"Big hotel in great location"
Pros - lots to do in area, big resort, plenty of amenities and activities, good service, and they have the mantas! Marie at the Mantas by the Bay restaurant was so sweet. The food served was very fresh!!! Pool is great for all ages. The lanais for every room beat most hotels! Cons - the hotel is dated and is need of some small repairs here and there. For example, ladies bathroom near pool had some non working lights, one non working stall, and sinks that either ran normal or was like a waterfall. For five days, no one seemed interested in fixing these things and not for the sake of not knowing. Another big one is that it isn't green. I know most travelers don't care, but I do. Everything was disposable and not recycled (we found 2 recycle containers). The cups state they are recyclable or compostable but after further investigation, they all go right go to the trash. It wouldn't hurt to use reusable cups and get rid of straws. Even at the water stations, there is a sign telling you to use the disposable cups and not use your own bottles. I get they don't want to refill it often, but still. After all, this is Hawaii and everyone is supposed to care about plastics in the ocean. I did ask staff about green practices, pretty much the answer was if it in the recycle bin then yes, but all cups go to the trash. You can hear doors slam and toilets flush in rooms. The room is great, just bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper.
A nice hotel, the entry has a beautiful view. Our room had an ocean view which we paid extra for and it was worth it. The pools are amazing and clean. A couple of negatives the bathrooms are a little dated and the restaurant was below our room so all you heard outside was the clanking of silverware. Otherwise a great stay.
We were presented with shell leis and got a free tote bag on arrival which we haven’t before. We were also charged $15 for parking which was a surprise as parking was previously free. We love the pool - great for kids of all ages with water slides and a beach pool for toddlers. Our 2 year old was still able to use one of the water slides with adult help. Location is good if you have a car. Places are reasonably close by and plenty to explore. Aircon in room was super loud making it difficult to sleep. Rooms are getting a bit tired but still great place to visit.
"Paradise with our girls!"
We just stayed at the Sheraton after reading great reviews. We wanted a pool and slide for our three daughters, ages seven to twelve. We had the most amazing stay!! While at the pool in the afternoons, staff would walk around with complientary smoothies and popsicles. The slide was so much fun and the setting was spectacular. We would watch the Manta’s feed off the water at night froour room. The lei making class with Rolinda B. Was such a highlight, she taught us so much about the Hawaiian culture. They also offer ukulele classes, and other cultural classes daily. The hotel was a great location for a day trip to the volcano. We stayed up by Mauna Kei for five nights prior to coming to the Sheraton. It was so windy, we couldn’t even go into pool and definitely not the beach. I guess it’s far windier up that side of the island. We loved the Sheraton so very much, we’ve already looked into booking again for next year.
"Beautiful but lacking"
Grounds were beautiful and the staff were nice and helpful. Seeing the manta rays at night is truly exceptional. However, we had a toilet that didn’t work (which took a few hours to fix), house keeping forgot to give us towels for our room—which was an unpleasant surprise when I got out of the shower—it took them around 30 minutes to get to my room after calling, parking is expensive, and food and drinks at the restaurant (Rays on the Bay) were the worst we had our entire trip.
