"A Great Place to Stay in Kona "
My husband and I just stayed at the Sheraton in Kona and really enjoyed ourselves at this hotel. The staff was friendly, the room was nice, the fitness room was well equipped, the views were fantastic and the pool and grounds were breathtaking. The resort fee plus self parking fees were a bit steep, but we got a free buffet breakfast with our stay that helped offset the cost. The restaurant Rays on the Bay was closed for renovations during our stay so we could not enjoy the viewing deck, but we did see the manta rays up close and personal on a snorkeling trip right in front of the hotel, which was fantastic.
"Very Nice, not Ultra Luxury"
My family enjoyed the Sheraton Kona at Keauhou Bay over a holiday weekend and enjoyed our time there. The breakfast buffet was satisfying, but not the highest of quality. The rooms were nice and fairly up to date, but I'll admit, until you get a feel for the resort layout, it's difficult to navigate. There just seems to be a lack of staircases in common sense areas ... and it wasn't just me in our group who thought the same. Pool side was very nice with fantastic service, a bit busy, and disappointed that the top cover of our Cabana (which costs extra) was torn and did not shade the sunlight. I'd certainly stay here again.
"Best Vacation Ever in Hawaii"
The Sheraton Resort was the best place I have ever stayed for Vaction. Was my first trip to Hawaii, how amazing it was. The people (Staff) were outstanding. Our Concierge (Gary Perreira) was by far the best I have ever seen. He not only took care of all our Excursions and Activities he went above and beyond. My wife got sun burned really bad one day and he found a product for us in the kitchen of the restaurant to help with the pain. We also formed a special relationship with him I feel will last a life time. The loaction of the resort is amazing. It's close to many of the beaches and shopping areas. If you stay there you will never forget it. It is family oriented and the pool is amazing for the kids and us adults. Thanks again for the most amazing week of my life. It was a bucket list item for me. Hope this helps you decide to stay there. With warm regards. Marshall & Julie Duplechin
"Beautiful views and Friendly hotel staff"
We stayed at the Sheraton Kona Resort during our trip to the Big Island. The hotel itself needs some updating...especially the bathrooms. The bathrooms are straight out of the 70's. That being said...the hotel is still pretty awesome. The hotel pool is fantastic, and the views are amazing. The grounds are beautiful too, and lovingly taken care of. The hotel staff members are all friendly and very helpful. They definitely resemble the true "Aloha Spirit" of Hawaii. The breakfast buffet needs a little help (the food was pretty bland), but the omelets are super yummy. We had a fabulous time...and would definitely come back to the hotel. Super shout out to the coffee ladies in the hotel that run the little coffee bar...100% Kona coffee. These ladies rock. At 6:00 am in the morning...they will hand you your latte with a smile and get you on your way to your Hawaii adventure.
I had read a lot of reviews on the hotel and wasn't sure what it would be like when we arrived. I am traveling with my 15 year old daughter and I am writing after only a day in so I will try to update further before we go. Overall I am currently quite pleased with everything and enjoying our stay. ARRIVAL - we came at night and it was pretty quiet. The gentlemen at the front desk was friendly, helpful and very personable. Everyone I have interacted with has been very nice and helpful. PARKING AND RESORT FEE- self parking is $15/night or $22/night for valet and there is a resort fee which I believe is $30/night. The resort fee covers basic internet, a trolley into town, access to a game room, lei making and I am sure some other things I haven't discovered yet. BREAKFAST - one of the areas that varied the most when I read reviews was related to the breakfast. I am pleased to report that they have one of the best breakfast spreads that I have had at a hotel. We are going to be here for a week and there is enough variety that we won't get tired of the offerings. There are ample vegetarian options for me as well as a lot of meat options for my daughter. The omelet station is operating and is exceptional since I was able to pick out the ingredients I wanted in the quantities I wanted. FRESH FRUIT! Waffles, oatmeal, scrambled eggs, pastries, bagels, eggs benedict, toast, croissants and on and on. Definitely a high point. ORIENTATION AND ACTIVITIES - 8 am each day they have a "Vacation Kick-Off" at the bar/restaurant next to the pool. The session is very imformative and helpful in getting oriented to the property and options. She walked through a variety of water, land and air tours that they could sign us up for. We are planning on doing a few this week. She also had fresh fruit and tasty treats. ADDITIONAL ONSITE ACTIVITIES FOR A FEE - Yoga, Lu'au, PADI scuba lesson, and guided scuba dive. ROOMS - The rooms are basic but roomy with a nice porch. The mini fridge in the room is a big plus which allows us to keep our water cool and keep perishable snacks as well. We have a "partial ocean view" which means just that. If having a full or direct ocean view is important than be sure to look at that option when booking. POOLS - There are 2 pools that are connected together that look nice. One of them has a water slide that kids will enjoy. LOCATION - We have a car so it is easy for us to get around as needed. The trolley which runs from 9am to 9pm would provide some mobility if you didn't have a car. A grocery store is a 5 minute drive as is a beach highly recommended for beginner snorkling.
