside our room all the time (the area they stored them in??). Customer service was subpar.
"We'll be back!!!"
The amenities at the resort is awesome! The location is fantastic with being in close proximity of the Swan and boardwalk - food and entertainment are limitless. Free boat and bus rides to the theme parks so driving was not necessary while at the resort.
The lobby and parts of the hotel are being renovated. When checking in I was told I was upgraded to a balcony which is fantastic because there aren't many at this hotel but they are quite small. Our room was located in the east tower but due to construction you had to take the west tower elevators...long way around, not too happy. While the east elevators where boarded up and closed off there was painting going on during the day by the very crowed west area. Not sure why this painting couldn't take place at night. Overall if you are looking to stay here to save money instead of staying at a Disney resort just be aware that there is a $25 nightly resort fee AND a $20 nightly parking fee.
"Better than expected"
We wanted to begin our Disney trip early, so we used SPG points for 1 night at Dolphin before checking into Grand Floridian. We weren't sure what to expect since we've only stayed at deluxe Disney properties, but overall we enjoyed our stay and would keep it in mind for the future. Not sure I could spend a whole week here, but it's a good option for Marriott/SPG members. Pros: Rooms appear newly renovated. Convenient walk to Beach, Yacht, and Boardwalk. Austin at the front desk was very helpful and able to provide an upgrade to water/fireworks view. Property was clean overall and construction in lobby was unnoticeable. The grounds were picturesque and the beach/pool areas reminded me of Polynesian. Good value for SPG points. Cons: Mainly cleanliness of the room. Fridge was not cleaned out and there was a hairband hanging on bathroom door that wasn't ours. Those should've been noticed. Room was also a little bit dusty. $20 self-parking fee seemed excessive. Walks to Epcot and Hollywood Studios were possible but felt long, especially in heat and humidity.
Large hotel but you wouldn't know it. Undergoing some renovation but they are dealing with it well and it never becomes obtrusive. Right in the middle of Disney but without a lot of the Disney baggage. Great ticket booking service for just about everything. Beach area and pool great for kids and gym open 24 hours great for jet lag.
